How default search instead of Windows Search Assistant?

Using XP. Windows Search has been installed with a recent update of the Windows desktop. I use other software for indexing as most of my documents files, binary no text or word. I disabled indexing, but "Windows Search" is always the default when I select "Search for" in a Windows Explorer window.

I can pick him 'click here to use the Search Assistant' at the bottom of the window, but I would have preferred that search companion is the DEFAULT search method.

What do I need to 'twist' to get the default return Research Assistant?

I found the answer here, and it has worked great for me.

I did have to uninstall Windows Desktop Search.  The change is taken into account, you may need to restart your PC.

The instructions at the above URL address are as follows:

1 log into Windows as a power user or administrator - you need elevated privileges to access the registry editor.

2. open my computer or Windows Explorer. Expand your C: drive. Right click on the Program Files folder, and then select "search".

3. Windows Desktop Search (WDS) opens. In the lower left of the screen you will see "this folder is not indexed. Click on the "...". Please use Search Companion"link to open the Wizard search. This step ensures that the necessary registry value is created.

4. close the Windows Search Companion and WDS.

5. click on the Windows Start, then "Run" button (or press WINDOWS + R keys on your keyboard.) In the open dialog box, type REGEDIT, and then click OK. The Registry Editor opens.

6. to change the setting for all users of the computer, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Desktop Search\DS.
To change the setting for the current user only account, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Desktop Search\DS.

7. in the right pane, double-click the item "ShowStartSearchBand". In the value data field, change the '1' '0 '. Click OK, and then close the registry editor.

8. now when you right click on a folder in Explorer and select 'Search', the Search Companion window opens instead of WDS.

  • How can I choose the default search engine in the address window?

You explain how to change the 'address bar' default search engine at the top right. I want to know how to change the search engine in the address at the top window to the left. Currently, if I type in an address not recognized, my ISP search engine will appear. I'd rather have the search engine of Google or Bing when I make a mistake of addressing.

You can have an ISP that automatically redirects you to a search page if a DNS search fails.

Who takes control of Firefox to search with the normal keyword like a Google, I'm lucky search.

In this case, you will need to contact your ISP and ask for a DNS to opt-out of this feature.

You can also check if there is a link on the search results page to go to your ISP and opt-out.

  • How to set Google as default search engine in Firefox 5? I tried several fixes, but I get a Yahoo instead of Google search.

I want to use Google as my search engine, but no matter what I change the default search engine settings is still Yahoo.

I would also like to have the track back feature when I opened a new tab, it shows often used pages that I can click on and open.

First of all, thanks to dmcritchie. His solution was helpful. However, I didn't uninstall my Yahoo Toolbar because I have buttons, bookmarks, etc. that do not migrate.

For those of you, like me, who want to continue to use your Yahoo toolbar as well as the use of the Google toolbar, here's another solution:

Rather than uninstall the Yahoo toolbar just hide it. Go to the command bar, select view > toolbars > then uncheck Yahoo toolbar. (See first image)

    Then...

    1. Open a new tab.
    2. Go to the address bar and type auto: config and press the Enter key.
    3. A warning box appears. Close the box by clicking on the button "I'll be careful, I promise". (See the second picture)

    When the text comes up,

    1. Scroll down until you find "browser.search.defaulturl" it will be in bold. Third image, with the selection highlighted by me)
    2. Right click and select the first option which should be "modify", then
    3. Type (or copy and paste) the following:
    http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=

    Then,.

    1. Scroll down until you find "keyword." URL"it will be in bold.
    2. Right click and select the first option which should be "modify", then
    3. Type (or copy and paste) the following:
     http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=

    Finally,.

    1. Scroll down further until you find "yahoo.ytff.search.popup_src" again, it will be in bold.
    2. Right-click on the expression, and then select 'Edit'.
    3. Type (or copy / paste) in the following:

    http://www.Google.com/search?ie=UTF-8 & oe = UTF-8 & q =

    1. Close the tab

    And you're done.

This will allow you to keep all the buttons and bookmarks you have in your Yahoo toolbar without side effects unpleasant to have Yahoo away your research and give you the darned Search 404 error pages.

    I hope this helps.

PS while you make changes to the configuration: automatic, be sure to copy the values that you are editing in a Word Pad document for later retrieval. Be clear about what "preference name" you have accessed and what 'value' you changed. " In this way, if necessary, you can always go back and everything returns to its previous state. I titled my document "Firefox AboutConfig Changes".

    Good luck!

  • My default search engine has been on anything other than Google. How to switch this back?

Somehow my default search engine has been changed to Google to what is called "My Web Search". I want to switch to Google, but I can't figure out how. I disabled the plugin and removed my options of search engine in the top right, but nothing has changed.

You have My Web Search installed; Look under Tools > Modules > Plugins. He could have grafted in on something that you have installed. Always seek and opt-out when installing other programs and Add-ons that you install from sites other than the site of Mozilla Add-ons. My search on the Web is considered malware/adware/spyware by many. You must remove it.

Step 1. You can check if you have one of these installed ' Fun Web products ' :
Control Panel > add or remove programs: Ask.com Bar, my search bar, of the MyWay Bar speed, my search on the Web Bar, Fun Web products Easy Installer

Step 2 You may need to change a preference to reset your default URL/location bar search engine:
-Enter Subject: config in the URL/address bar and press the Enter key
-If you see a cautionary, accept it (promise you'll be careful)
    -Filter = keyword.url
-Under the filter, right-click on the keyword. URL and choose "Reset".
-Restart Firefox (file > restart Firefox)
    See: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Keyword.url

  • How to set google as default search engine?

I inadvertently put default yahoo through a separate application (bittorrent) and now can't find how to reset google as default search engine

To change the order of search engines, follow these steps:

    1. In the drop-down list, select Manage search engines....

  • How can I change the default search engine in the address bar?

Beta toolbar AVG changed the search engine used when I type in the address bar of Yahoo search. I uninstalled AVG completely toolbar beta, but I can't seem to find out how to change the search back to Google search engine.

Skip this step if you also have a Yahoo toolbar
    Remove the Yahoo toolbar

    1. 'Ctrl + Shift + A' (add-on Manager)
    2. Select the piece of the Puzzle on the left side for list Extensions
    3. Find "Yahoo Toolbar" and click the "Uninstall" button and restart Firefox. (if you really need to keep the Yahoo toolbar, you can hide the toolbar instead with personal and always not to change all default search settings below)

Then to set the default search engine used in the address bar, change the value of the keyword. URL in Subject: config to one of the values in the search of the address bar with MozillaZine.

    1. type about: config in the location (in a new tab) toolbar
    2. If the nonsense of warning message appears uncheck the box before dismiss the dialog box message
    3. filter by keyword
    4. Right click on the key word . URL and choose 'Edit' then paste in the string of search engine Google of your choice.
    5. filter on defaulturl
    6. Right-click on browser.search.defaulturl (if it exists)and again choose "Edit" and then paste in the string of search engine Google of your choice.
    7. filter on ytff
    8. Right-click on yahoo.ytff.search.popup_src (if it exists) and again once choose 'Edit' then paste in the string of search engine Google of your choice, so adventurous maybe see if 'reset' would delete and see if went into the session next (at least not for those keeping the extension).

  • Entries for Queriac will instead Verizon "Search Assist".

The way in which my comments: config is set up, all the entries in the URL bar that is not formatted as a URL are sent instead of "http://queri.ac/lenoxus/X", where X is the input. The result is that I can deal with the awesomebar as a command line of all kinds; for example, if I enter 'fb', it redirects me to Facebook, and if I type 'o' chocolate, he's looking for the Wikipedia "chocolate." (Yes, I know that Firefox bookmarks keyworded, but Queriac allows me to easily synchronize with other computers.)

I recently set up a wireless system for my house. The router gets input from a DSL modem which gets a Verizon phone line input. There is a new behavior suddenly current: If the entry is not a URL and does not contain a space, the request is sent instead a search engine for Verizon thing called "Search Assist". I tried following the directions of Verizon for this switch off (reinterpret for Mac 10.5), but the only result was to prevent all loading Web pages.

In any case, it seems to me that there should be a way for the model to go to Firefox-> Queriac-base-URL-> correct Verizon, please go to this page Queriac. How we prevent stop Verizon in and "try to help" before Queriac Gets a chance to receive the data of two or three letters? Is there a topic: config that might work?

For what it's worth, still works well if there is a space in the entry. If I type 'w Dragonfly', it will load this page, but if I go only 'w', it loads it. So a current workaround is to type things like "fb x." I want to workaround.

I had a similar problem with Verizon page that goes up instead of a search Google for the address bar. My solution was to change the server DNS from the router to prevent help them DNS.

For Verizon, the link is here - you just choose your equipment for directions: http://www22.verizon.com/Support/Residential/Internet/fiosinternet/troubleshooting/network/questionsone/99031.htm

I think that if search you page of your ISP to "Help the DNS" and that the words 'opt' out you may find specific instructions. If does not help their page, Google for the name of ISP and these terms.

Alternatively, you can also use the service DNS Public Google or Open DNS service - provide other DNS servers, you can integrate into your router.

    https://developers.Google.com/speed/public-DNS/
    http://www.OpenDNS.com/home-solutions/

For the record, I tried to modify the DNS of my PC, but the router was too my research, so I had change them it. It was very easy.

  • How to restore Google as my default search without having to reset the Search Options every day?

I see that other people have this very annoying problem. Whenever I restart my computer, Firefox become my default Google search Yahoo. It is irritating as hell and totally unnecessary.

Please tell me, IN the LANGUAGE of the LAYMAN, why this happens and how to fix it.

If this problem occurs only after you stop and start Windows back up again, it does not occur if you just quit Firefox and start Firefox back up again?

Given that Firefox does not have its own settings of default search engine, the more likely culprits would be:

    (1) utility software like CCleaner which can be planned to serve the various data browser at startup. You use something like this? If you do, go into the settings and set it to not to touch any data of Firefox.

    (2) other software wishing to perform searches of Yahoo! with a special address which gives a bouncing effect to the Publisher of this software.

To get an idea of who could be the culprit, you can copy the address in the address bar when viewing a Yahoo! results page and paste it into a response.

Standard address using the Firefox built-in Yahoo search plugin:

    https://search.Yahoo. com/yhs/research? p = firefox & ie = UTF-8 &hspart = mozilla & hsimp = yhs-001

Your results page of address list other parameters?

If you find that you are losing your search engine preference whenever you exit Firefox and start Firefox (no restart of Windows), see this article for suggested troubleshooting steps: How to fix preferences that will not save.

How can I select 'search yandex' as a default search in the night Navigator engine 44.0a1 x 64?

Now, I see a lot of search engines but did not have "yandex".

And how do I install elements of Yandex, when this may be available?

If you are not able to install a search plugin for Yandex from the modules or Mycroft site, you can try to install one on the site (this works in Firefox 41, I have not tested in every night):

Visit https://www.yandex.ru/ and notice that there is a green circle with a + on it on the search bar of Firefox. Click on that and then find the line on the menu drop down to add the site as a search engine.

I have attached a screenshot, but since I can't actually read the language, I apologize if it's totally another thing.

To make Yandex your default, you can use the link at the bottom of the Panel to the Options page search section.

    Success?

Regarding Yandex elements, is the problem that Yandex has not presented the extension to be signed by the team of Add-ons? It's something that you might feel free to encourage them to do.

Assistance from the address field in the search bar appears only intermittently to perform an Internet search for key words. a solution would be greatly appreciated.

You can check if you have the XML files including Google's default search engine in the browser\searchplugins file in the Firefox program folder.

If this isn't the case, then you need to reinstall Firefox.

Try to delete the file search.json and possible search - metadata.json and search.sqlite files in the profile folder of Firefox to reset the default search engines.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder currently in use:

Firefox will rebuild the file search.json from the default search engines in the folder "browser\searchplugins" in the Firefox program folder and the searchplugins folder in the Firefox profile folder.
