How to compact encrypted hard Workstation 11

Salvation;

I am running Linux Centos 6.6 invited on a 64-bit Windows 7 (workstation 11) host. The virtual machine is encrypted, and I wanted to compact its hard (a file grow-able, ext4, I think).

I started by trying to VM / manage / cleaning discs, but which seemed to do nothing (he says no cleaning is required).

I tried VM / settings / hardware / hard disk / Compact disk to reclaim space. That doesn't seem to do much.

I went in the comments and canceled the free space with a 'dd' command and tried again the compact. Still no obvious help.

I then tried to do from a command line Windows 7 host, but failed with

VMware-vdiskmanager - k 'F:\VMWARE-Wrk\CentOS-6x\CentOS 6x.vmdk '.

VixDiskLib: File setting configuration not valid. Failed to read the configuration file.

Cannot open 'F:\VMWARE-Wrk\CentOS-6x\CentOS 6x.vmdk' disk: one or more required keys were not foreseen (0x3e8e)

Failure at the 'F:\VMWARE-Wrk\CentOS-6x\CentOS 6x.vmdk' fret: one or more required keys were not foreseen (0x3e8e)

Is there an 'official' way to make this work?

Thank you;

An encrypted disk cannot be compressed.
> I went in the comments and canceled the free space with a 'dd' command and tried again the compact.
Because of the encryption it will not write zeros to the vmdk - it seems that like that of the Interior of the guest.

Either way... encryped VMDK is quite fragile - you create backups regularly.

    Hi @Diane47,

Thanks for joining the Forums of HP Support with your request to printer.

I understand that you have a HP Officejet Pro 8500 has e-all-in-one printer you plan to elimination and you wonder if the hard disk is encrypted and how to destroy the hard drive. I would like to help with that.

HP Officejet Pro 8500 has e-all-in-one printer don't have a hard drive. It contains a very small amout of memory, so it can keep in memory the printer and fax settings.

You can clear the memory by restyoring the printer back to the default values.

    1. on the printer Panel, select Setup.

    2. from the Configuration menu, select Tools.

    3. on the Tools menu, select Restore Factory Defaults.

  • How to disable disk hard identification in LR 3.3?

    Hello!

I have a problem with the LR 3.3 on my Windows XP. I have a lot of hard drive (1 TB, 2 TB SATA2, made by Samsung) in my XP system with my RAW photos, all encrypted by Truecrypt. When I need to import my photos existing warranty hard disk (Truecrypt is the best tool I tested), LR 3.3 blocks the Move option and add in the import dialog box.

I have to reproduce my photos by copy only - options and Memory Card

LR 3.3 is the thought, that my encrypted hard drives are my memory cards and disable add and move option.

How to turn off this bad identyfication?

And in the end, every time when I want to import photos - LR 3.3 seeks all my TB hard disks (more then 30 minutes) to create / view my thumbs folders - and I can't stop this search. How to turn off too?

    Concerning

    Remisteness,

There are a few things to mention about your problem:

    (1) analyzes all drives after importation from

Just after the opening of the import dialog box, try clicking on a hard drive as soon as possible and uncheck 'include subfolders '. This should prevent the scanning of readers.

    (2) what is presented to the o/s for an encrypted device

Of course, your encryption software presents 'virtual' disks as removable devices for the operating system, which led LR to treat them as 'cards '.

I have a similar software used to access data encrypted in "File containers" (Backup PrivateDisk). In backup PrivateDisk, I can configure the way a 'virtual' drive is presented to the operating system, either as a device removable simulated hard drive. If I choose 'Simulate the hard drive', the 'virtual' drive is represented as a hard drive in my WinXP and LR does not show as a removable device, thus without the restriction on 'Cards' during the import.

    (3) the restrictions imposed by LR while the importation of "cards".

LR prevents users to move photos when directly accessing a memory card, because if a file would get damaged when importing valid none of the copy of the image would not exist everywhere. Also, adding photos residing on a real memory card makes no sense either, that too many users would look for their original images after disconnecting the (and possibly reformatting) memory card.

There was a long discussion in this forum lately on whether it makes sense or not that LR is trying to protect users of hurt them. I guess we can see it either, and the limits chosen by Adobe type to protect Adobe from too many questions/accusations.

    (4) solution to workaround for LR 3.3

To be able to add or move a removable device in LR 3.3, you can do the following:

    1. You create one or two import Presets, with adding / moving as long as the action to perform. You must create these presets while doing a test import to an external HARD drive or of interal, then save from there.
    2. When you access your removable device, navigate to the drive by clicking on the drive letter in the drive below "Files" list and not clicking on the removable device in the section "devices."
    3. Choose one of the built in step 1 import presets

This will use move or add as the action to take (to be noted that no action at all is highlighted), even if you import from a 'map '.

Because this behavior is a hidden feature / without papers (or same bug?), we do not know if this possibility will be existing in the future releases of LR, but at the moment it seems be a workaround.

    Hi Frank,.

I'm not too sure about the P10, but on my A30 the hadr drive is under the DVD-ROM. It is secured in place by a single screw (accessible from under the laptop), and when it is deleted the DVD-ROM slides just to place revealing the hard drive.

    Hello

Unfortunately this Toshiba device it unknown to me and I don t have found all documents on the replacement HARD drive.
But as far as I know, there should be only 2 possibilities how to do to remove the HARD drive.
1.) under the disk HARD is placed at the bottom of the unit and you should only remove the cover of the HARD drive.
    Or

2.) HARD drive is placed in the Notepad. In this case you will need to Remover the keyboard and some covers to replace the HARD drive

Well, I can give you only that info. I think that if you want to know the detailed instructions, you should contact Toshiba service partner because it has a more detailed information on these cases.

I need to replace the hard drive on my Toshiba Equium.
Can someone tell me the procedure? I changed it once before, and I remember having to press one of the function keys when I turned on the laptop with the new hard drive installed.
Should I have the recovery disk when the laptop is turned on with the new hard drive installed?

    Hey,.

You should take a look in your user manual. Sometimes you will find a detailed how instruction replace the HARD disk, but it according to your laptop model.

If you swapped the HARD drive, you need to reinstall Windows. Therefore, you can take the Toshiba Recovery disk that will restore the initial setup in a few minutes with all the drivers and tools. You only have to boot from that drive and that s all! :)

  • How to do a Hard Reset on a HP laptop?

Hard Reset allows you to solve problems of software and hardware

This post looks at HP laptops.

Hello, I will do a quick post on how to do a Hard Reset. A hard or forced Reset clears all the information in the memory of the computer which can restore the functionality. Reset your computer forces the system to erase and restore the software connections between the BIOS and hardware.

Perform a hard or forced reset may fix the following:

    • Windows stops responding
    • Computer stops before Windows loads (no boot, a blinking cursor on a black screen, or errors related to the operating system not found or missing disk)
    • View suddenly turns off and remains empty
    • Software freezes
    • Keyboard unresponsive
    • The computer did not return from standby or sleep mode
    • An external device stops responding (turn off the power to the device in addition to perform the steps in this document)

When you perform a hard reset, you must disconnect or remove all devices. You should start and test the computer itself and then reconnect a device at a time. To solve the high beginning or operational problem, you must run the wizard from the HP Support, or manually install the drivers all updated by Microsoft and HP.

To perform a hard reset, use the following steps:

To perform a hard reset, use the following steps:

    1. Turn off the computer.
    2. Remove the computer from the docking station or port replicator.
    3. Disconnect all external devices connected: displays of devices USB, printers, external storage, etc..
    4. Unplug the laptop AC adapter.
    5. Remove the battery from the compartment to batteries.
    6. Press and hold button power for about 15 seconds, remove any residual electric charge capacitors that protect memory.
    7. Insert the battery and plug the power adapter into the laptop. but do not connect peripheral devices.
    8. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    9. If a boot menu appears, use the arrow keys to select Start Windows normally , and then press the Enter key.
    10. After you have reconnected each peripheral device, run Windows Update and HP Support Assistant to update all device drivers.

Now, if your computer has a non-removable battery, these steps will not work. Instead, refer to use a Reset forced to solve Hardware and Software questions on laptop with a sealed Non removable b... .

I hope that this solves any problem you can have that happen with your laptop.

What you downloaded exactly on the Toshiba site?

As written Akuma you must install first added value Package you will find also on the Toshiba site. Check this box!

An interesting thing: it does not work if you are using the preinstalled operating system? It should have everything installed for your laptop.

  • Satellite A30 - how to remove the hard drive

    Hi Tim,.

The hard drive on your SA30 is in the optical drive, but slide the optical drive out of its housing (undo the F5 marked screws on the bottom of the laptop).

The hard drive will be visible fixed with four Phillips head screws that need to be removed (two on each side of the hard drive. With the removed screws, gently slide the hard drive toward the front of the laptop to disconnect its connector and carefully pull it out of its Bay.

This will affect the software factory example: back up hard drive function, OKR?

Is it acquisitions have 8.1 Windows on a laptop Lenovo-B50-7?

What will happen if I got rid of Windows 8.1 operating system?

    Thanks in advance.

    Information on the machine:

    B50-70

    Model name: 20384

    Windows 8.1

I've not seen / heard of successful use of the flash drive for recovery purposes. The default software using optical disk, when I used it on my G580.

If your laptop does not have a CD / DVD burner, you may need to contact them directly to discuss this option.

As to where he is? It is a hidden partition on the hard drive, is usually not accessible.

Cloning the hard drive can not return to that partition hidden - it would be a little bit the clone of the drive to work.

I recommend to download your manual of maintenance on the Support site and learn more about the 100% specific for your laptop recovery process.

  • How do I encrypt a data file so that only I can retrieve the Info?

How do I encrypt a data file so that it cannot be read without permission?

I have a request where the client shouldn't have access to the data that I need to save for troubleshooting purposes.  (there are trade secrets, I want to protect)  My plan is to save a datalog (currently I produce a Spreadsheet tabs-delimited format) whenever the device is running and hide the files where they will not likely be found.  But some sort of encryption or everything at least password protection would be better.

I never tried to do this before, but thought it would be pretty easy.  Maybe I'm looking all just not in the right places.

    Thank you

Well, you could look in something like DES, Triple, ESA, etc.  It has libries lying since these writings in LabVIEW.  I'm not sure about the cost.

If you want a very simple way to protect your data, just reverse all or part of the bits in each byte of the file.  It's super simple and turns a nice ASCII text file noise when read from a text file.
