How to create a virtual machine on a stand-alone host?

Hello

as you know others my son, I created a workflow to create several identical virtual machines on a cluster.

Since we do not only have clustered hosts, but also some autonomous machines, I need to modify the workflow to be able to create virtual machines on these hosts.

The main stage of the workflow is obviously one that creates virtual machines.

It is derived from one of the supplied workflow within the Orchestrator library, but in the end, there is not much difference.

The original workflow uses this method to create a virtual machine:

task = vmFolder.createVM_Task( configSpec, vmResourcePool, vmHost );

I've omitted vmHost in my workflow, because I did not want the user to select the host in the Cluster.

So my execution of the method looks like this:

task = vmFolder.createVM_Task( configSpec, vmCluster.resourcePool);

Now, I tried to get this method to create a virtual computer on a stand-alone host, but everything I tried, he failed.

Does anyone have a solution or a trick, what I might try to make this work?

Thank you very much

Andreas

For the root folder, try this:

var parent = vmHost.parent;
While (!) () parent instanceof VcDatacenter)) {}
parent = parent.parent;
}
var vmFolder = parent.vmFolder;

    In your Virtual Center client in the left upper corner click the inventory button and choose 'Models and Virtual Machines' this will display your virtual machines as well as the underneather of models in the window of the host tree.  Right-click on the template and select deploy the virtual machine from this template and it will start the wizard.

  • How to create the virtual machine to a virtual machine existed file?

    I have two hard drives on my VMware host. There are virtual machines on a SATA drive, how do I list these files of virtual machines and copy one of them to create a new virtual machine (it can save a lot of my time!). I did this way on VMware server 2.0 because I can see what they were and where they were under Windows. But on vSphere, how can I do? Maybe you guys have other ways to do it?

    Thank you!

    On vSphere, I suggest you use autonomous vConventer instead. It is quite simple and easy to use. Alternatively, you can copy or clone the virtual disk to the virtual machine via the Console (ESX) Service offline

  • API to create a Virtual Machine without using a model

    I see the GUI documentation how to create a virtual machine without a model, but I can't find the actions of the API how to build the virtual machine based on custom settings (CPU, memory, OS, etc.), there are a only of the shares how instantiate OVF or vAppTemplate. Could you please tell is possible to generate/create the VM without model or OVF by API?

    I see. Thanks for the background.

    Based on my notes there is no such API. Other applications were similar to this one and the solution suggested in this case is to programmatically create an OVF (describing the configuration of the VM to instantiate) and import it into the vDC. The end result is the same (i.e. an empty VM configured by entries) the difference is how it gets instantiate (created from zero Vs described in the OVF and imported).

  • How to create a virtual multi-user computer

    Our company has installed a new VDI and I'll put up the new virtual machine for our staff. I ran into a problem where I don't know how to create a virtual machine that will allow several people to connect. I have created several dedicated vm up to this point, but he must now create one where a user can walk up to the virtual machine, choose the journal and then to connect under a different. Any advice on how to implement and what type of pool is necessary are appreciated.

    Create a floating office pool with your desktop into it.  Then when the user disconnects.  User B can connect to the same workstation.  It is about the only way to do it with to a Terminal Server.

  • How can I create a virtual machine

    Should I create a virtual machine from a boot camp partition or install Windows XP from an existing file?  Help!

    I did a little research on the website of Apple, and the marketing point of view, they have a sort of gloss over the fact that you need a Windows install with Boot Camp.  Here is a Knowledge Base article that makes it a little more clear.  I can see if you look how Apple sells Boot Camp (and Fusion or Parallels also) the need for a Windows installation disc is kind of lost in the noise.  If Photoshop is the only thing that you think you will need Windows to consider that a Windows install disc will probably cost you about $100.  While Boot Camp offers you the best performance under Windows Me, it is inconvenient to keep restart the machine in Mac OS X or Windows as needed.  Fusion or Parallels meets the needs most (I think that most needs except for gamers) and is much more convenient, but it is an another $35 à $50 or more on top of the purchase of Windows. That's why I suggest just buying a copy of Mac in Photoshop if that's all that you'll need Windows.

    Make no mistake that you are now several computers also with Boot Camp, Fusion or Parallels.  Llke maintenance common Windows defrag, backups must be done any program installation you chose to use.  In my case I have to use some applications only available under Windows for work, and I prefer Quicken on Windows to its ' equivalent of Mac (they are not the same program) so I use Fusion.  If it wasn't for these needs I will try to be just a Mac user.

  • How can I know what the user creates a virtual machine?

    vCenter 2.5 update 4.

    All users of this connection are users active directory.

    How can I find who created a virtual machine from scratch / deployed a VM from a template.

    I.E. I'm visualize something like a right click on the virtual computer, then select properties and it shows you the creator / owner. A bit like the advanced windows file security tab, you can watch the owner.

    It is not a good like that.

    But the newspaper of VC, you can trace who create/deploy a virtual computer.

  • Virtual PC - create new virtual machine snap into button appears not

    I installed virtual PC and having the image in XP mode works on Win 7 64 bit on a Dell Optiplex 990 i5 processor.  However when I choose the Manager of Windows Virtual PC and the Windows Explorer window opens, I see not the option create a virtual machine, just 'burn' where it should be.

    I tried to activate windows 7 aero UI think the classic look of windows blocked somehow but that has no effect.

    I tried to reinstall the configuration of virtual machine directly on the site but it gives me the message that there is not suitable for use.  I tried uninstalled and re - install, but get the same when the Explorer window is missing the snap.

    How can I get the snap in option seem to create a virtual drive?  The window appears with the title of Virtual Machines.

    Once again, the image in XP mode work properly and starts and stops without any problem.

    Hi all

    I try to clone a virtual machine to vsandatastore. But I get the follow error:

    -> failed to create the object:

    When I create a virtual machine or create a file vsandatestore on the web client. I also see the same error.

    Could someone give me some suggestions? I do not know how to solve this problem.

    Thank you!

    > Policy requires 2 replicas with discs 1 each with 0 bytes free each. Only found 0 these records

    This means that all three nodes in the cluster is not participating in the storage. Check if all 3 nodes have at least 1 diskgroup and contributing to the storage

    default vsan strategy is 1 failure to tolerate what creates two replicas. so that you can either ensure that all 3 nodes have at least 1 diskgroup or create a vm storage policy replacing the default values

    Thank you
