Allows to install/activate with a key non - OEM OEM disc

I have a laptop and I want to reinstall Windows 7, but I lost the original disk. However, I have an OEM disc, that I already used on another computer. Can I use this OEM disc to reinstall windows 7 on my laptop, using the product key on the back of the laptop?

If its a disc OEM System Builder, Yes, you can use it. If this is an OEM recovery disk, no, you can't use it.

For 5 years, Microsoft made it fairly easy for users of the Windows 7 operating system to get reinstall media. If you have lost your support disc or installation retail collection; either it has been damaged or defective; You can download a copy of the edition that you have licensed from a membership site called Digital River. More recently, Microsoft ended the availability to reinstall media that you can download as a. File ISO in Digital River, which is a digital reproduction of an optical disc.
It was particularly convenient for people who could not easily get the manufacturer's recovery media, did not want to pay the fees required to get or preferred a clean configuration without the software packaged manufacturers or even a recovery partition does not work. It's easy to use, all you had to do was reinstall and reactivate using the product key located on the certificate of authenticity and download all the drivers on the manufacturers website.
Given that this option is no longer available, what are your options? See the article for more details:
How to: What are my options for Windows 7 reinstall media?
Make sure you scroll down and read the section:
What to do if you cannot get your manufacturer recovery media, refuse to use or to buy it or the Microsoft Software Recovery Website does not work?

I don't know I just ring Microsoft but came across this place after the upgrade today to IE11... so much improved since the old days of THE Bravo Microsoft.

I don't know if you will be able to use the key since you upgraded to 8.1 of Windows, but you can try to revive by phone. Otherwise, you must reinstall Windows 8, and then again by phone then upgrade to 8.1 Windows through the store.

    1. press the Windows key + X , and then clickrun, and then type: slui.exe 4

    2. then press the ENTER"" key.

    3. Select your "country" in the list.

    4. choose the option "activate phone".

    5. stay on the phone (do not select/press all options) and wait for a person to help you with the activation.

Hello. For various reasons I had to format and reinstall windows on my lenovo think mobile W520. I have his activation code, but I don't have any sort of recovery disk. I have a 7 HP windows retail disc that I used for my office, but installation that will not let me activate with the key to the laptop. And naturally the key that came with the drive is in use. How can I find an installation disc that works with the key provided with the laptop? • Accidentally, I installed my product key for Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 7 Professional. Is there a possible way to activate Windows with this key?

Activate Windows 7: Home Premium on professional product key - please help!

    Hello world

I hope you can help me!
I have a product key for Windows 7 Home Premium. I downloaded it online when I bought it so that I never received a disc to reformat. Someone at work gave me their CD to reformat.
After you reformat and reinstall ALL my programs, I went to activate Windows 7 again. Guess what? Turns out that I used Windows 7 Professional to reformat.
Really, I don't want to go through reformatting and reinstalling everything and don't even know if I'll be able to get my hands on a CD to reformat Windows 7 Home Premium.
Is there anyway can I still activate my product key for Windows 7 Home Premium Windows 7 Professional? In any case I can exchange my Home Premium product key to a professional one? I love how my computer is currently configured and won't do anything else that just activate my legitimate version of Windows 7!
Thank you all in advance for your time.
    Ramon

The only way to do it would be to buy a license for Pro-

Since you have already apparently a licnese to Home Premium, you could buy an upgrade, and then create a repair install with the new key.

If you bought a full Pro license, you will be able simply to insert your new key and activate that.

    What is an upgrade?

If so, you must install and activate a qualifying operating system before you perform the upgrade.

  • The disk (with no key) installed Vista Home Premium, and the license key OEM is for... Home Basic!

    I recently did a clean install with the disc that came with my Dell XPS6400 (bought in the auction) local computer, which had only "Vista 32bits" written on it and no product key.  I thought I could use the key on the sticker on the underside of the computer OEM license, even if the 2 characters in the 3rd section were partially missing - they had to be one of the other four.  When OEM license was initially considered valid, I realized that I had not yet downloaded a service pack, but after that, he was still to come as being invalid!  Then, I found that the version of Vista that was on the disc was "Home Premium" and the OEM for "Home Basic" license key  Do I have to reinstall the whole system, drivers, etc., in order to establish the upgrade?  (Please say "NO", there is an easier way to do this!    Here's the MGADiag. -I hope it helps.  :-}

The product key on the bottom will work for what he says he is, Windows Home Basic Edition.

Reinstall the correct Systyem, Windows Home Edition basic operation to use this product key.

And Microsoft sells more than Vista.

To reinstall Vista Home Basic read this information.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

And if you have never received a recovery disk when you bought, not that one 32-bit, vista, your computer must be on the hard drive to reinstall recovery Partition Vista to how you bought your computer, which may or may not work after the installation of the wrong edition.

The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)

    Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.

Ask them to the proper key sequence.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

  • Windows 7 will not activate with the OEM key, after the failure of HARD drive.

    Hello

I was recently asked to repair my brother DELL laptop.  The HARD drive failed and the system unusable.  I replaced the HARD drive and installed Windows 7 Home Premium x 64 (earlier version of windows) from my own installation media.  The recovery partition had survived the failure of HARD drive, I would have just cloned that and used, but this was not an option in this case.

The problem that I am experiencing, is that windows don't will not activate, saying that the key is not valid.  I was told that installing Windows 7 media would work with a retail or an OEM key, but that doesn't seem to be the case.  The key OEM I use, is from the computer it came from originally, and the only material change is the new HARD disk.

I try to avoid ordering an OEM Dell installation CD, as which costs money (I already have my own installation CD) and takes time (why do they have them available for download?).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you

you use an OEM SLP key that only works with the manufacturers recovery media.

change the product key to that on computers of COA
Click Start, type slui3, press ENTER.

    Additional information:

Computers, which are built by large manufacturers provided with pre-installed Windows are supplied with 2 two product keys:

OEM SLP: This key comes pre-installed in Windows, when it comes to the factory. This key is designed to work with the special instructions isn't on the hardware of this manufacturer. Then, when Windows was installed using the OEM SLP (in factory) Windows 7 key leans on the motherboard and he sees special instructions and activates. (that's why you had no need to turn on your computer after you brought it home)

COA SLP: it's the product key that you see on the sticker on the side (or at the bottom, [or in the battery compartment]) of your computer. It is a valid product key, but must be used only in certain situations (for example, if the OEM SLP key stops automatic activation for a reason any). The key must be activated by phone. (Note: all manufacturers that use the SLP OEM system are bound by contract to include a certificate of Authenticity sticker (COA), which has a COA SLP key, on the computer)

I can re - install win xp pro using any win xp pro not oem and using original key to activate? I understand the oem rules as it relates to a registered oem (Dell, Acer, etc) but my oem copy was bought at retail and as far as I know is not related to a named oem. In fact, I'd say I'm oem as I made the original equipment.

There is disagreement on that. I've seen people claim that if you change the motherboard, you essentially create a new PC (which would mean you would need another license as an OEM license can be used on a PC and never transferred to another).

And then there are people who say that it is the OEM who decides what constitutes a new PC. I tend to support this point of view, personally. But there is disagreement.
BTW, if you bought the OEM CD has no impact on the license.
After installation, you may need the Microsoft phone to activate (in other words, if the activation over the Internet does not work).

    Hello

There is no vista download for free and legally on the net

Here are the different ways to reinstall Vista

Contact HP and ask them to send you in recovery vista disc to reinstall the operating system back as it was when new

they do it for a nominal cost of $

Solve a common problem of recovery with HP machines.
If the original operating system is changed to a non - Vista OS, the Recovery Manager cannot be launched either office or by pressing f11 at startup. You can use the recovery disk to restore the computer to the original state of Vista. If you are using a non - Vista OS, you can use a third-party partition management program to recover hard disk space.

or borrow a vista microsoft dvd; not an Acer, Dell etc recovery disk

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed

There is no disk drive on the new iMac, so I can't blow my disc. Is there a way I can download it simply by using the key to series on my package?
