"How do I (or maybe I can) create an area on my desk that contains related files/folders, etc.

I didn't need to know how to create a folder on my desktop, but rather a 'sector' or area of my screen, which contains the files, folders, etc.  I would like to be transparent, so that I can see all I put in the sector and can click on them, but I would be able to move/objects in there by dragging them from my office and I would be able to click on an object in the 'sector' and open in, more, I could drag and drop the entire sector to a different part of my office.  I seem to remember having seen elsewhere on another computer to office some time ago, but don't remember who he was or how he was affected.
