How can I transfer files to a new catalog?

I use a PC, LIghtroom 6.2.1 and Windows 7.

Here's my question: I'm trying to import into a new catalog on an external drive again, bigger.  Catalog and current photo files are on my laptop.  I'm following the instructions below, which I think I've taken correctly from web sources and a book of Lightroom:

a.) I created a new catalog on my new external drive.

(b) I start to Lightroom with the new catalog and go to: file | Import from another catalog

(c.) I go to the catalog on my laptop and select it.  Lightroom is preparing to import by searching for duplicates, etc.

(d.) he then gives me an option to import.  There is no option to select a folder or folders to import.

e.) Lightroom matter to them all of the old catalog without folder structure.  Everything happens in a folder called "Photos".

f.) I find myself with the 'pictures' folder containing > 10 000 images.  Develop settings, etc., seem to be coming.

How can I do this by providing a file at a time to the new order and catalog?  As it is, all my folder structure is trashed.

What I am doing wrong?

Thanks for any help.

Ralph

OK, what you want to do is to merge multiple catalogs in one.

To maintain the folder structure as it is, you must manually copy the images to the new disk by copying the directory tree.

To merge files without others, select the images you want to transfer in the old catalog, "export as catalog" but do not include the "negative files.

Using the new catalogue, "the catalog import" use this catalog temp.

To merge all records, "the catalog import" using the large original catalogue.

After the "catalog import", you must go to the Panel of the new catalogue records and 'find missing' or 'move' the highest records so that Lightroom knows that the files are now on the new drive.
