How to "create an association?

Sometimes I get e-mails with attachments that I can not open and get a message "this file has no program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if such is already installed, create an association in the default programs control panel. »

In this case, the attachment was in PPS.  I can find the pps in my all programs list and get a window titled "Set Associations" but do not know how to go from there.  Is it possible that even if .pps is listed in my programs, I can't use effectively?

If you use a browser to access your e-mail, it is the question.  You can set a default e-mail application if you have an e-mail application and the browser is NOT a messaging software.

Install an e-mail client and it will work, and that's why it worked on XP because you probably had Outlook express installed.

To define ways of binding to set a default program to open a specific file.

I will use as an example powerpoint files... PPS, ppsx, ppt or pptx

Start > Default programs > Aoosociate a file type or Protocol with a program > under the name at the top left, scroll down until you see pps > until it clicks > look through > under current default, he should had sat in Microsoft Office PowerPoint or Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer...
If it does not, click Change Program... > find Microsoft office PowerPoint or Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer, click it > click OK.

Now, the associated file is defined for powerpoint files.

This mthod apply to all other files. You just know what program is supposed to open what kind of files.
