But having to get the the sound is to say, Dolby on the apple tv directors and the fact that it is not an optical port on the latest version of the Apple TV Im a bit stuck, my receiver runs through CRA HDMI on my tv.

  iPods (which are not on the iPod touch) are not directly related to an Apple ID.  They can be associated with an iTunes library (which is what you use on your computer to sync it), which is not the same thing as your Apple ID.  Simply connect to your current computer running iTunes and start using it with his iTunes library.  If it is currently associated with a different iTunes library, iTunes will replace the existing content of the shuffle with the contents of your current iTunes library.

  I don't know if this is the problem, but it is something that must be correct establish a secure connection:

  Open Date and time preferences system, Date & time tab. Make sure that it is set to automatically set the time.

  Alternatively, make sure that your date/time is correctly set to the second.

  Another thing to try is to restart your modem and router.
