  I'm working on a friend's computer troubleshooting. I plan to roll back of IE8 to IE7 (or it might even be IE6). However, I want to just try this if I know for sure that IE6 has been upgraded AFTER SP3 has been applied.

  I am trying to determine where these updates have been made. I thought that if I went into Add / Remove Programs, I would get this information here, but alas, he's not here.

• How to determine if an installed program is Legit or necessary and I have a problem with Microsoft Essentials as well.

  I went through the system to my PC and while watching the programs installed in the Control Panel, I noticed several strange programs I don't remember installing.  I have just suffered the wrath of a restoration complete in October, Yes, it was terrible.  Anyway, how can I know if the installed programs are useful or harmful to my PC?  They are legitimate programs? If legit, are necessary or simply make my PC run slow?  Any help would be greatly appreciated, I can't really experience the collapse of PC that I just went through.

  In addition to the above PC problem... recently when I boot my PC, Microsoft Security Essentials - REAL PROTECTION IS ALWAYS TURNED OFF TIME?  I uninstalled the program and reinstalled it twice... maybe, I missed a step.  In any case, there has never been that big red "X" showing the real-time protection is disabled and my PC is at risk?  Comments or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.   In vCenter 5.5 I could log on to the site for example https://vcenter_url:5480 / #core.Login and select the option to check the updates and if necessary to install updates for the device.

  This site is no longer available in v6. I tried to check with the Update Manager, but it does not work as incompatible due to the vmware tools installed, here is vmware tools open and not compatible with the Update Manager.

  This can happen if the corresponding .exe file is associated with a program that is installed on your computer. To check the instance of the file, you can check in the list of programs and features in Control Panel. Apart from this, it can be due to an infection by the virus.

  To know different alerts and notifications, you can open the Action Center in Windows and check important notifications or the needs of Windows to accomplish tasks. To do this, please refer to the following location: Start > Control Panel (see: large icons) > Action Center.

  Also, you can also check error messages in the event viewer for more information.

  (Click Start, type Event Viewer in the Start Search and press ENTER.)

  To check the program third party or service by giving pop-ups/alerts, you can start the computer in a selective startup with no third-party software in operation. This process is known as a clean boot.
