How to convert old Outlook Express (.idx files) contacts in Windows Live.

I DON'T HAVE THE OLD COMPUTER TO USE TO EXPORT THE CONTACTS!  I HAVE ONLY THE. IDX FILES.

I have a copy of the files from a computer that is running outlook express was .idx.  The computer broke down.  Now I have a computer with Windows 7 and Windows Live Mail.  I need to convert or import these files .idx in my new computer.  Programs or suggestions on how to achieve this.

Thank you

An Outlook Express address book is a .wab file. An IDx file is a video file. I don't know how you saved it as such, or a way to convert it.

I don't like windows live mail hoe can install express look?

I don't like windows live mail

I'm not either. I think it's the worst email program I've ever seen.

But there are a lot of other choices of e-mail programs, some for sale
    and some are free.

can hoe I install express look?

You can not. Outlook Express disappeared for several years. Windows
XP was the last version of Windows to include it.

You have chosen to install Windows Live Mail or is it entered
preinstalled on your computer? If your computer came with Windows 7
pre-installed and also Windows Live Mail, which is not because Windows 7
came with it, it is because your computer manufacturer delivered it
    with what he sold you.

Some people will tell you to use Windows Live Mail; others will say
You can use Thunderbird; still others may have other recommendations.

My advice is to ignore all of these recommendations. I personally use
Microsoft Outlook for the mail and Forte Agent for groups of discussion, but you
must try several and choose what you prefer, rather than
your decision based on what I, or anyone else, like better (or even
    what Microsoft suggests).

  • Is there a way I can recover my Outlook Express email. I hate Windows live mail and want to come back to Outlook Express. I have Windows 7.

Is there a way I can recover my Outlook Express e-mail account.  I downloaded Windows Live Mail and don't like it at all.  I can't understand how to add a new contact.

You post in a forum of Vista and Outlook Express last used in XP. If you mean Vista Windows Mail, unless you have removed the account, just open the program and use it. You can remove WLMail whenever you want. It is a part of the programs in the window Live Essentials Control Panel uninstall section.

  • How to convert a WPL of music file in my Windows 7 to an MP3 for a Sandisk Clip Sport formart

Song downloaded to Windows 7 Media Center. It is a WPL format, but I can't play on my SanDisk Clip Sport MP3 player because the player does not support this file format. How can I change the WPL to MP3 format?

Hi Natalie - WPL is a playlist file and cannot be converted to mp3 because it contains only pointers to the actual music files. You need locate the actual music files and transfer them from there. (They may not be no need for conversion - it depends if they are in a format supported by the SanDisk card - it seems to support usual ones).

    Cheers, Ric.

  • How can I open my old XP DBX backup files on my Windows 7 computer?

When I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, I saved all of my old Outlook Express DBX files on a backup hard drive.  How can I open these files DBX now so I can find something in my old emails?

The orginal .dbx files should be intact. You should have a .dbx file
for each folder in OE, more a "folders.dbx" that contains the folder
    structure.

If they have been imported on WLM, the messages must be in a folder named
Imported files (or something similar, I don't remember exactly), under
    Records storage.

  • Computer died. Past from Windows XP to Vista. Lost Outlook Express mail folders. Not in Windows Mail. (Got 3 months of e-mail entering the transfer.) I can't the old Outlook Express files?

This is my first posting. Don't know how much has appeared in the "title". Computer died. Past from Windows XP to Vista. Lost Outlook Express mail folders. Not in Windows Mail. (Got 3 months of e-mail entering the transfer.) I can't the old Outlook Express files?

Have I lost the files of Outlook Express completely or is there a way that I can import them in the same way that e-mail came? My old computer died (power source grilled or something like that). I still have it, but no way to turn it on.

If you can access the old hard drive PC you can get the data of Outlook Express store.  See this: http://www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx or this: http://www.insideoe.com/backup/ Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook]

  • How to read DBX outlook express files?

HOW TO READ OUTLOOK EXPRESS DBX FILES

I just bought a new computer with Win7.  Now that the OE is gone (OMGosh!) How dbx files be read?  I have OE files and now find there is no apparent way to read.  I downloaded ParetoLogic but hesitate to run it.  The message says it will make changes to my computer.  What happens if the files are made completely unreadable!  I ran the scan function and several "pilots" were listed as obsolete.  Can it be good?  I just bought the latest and greatest computer!

You need import dbx files into your e-mail without a name client. Win7 doesn't have a native email program of its own.

You use Windows Live Mail by accident?

Transfer of data from Outlook Express and Windows Live Mail:

    For messages:

Copy the * ENTIRE * OE message store folder to a flash drive. (Folders.dbx must be included). Place it on the desktop or another location on the computer using WLMail. Open WLMail and: file | Import | Messages | Microsoft Outlook Express 6, and the point where it was saved.

    Location of OE message store:

In OE: Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

    For addresses:

Open the address book in OE and file | Export | Address book (wab) and save it to the desktop. Copy it to a flash drive. Place it on the desktop or another location on the computer using WLMail.

Open the Contacts list in WLMail, (go |) Contacts in the Menu bar) and the file | Import | Address book (wab) Windows and the point where you saved it.

Note: If you use a CD or a DVD instead of a flash drive, after placing on the new machine you must remove the read-only attribute in the properties before you import.

  • My main computer crashed and the data has been retrieved from the hard drive, including all of my Outlook Express dbx files

I'll provide too much information because those of us who are computer knuckleheads think that everything is important since it is a mystery to us.

My main computer crashed and the data has been retrieved from the hard drive, including all of my Outlook Express dbx files. There are four years of e-mails in these files and critical that I be able to open them.

My only working computer running XP. It has Outlook Express is installed on it and was once used for e-mail, but not more and not implemented with my ISP to send or receive if it matters at all. Other that the sending and receiving of all the other functions of the OE program appear to be operational.

I have read many explanations on how to open the files dbx on different sites - all is completely different and most seem well beyond my skill level.

There is a fairly painless way to open these files? I don't want to try anything that could damage them. Please... any solution please guide me through in its simplest form - I am 64 but pretend you are explaining the process to a 7 year old. Yes, I'm that lame!

Sorry for writing a novel and thank you to all who take their time to help the ignorant!

I advise you to immediately copies of your DBX files restored. Save the duplicates in a place safe, and don't mess with them.
Then try using one of the various tutorials that you have found on the Internet by using a copy of your DBX files restored.
I did it a few times, but years ago and I DBX http://www.techrepublic.com/forums/questions/how-i-open-corrupted-dbx-files-in-oe/ visualization tool
You just continue to make attempts, using a tutorial after another.
As long as you have these unchanged copies of backup of your DBX files, you should survive it - other than frustration. Email PC remains a mess.

  • How to get my Outlook Express, I had before the crash and restore?

My computer crashed so bad I had to click on the f10 key, but it did a restore and I lost my Outlook express, even my e-mail provider windstream has been lost and now, they can't recognize my old login, can't my email even with the same settings as I had typed out after that I started usuing Windstream in 2010 my address book is gone! can not get my address book! My new outlook Express6 has a released check it out, but when I click on it nothing happens. I used it even though my intention was not to send an e-mail, I am a bad speller! I'm very confused with my old outlook Express and the address book. The news is very disappointing!

According to Bruce, you will need to search for *.dbx to locate the directory of dbx files.  Make sure that you have configured to display the hidden files and folders and do not hide the extensions of the types of files known as control panel | Folder options | View.  Also when research conduct an advanced search and include files and folders hidden in the advanced search parameters.  The address book is a wab, so also the search for *.wab file.  When find you them, then use the file | Import | Messages and files. Import | Address book to get back them.  See also www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#4 and www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx for background information.

If you have formatted the drive when you did reinstall it, then the old files have disappeared.  My DBXpress program has a record feature which can recover some of the lost messages (see www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/).

To the properties of your account, you need to collate Windstream or check their Web site for the correct settings.

  • Outlook express message files compact

Once my machine started to the top I get the outlook express compact files pop up message.  I did not and have never used outlook express for email, so why OE delivers this message.  I tried to completely remove the OE my machine, but all attempts to remove or rename files either result in a "file in use" message, or in the case of an attempt to change of name, the system creates a new copy.  Full scans the machine AV don't identify any issues of Trojan or malicious and all software security patches are applied.

Can anyone tell how to stop this message occurs please?

    CHRS Bert

Leave you compact once, correct? If you did, here is the complete list of opportunities.

The problem is with the registry counter which gives you the prompt after 100 closures of OE. It is increased faster than it should be, and even if you do not OE.

There are a growing number of programs and actions that can cause after installing SP3. You have following situations?

Keyboard IBM rapid access (pilot) RAKDLL. DLL
    Search Windows {office}
    MailWasher
    Nero-plug-in (s)

Opening of EML files while OE is closed will also help the County to register.

Different antivirus, antispyware, and third-party firewall, especially if they were running when you installed SP3.

Archived discussion discuss this issue in June 2008:
    http://groups.Google.com/group/Microsoft.public.outlookexpress.General/browse_frm/thread/fcd35fbfa457fd6f

In the case of Windows Search, (the offender #1), you must be told to stop indexing OE.

Windows Search. Set Desktop Search Options:
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Australia/windows/desktopsearch/search/options.mspx

In the control panel. Indexing Options. Change. Clear the check box for Outlook Express.

In the case of Nero Scout, see point 2.3 page 8 here.
    FTP://ftp6.Nero.com/user_guides/Nero8/Scout/NeroScout_Enu.PDF

In the option to exclude indexing of selected file types, remember to add these file types:

    .eml, .dbx & .nws

I've never used Outlook Express 6 on the xp computer. I uninstalled this email I used. So, I wanted to start using outlook express 6 on my XP computer.

But I can't send or receive e-mails. I called my Internet provider nine times and they have checked and rechecked the settings. The last time I got the Dell Solution Station technician, use direct control with the computer, a phone in 3-way with my internet provider.

Question:... If Dell to uninstall outlook express, Microsoft would send me a web link so I can re - reinstall Outlook Express 6?
