How can I video the screen of the PC without having to download a special program

Hi, I did a training video for the school some time ago and forgot how to capture the screen as a video - I'm sure that it did not involve a program - it was simple if basic but suited my needs - watched YouTube, etc and have downloaded a program, but it's more complicated that I need. Help will be greatly appreciated :-)
