  I plan to level 4.1 to 5.5 U2d vCenter on the customer site. One of the conditions set out in the vSphere upgrade guide is:

  "In vCenter Server 5.x, the default size for vCenter Server connects is larger than in vCenter Server 4.x. make sure that the disk space allocated for the log folder is sufficient for this increase 450MB."

  My question is how to allocate disk space for the log file and where can I find the disk space allotted to file papers to vCenter 4.1 existing?

  Just see the free space on the partition where the vCenter server logs are stored. If it is insufficient, increase the size of the virtual disk and then increase the file system to the guest OS.

  Use the vSphere client (when it is connected to the vCenter Server 5) and check plugins/extensions you installed here: Menu "Plugins / manage plugins.

  You must update the plugin Manager Update to the new version. If everything else is enabled and work so no more away from updates are required.

  just in a few short points - for more information, take a look at the white papers:

  .) Download vCenter 4.0 U2 since the download portal

  .) see white papers and the hardware compatibility guide that U2 will have no problems with used equipment

  .) make a backup of your database/Installation vCenter

  .) connect to your vCenter Server server

  .) Run setup.exe

  .) first run the pre-upgrade tool

  .) Run Installation vCenter - this will make an update to your vCenter and your database

  .) then run Installation Manager update - this will update your system Update Manager

  .) now update your Client to vCenter

  .) Update your hosts for U2

  I want to enable (set to true) memoryHotAddEnabled and cpuHotAddEnabled on the vCenter Server Appliance.

  I can't the powerCLI user because he needs a vCenter Server Appliance to connect to (right?) and to allow HotAdd of the virtual machine must be turned off.

  For anyone wondering, the best way to do this is to connect the ESXi host via vSphere Client, turn off the VM vCenter and update the configuration in this way.

  I moved recently a job MRS. install from a location on the site staged in a collocation facility.  A Re-address IP has been involved.  Now the SRM Service side Dr. does not start and if I go to VirtualCenter on the DR Side and click Site Recovery Manager sound as if he still considers that its to old IP (even if I gave the server VCenter DR new already).  How to do everything in SRM to recognize the new IP and also to get the service restarts?

  The production side under connection cannot connect.  Break is grayed out.  When I click Configure it shows the DR site by DNS name that is correct, but it does connect not (probably because the SRM service on the side of the DR does not start).

  I am trying install Win Server 2012 and in order to get installed it, I understand that I have to update my current version to 5.0.0 VMware - 455964 I have for later. I was hoping that it would accomplish this by accessing the VMware vCenter Server Appliance in the section "Update." But when I hit 'check updates' I get a:

  To configure DNS on the vCSA change the Type of address to SLAAC-IPv6 first and you can add DNS server address and the host name.

  A few months back, I've updated our installation of the vCenter for v2 plugin, now called OpenManage integration for vCenter Server. When you perform the upgrade, we have kept the old base done vs a new installation. During the upgrade process, we deployed the new device under a new name of the computer.

  Everything works well except that we noticed an annoying thing. Registration of the plugin is the former name of the server instead of the name of the new server-oriented. It is validated by looking at the web page MOB: http://vcenter Server/fmt drilling then down through:

  Content--> Extension Manager--> extensionList ["com.dell.plugin.OpenManage_Integration_for_VMware_vCenter"] --> server--> URL string

  The configuration of the appliamnce shows the correct new name of the device and the administration console is accessible via the new name for the device. The only place where we see the old name of the device is in the MOB config.

  We tried to remove the plugin and added, but still cannot change the value of server URL to reflect the new name of the device. Until we solve this problem, I work around the problem by keeping just the DNS entry for the old name of the server in DNS.

  Anyone know who to change the property MOB for the URL of the server?

  I solved the problem.

  I found the following article that shows how to upgrade the extension. I just cut and paste into my current values with the URL of update and now all is good.

  With the exception of the editions Essentials, vCenter Server is available Foundation (to manage up to 3 guests ESXi) and Standard edition.

  VMware vCenter Server Heartbeat supports configurations of single NIC or multi.

  Public IP address: this IP address is used by a client to connect to an Active Server, and move between the secondary and primary servers in the case of a failover or a passage.

  IP address of the channel: this is for communication between active and passive servers. This is used for the transfer of control and an asset to the passive server data and monitoring the State of an Active Server.

  In a LARGE network, static routes are used on switches to maintain ongoing communication.

  Management IP address: this address is used to access servers in a passive role. In a multi NETWORK card configuration, a NIC will have IP addresses public and management, and an another aura NIC IP address of channel.   After you have installed your first ESXi host, open a browser and go to https://your-ESXi-ip-or-FQDN

  You can download the vSphere Client here. It is a windows application that you can install on your desktop. It is often referred to as the "c# Client vSphere" in communities and blog posts, because it is a new implemented in the vCenter Server Web client.

  But for the beginning, install the vSphere Windows Client. You can then launch it and connect directly to your ESXi host. Here you can create your first virtual machine, which can be the VM vCenter (installation of Windows or device, that is you).

  You can use the web client or connect to the Server with the client c# vSphere vCenter VCenter runs.

  can this change?

  I can't found the maximum number of clusters a vCenter can handle, only the maximum number of hosts per cluster, which is 32... but altogether, you can have more than one cluster without problem.

  Do a little math, since vCenter supports 1000 guests and each group can have 32 guests, maybe you can have at least 32 clusters... but not 100% on it.

  Once my 5.0 ESXi host is managed by / code with a vCenter server, there are some commands that you can perform only through the vCenter.

  In particular, all-hard drive size, whole-controller SCSI and Set-VMReservations.

  In case my vCenter is down, I would leave my script (PowerCLI 5.5r1) with a mistake that these operations cannot be executed until start of vCenter or the host that contains the virtual machine is no longer active with vCenter.  I think it's safe to let the user decide how he wants to move forward in this case and not build it in my script.

  Is there a cmdlet to ask the host if it is associated with a vCenter Server?  When you use VI Client to connect to the host, you can see the link in the lower right part of the Summary tab that says "separate host to vCenter Server...". ».

  The get-VMHost cmdlet seems like it should have this info, but I was not able to find.
