currently have windows xp 2002 version w/service pk 1; you will need to upgrade to the pk 2 service to support the new printer. How / where can I get service pk 2?
If WinXP SP1 is still installed, you may not have a valid & functional anti-virus application installed (and you miss more than SIX YEARS of critical security updates). See...

If these procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, good reputation and stand-alone computer (that is, not BigBoxStoreUSA or Geek Squad) repair facility.

How can update Windows XP SP3?
Or is - it is no longer possible?
Repair install is rarely desirable. They are delicate, a number of things can go wrong, and to minimize the number of things that can go wrong, to do a little prep work.
If done correctly, a repair installation will leave all installed programs and data (documents, mp3s, photos, etc.) intact.A clean install of course means that the drive is wiped and established a blank instance of an operating system. -

· What exactly are you trying to do?
If you want the updates released after Service Pack, then you cannot install them until you install the Service Pack.
I suggest you to install the Service Pack, which is a package of all the updates.

Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > System Restore > restore time/choose your own date > next
If you use Norton, disable it before using the system restore.
If it is impossible to enter the Normal Mode, do a Safe Mode system restore:

In addition, on the page where you clicked "Installed updates", click on change settings at the top left corner it
> Change update settings in the next page of AutoUpdate to "check for updates but let me choose etc" > OK ".
