• How to prepare VMware VCP 5?

  Hi all, I intend to take 5 secure Channel data center review in the next 6 months. Part of my role is to support the VM servers, but that does not give me an exhibition full of technology. I want to own a practice laboratory where I can create, modify, migrate virtual computer servers. What is the best way to create a laboratory? VMware workstation has limited features, i.e. I can not reproduce w/o SAN infrastructure. Can what tools I use? How VMware professional prepare for VCP, VCAP exams?

  As others have said, VMware Workstation is adequate for the preparation in the review of VCP 5. You will not be able to cover every single goal in terms of the review with the workstation-based laboratory installation, but you probably wouldn't be able to do this without a pure material laboratory very very expensive still. Get VMware Workstation on a host with as much RAM as possible and go from there. For the goal, you can't reproduce in your lab of the workstation (FCoE, cf anything) spend reading a little more time and see also on youtube. The number of objectives you can not cover with this lab setup is few and really should not be enough to make the difference between the past and do not.

  The only thing I can say with the laboratory of the workstation is to never get too attached to your configuration. Do not think that this is a static environment and think about all the virtual machines as throw. If you are outside resources and need to turn a new Windows VM to test the Update Manager or other software, then just clean up and go for it. You may need to do a little more work with this approach, but which only will prepare you more.

  There are currently 3 courses that give you right to the VCP4 certification:

  Install configure manage - 4 days - $2995

  Fast Track - 5 extended days - $4500 - $5000

  Troubleshooting - 4 days - $3000-3500 (during the expedited procedure is a pre-requisite for this course if)

• Confirmation of CRS # class training to take exame VCP - how long is good for?

  I took a VMware vSphere 4 class of Global Knowledge in Nov 2009.  I received my VCP Confirmation # that would allow me to take the VCP exam when the class was completed.  For various reasons, I was not immediately able to continue the review.  Looking to get back on the right track with this.

  How long are good VCP confirmation numbers for what is being called to take the VCP exam?

  Anyone know?

  There is no time limit that I know of take the training class and pass the exam. You can take the exam as long as as it is offered. I actually had my first VCP test more than a year after the training.

  As you can see in http://mylearn.vmware.com/mgrReg/plan.cfm?plan=12457&ui=www VMware also supports training more into account. If you for example has trained VI3 and now want to take the exam, you will need to only the "What's New" upgrade instead of the whole training course.

• Want to get VCP, I'm kind of screwed?

  Then, I attended a class training ESX 2.5.x a few years ago, when I was new to virtualization.  Now, I have gained a lot of experience and feel that I am ready to take the test to earn a VCP certification.  Is there a test that I am eligible to take or do I have to re - attend a training course to become eligible?  If I take a class, should be a full or is there a kind of refresher training that would be sufficient?

  Of course, I know that things have changed somewhat since ESX 2.5.x but I have never felt a need to attend another class in a perspective of knowledge I have increased my knowledge by experience.  In fact, I'm fairly certain that my employer will not pay to send me to another ESX training.  I'm kind of screwed?  Thank you!

  Hi, from what I just read on the pages of Certification I'm sorry to say that you have to do a course. Page how to become a VCP on VI3 . He staes to the bottom of the page:

  Candidates who participated in "Virtual Infrastructure ESX 2.x" but has not become VCP certified must take the path of 1, 2 or 3 in order to become a VMware Certified Professional.

  Each of the paths involes a course. It goes the same for a VCP4

• How to get experience on VMware certified a VCP? being my orgn. don't have ESX.

  I am certified VCP. But my orgn not used the box of ESX or VMware. But each orgn. ask for 2/3 years experience at least. So how do you gain experience on the VMWare? I can online laboratory practices? I secure Channel - ID, but I am unable to open a session also

  You can get the installed Workstation and work on it. Or you can download the evaluation version of vSphere and practice at HOME. I don't think that there is no such virtual lab online.

  I've been a lurker here for a long time avid but have just decided to post. I am a student at the VCP-410, but I'm in a quandary on how to do it. I have several Labs here at work and another at home and have been install ESX (i) from 3.5. I followed advice (very good site BTW) Scott, used the Forbes vReference cards, read notes and links to Simon Long on a daily basis. I even bought "Mastering Scott Lowe 4 vSphere (LEDGER). I'm up to speed, I think that on this.

  My question/problem is how / did you all go and study in this review? This isn't like any review IT I have studied before. You went through all 8 Sections and 'Master' each one before moving to the next or did you just go down the list of the EHR Architecture one by one? I labbed many things in no particular order, but that seems chaotic and for me, I like to order when I study. But with so many things to study and 17 pages of objectives, sometimes it seems that I will never get to the end.

  Then my next gripe is that I have a colleague who, for me at least, took the "easy way" and examined braindump documents ONLY (I won't give them this name tag) and now my boss gave him an opportunity that I think I could have done and as he has passed the examination in less than a month using this material and I still do. Of course, they let him go to the class and I didn't have that chance, but what. I wanted to know your thoughts on this as well

  I registered to the review through VIEW Web site using the. Nowthat I erased VCP March 14, how would I be able to connect to the VMWare VCP link requesting the user name and password. I m also wondering why nobody asked my ID of class to register for the exam?  If that were the case, anyone without course with instructor could have registered and passed the exam. Is it not?

• How exam VCP can be changed after releasing the vSphere 5.1?

  I am preparing to review the VCP of vSphere 5.0, and now vSphere 5.1 came out, so I have a few questions on the possible evolution of the review of the VCP in near future:

  -Do you know or can you guess when the knowledge/skills based on vSphere 5.1 will be tested on the exam?

  -Exam based on vSphere 5.1 will be a separate with its own code review, or the current review of the VCP5 is updated to include the content of vSphere 5.1?

  -If the VCP5.1 exam (based on vSphere 5.1) will be a separate consideration, it will replace the current VCP 5.0 review? or the two exams for vSphere 5.0 and 5.1 coexist at the same time?

  I have invested in current VCP5 exam, so I just want to know if I take VCP5 review the earlier to avoid the review update/update/change? or don't have to hurry because vSphere 5.1 will not affect the current review of the VCP5?

  This question comes up every time VMware a minor version of vSphere, and the answer is that PCV tests are independent of minor versions. VCP510 is the exam for VCP for vSphere 5, not 5.0 or 5.1.

  The certification team go through each of the questions in the pool for the review and ensure that each item is valid for all minor versions. Unless VMware publishes a new examination plan that specifically call 5.1, you can continue your preparations you are today.

• VCP 4: how to make a demo for evaluation of vCenter 4.1?

  I took a course VMware 1 year ago and put back my certification exam, and now I would like to take the VCP 4 exam.

  It seems that the evaluation downloads only allow you to download the latest VMware products (vSpehre 5).

  I want to play with vCenter 4.1 (as part of my preparation for the VCP 4 Exam) with ESXi 4.1, but I can't download vCenter.  I have ESXi 4.1 and I can install it.

  Can anyone offer some advice?

  vSphere 4 is no longer available for download for evaluation - only existing customers can access to download now. Your only assessment option is vSphere 5, many features will be the same.

• VCP from today - now how make it worth $$$?

  Hi all -

  I passed my VCP today - woohoo!  I have worked with VI3 and unemployed for most of the year and have everything set up, consolidated our Dev Environment, and am doing the same thing to our DR site.

  I told my boss and his boss on the passage of the review and what I came out it was "Good work" - a colleague bought me a Mocha for a reward.  I'm the only person in our society which has been formed on this stuff and only secure Channel (of course).   So, here are my questions: have you found ways to make stand out / make more than $$$ now that you are certified?  Is the only way to make profit VCP is to go elsewhere?  There are part-time positions that would need a PCV?  Thoughts?

  About to start a blog there are many free solutions (see for example the Wordpress site).

  But it is not a magical set of tasks to become a vExpert... is not a certification where you will need to pass an exam.

  Have you seen the previous form of vExpert? There is a lot of point where you describe what you do.

  Blog site, twitter, VMware community, books, VMUG,... are simply a set of them.

  I can only suggest to just start, use Twitter and Google + (there is a good circle of John Troyer).

  Need help in the community, write some post, and so on...
