How is HD 4:3 content?

I'm used to HD content to display wide meaning. Everything I have ever downloaded/purchased in HD has always been contained pan.

Recently returned in the leap forward and I saw that iTunes has HD and SD versions. Was happy to see that there are episodes of Quantum Leap HD so I bought an episode just to see the quality in HD because Netflix and Hulu have 4:3 aspect only. Downloaded, played and its still in 4:3 aspect ratio.

What is the problem with that? Really noted on the QL pages that even the HD versions are still in the square proportions of old-school.

I don't think that HD refers to the aspect ratio, but the number of pixels in the image (usually 720 or more vertical). Don't expect even a TV show only limited age to be true HD because if it was shot on a television camera there are a number of lines.  Now you can do anything with the encoder settings and you can take a fairly low quality image and encode it to high quality.  You end up with just an image of high resolution of the original image quality.

I saw the old TV shows with format widescreen, but I suspect there that they had to cut the top and/or the bottom of the original image to get one of this format.

Regarding getting Apple to add the information, they will also have to obtain from the seller:
