How to bulk reconnect originals to the photo library?

If I move a referenced original and try and change it, Photos ask me where is the original and I can access its location and plug it in again.

If I move or rename the whole file of 60 000 originals, there doesn't seem to be a way to reconnect of the Photos in the folder, given that with an opening.

If the hard disk containing the original fails and is replaced by another one with the same name and path to the original, then pictures will reconnect automatically, but not if the path is different, as I wish it were so make a re-organization of data.

Thanks for any help.

It of quite okay and is f several reasons that referenced library are not recommended with Photos - it doesn't have the tools appropriate to deal with a referenced library

    Hi obafemiosinnowo,

In version 5.5.0.2340, clicking once on your image in the toggle image size of the PIP of the size of the thumbnails to slightly larger and back. This behavior is identical to the Windows version 5.8.0.156.

However, unlike the version of Windows in Mac version once your PIP in the largest size there is no method, by dragging the corners, etc., to resize the additional PIP. The result is that the PIP is too small, even in the larger of the two sizes available

I deleted the photo library of the file Explorer, but images still remain in the application of the photo library. I know not how to remove them one at a time but

    Hi Doris,.

When you select a picture, is there a graduation present in the photo?  If the tick mark is not there, which indicates that the photo was not selected.

  • What does the option "copy photos to the photo library?

I explore this now app Photos (worst name ever) and I wanted to import photos in Photos. The problem for me is I want to let the pictures where they already are. I'm not interested in a database or the system that hides the pictures of me in the finder. I want to be able to right click and reveal in finder - "export image" is a terrible choice.

So, I see an option to check in the preferences. It reads: "Copy pictures to the photo library" but has no explanation as to what that means or does. This is what it will move my photos if I select copy? (their disappearance from the original file)? It will resume photos - clutter up my drive? If we make a copy and I update the original in Photoshop - it will reflect this change in the Photo?

So many questions and I can not find an answer to any place. Even the help files had nothing that I could find.

Default is 'Copy photos to the photo library' enabled.  Then the pictures will do exactly that. Any Photo that you import pictures is copied in the photo library and managed by pictures. You can remove the original outside the library after you have verified that it imported properly.

If you disable the option, pictures reference the file in its original location and does not copy it.

This configuration is not recommended because you have to manage photos on your own. If you delete photos of Photos, you must delete the original outside yourself. You cannot use iCloud photo library with referenced files and if dot nee restore you from a backup library will need films to another drive, you will need to manually reconnect all originals. It is subject to errors.

If we make a copy and I update the original in Photoshop - it will reflect this change in the Photo?

It will not work. Two Photos will ignore changes to Photosho or lose the connection to the original file. To use an external editor in pictures use extensions to change Photos photo editing panel. Let the pics to send the original to the external editor.

  • Transfer the photo library in iPhoto to Photos

I have just passed my iPhoto library photos on El Capitan (10.11.3) on my new iMac and have lost some pictures, some were 3 years old from the originals and thus lost location information, faces and events.

Would this be normal?  Can I retrieve the original info. ? or do I have to revisit each of my photos almost 5000 and identify the faces and places all over again?

    NO.

It's the photo library is exactly the same as the iPhoto with converted albums - events library see How Photos handles content and metadata for iPhoto and Aperture - Apple Support

You have iPhoto 9.6.1? If not see if you can get it - can not update iPhoto because it is not available in the App Store

Then clean your iPhoto library - Notes on the migration of an iPhoto for iPhoto to Photos for Mac library

Then drag the library own icon in the Dock to migrate again from Photos

  • Cannot repair the photo library. The best way to restore from iCloud library?

The photo library of the system is damaged and cannot be repaired.

It is said "Photos has attempted to repair the library"Pictures Library 2015 ", but can not open it." .

I first met problems with this library a week before and at the time where I could repair and open the library successfully, but lacked a month value of photos.

Given that it was successfully in the iCloud library, I left it to re - sync - but this process suspended several times before the end, and the photo library of the system now seems to be permanently damaged.

I have no project of marked or impression of faces in the photo library of the system, then I would be happy just to restore from iCloud.

My plan is to put in place a new - empty - library and then that designate the library of the system.

If I understand this right, the new (empty) system Photo library will now resynchronize with iCloud and will copy all the contents of this library of back to my Mac.

Is this correct? It is the most effective way to restore my library?

And while I'm here - what is the best way to manage a very large library? I had my photo library become corrupted ten three or four times over the past years and have found it necessary to divide into single years to prevent this. I overlooked this piece of household by the end of 2015, and now it's happened again... Surely, there must be an easier way to manage libraries of images of several years?

Is this correct? It is the most effective way to restore my library?

Yes, if you don't have a useful upward on your Mac.

How do you call a large library, I've never had a corrupt Library, I think that your problems are not the result of the size of the library, but rather something else. From my experience it is recommended to maintain a local upward, I use Time machine, but also have a second to the top using a third-party backup solution.

  • How to import images continuously in my photo library?

I discovered another disappointing aspect of photos. When I import images in the photos, I assumed that they would remain in the library after I deleted the temporary folder on my system. Unlike iPhoto, you can see on the pictures, but you can't do anything with them, because it looks for the original file. How to import images so that they remain in my photo library?

    Change your preferences of Photos.

You probably disabled the option "pictures > Preferences > General: import: copy items in the photo library.

This option must be enabled, or Photos will reference just the pictures stored outside the library in their original location.

Make sure that this option is enabled. See Help for this Page: https://help.apple.com/photos/mac/1.0/?lang=en#/pht12e7a8015

For photos that you imported earlier, which are always referenced outside the library, select all the pictures, then use the command "file > consolidate" to copy in the library. After that, Photos will manage them.

  • Photos referenced in the photo library are in the iPhoto library

I have 26 pictures in my library of Photos that are referenced photos. I want to collect my library of Photos. However, when I try to do it says Photos that I need to allow it for the folder that contains these 26 photos. Unfortunately, this folder is inside my old library iPhotos, which is a package and therefore cannot be accessed via the dialog window Photos gives me.

I tried to find 26 photos manually via the Finder via "Show package content", but I can't find them. A Spotlight search did not help either.

Does anyone know how add these 26 photos referenced in my photo library.

The strange thing is all the other photos (over 7,000) migrated my iPhotos library my library of Photos with no problems.

I have 26 pictures in my library of Photos that are referenced photos. I want to collect my library of Photos.

Have you tried to select the photos referenced in Photos and then use the command "file > consolidate?  To copy the original image files referenced in the photo library and making photos managed them.

What happens when you try?  I see that sign.

  • Drag the photos to iCloud by car and in the photo library

I am running OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 on a MacBook Air to 2015 and a Mini Retina Display iPad running iOS 9.0.2.

I have a lot of pictures, registered in several different folders, that is currently in my iCloud drive. I want to reduce the amount of storage space, I use icloud drive. But I still want to be able to view these pictures on both my MacBook Air, as well as on my iPad Mini.

So I thought I would create a number of Albums in the photo library to match with the folder names that I use in iCloud Drive and drag the folders of photos in these Albums in the photo library.

But it does not seem possible to drag the iCloud library photos in the photo library? It doesn't make a difference if I try and do slip into the same window of Finder, or if I open two Finder Windows and try dragging from one to the other (I don't know what's the difference - if any - between dragging items in a Finder window and pulling them from a window of the Finder to the other?)

    How can I do this?

Anyone who responds to this, thank you very much and I wish you a Merry Christmas.

You can open the Photos on your Mac app and drag them from iCloud drive in the Finder in the Photos app. The other method is to use the file import Photos app menu.
