How to fix large dbx files in outlook express

I have files dbx with a mailbox store that exceeds the 2 GB size limit. I'm looking for any tool from Microsoft to fix this. I found a few third-party tools, but they are not very useful. Is a Microsoft tool?

No. that's why the 3rd party tools have been written.  The best is mine (DBXpress- www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/).  I know because I wrote it.

Seriously, you cannot repair a file of this type.  The only thing you can do is to extract messages, if it still contains messages.  Sometimes files get wiped out and filled with zeros and then nothing can extract messages from a file filled with zeros.  You can try to compress the file and if it zips down to nothing, it's what is in the file: nothing.  If this is the case, then my DBXpress program is the only one who has the extract from disk feature that will bypass the file system and to analyze the whole hard drive directly to messages.   If they are still on the clusters of disk somewhere, it will recover them.

But we can't let a dbx file get above a few hundred megabytes, otherwise it is subject to corruption.  The backup of dbx files as bak files before compression file (see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#2) has been added just in cause of this question - so many people have let their records become too big and then when compacting the files would be loaded with zeros (and software antivirus made it worse).

So the best thing you can do in the future is to save often (there are FREE on my site tools - see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#6) and keep the size of the files dbx under a few hundred megabytes.

Thanks for the help, finally understand it a day or two ago, it is important in a storage folder, it WILL NOT put it in the mail client, you have to find the storage folder. who is buried deep (C:\Users\***\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Storage Folders\Imported Folder\Local folder) in the C drive, and then copy and paste in the files, one folder by one. BTW, the link refers to the import of Vista, Win7 not. The process does not work in Win7

  • How to recover the .bak file in Outlook Express 6

There is a file Quatotion in OE6, however he suddenly missed.

    How can I find it?

I found that there is a Quatotin file in the trash with .bak extension backup a week there is the exercise of OE6 compression of last week.  How get the .bak folder useful?

    Thank you

You must close OE and then delete the oldquotation.dbx file.  Change the name again.  Create a folder called Q1.  Then open it once.  Then close OE.  Then, delete the file Q1.dbx.  Then with OE still closed, rename the file bak to Q1.dbx.  Then open OE.

  • How can I recover old files from Outlook Express to a secondary hard drive to Windows 7?

Power supply on the old PC Windows XP, which uses Outlook Express consumed. I have installed hard disk Drive 'E' on Win7 unit. How can I recover the files OE on Windows7 unit?

Original title: OE for Win 7

    See http://www.pcdon.com/080113OutlookExpress-WindowsLiveMail.html.

Once you have the data in Windows Live Mail, you can choose what e-mail program you prefer and import to Windows Live Mail.

Some e-mail programs can import only an instance of Outlook Express, which is not an option in this case.

  • How can I find dbx file so that I can remove it. I am unable to open Outlook Express

How can I find dbx file so that I can remove it.  I'm unable to open outlook express

    Original title: dbx file

    You try to remove Folders.dbx?

In Windows XP, the files of user OE (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

The path to the message will be very similar to this:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Your User of utilisateur\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\ {long string of letters & numbers} \Microsoft\Outlook Express

With OE closed, find the Folders.dbx file and delete it.  Another will be created automatically when you open OE.

    Note these possible side effects:

When you re - start OE, it will build a new index of all *.dbx files it can read and create a new Folders.dbx. However, understand that you will lose the mail directory structure and message rules will probably have to be edited.

  • How to import a dbx file unique to Windows Live Mail?

I imported my files of dbx to Outlook Express 6 for WLM (Windows 7) last month, but a valuable record has been lost due to corruption. Now, I discovered a forgotten dbx backup that I'm desperate to add to WLM7, but it does not recognize the dbx file. All the advice I have read, says that you can import all OE6 files and folders at once, and that it does not recognize simple records. There is no work around for this? I'm desperate to import this file, but do not want to lose all my other imported files making.

    Help, please!

The reason why you can not get imported WLMail dbx files is because Folders.dbx must be included in the backup. Manually recover dbx files in OE, you can export them.

If it is possible please provide step by step procedure.

All attachments add about 33% size thanks to the encoding. This makes your 31MB file around 41 ~ 42 MB. I doubt that your ISP/mail server allows something that big, and of course, I would not be the recipient of a message that size.

Create a YouTube account and put it there. You can make public or private and provide the link to the recipient.

  • How can I get my emails in Outlook Express on my Windows 7 PC?

    Outlook Express email

I recently changed computers because my old hard drive crashed.  Now I have Windows 7 and cannot access my emails that were in Outlook Express, because it is no longer available.  How can I get my emails in Outlook Express?  They are important!

You can get details on the import process in the Windows Live Mail here forum: www.windowslivehelp.com , but you need to find and save the old disk dbx files.  You can get an envelope to connect the drive to the new PC and copy the old dbx files, or you can have a tech company such as Best Buy do it for you.  They will be hidden so you must enable the display of hidden files and folders under control panel | Folder options | View and also uncheck the option there to hide the extensions of the types of known files so you can better distinguish the files.  Once you find them, copy them to a subdirectory of the Office of the Win7 machine and then check the properties of the files to ensure that they are not read-only.  Then you can import them into WLM, I hope, and if not, you can get a program to extract messages and then drag them into the folders of WLM.

A user to our small business reports that she one day noticed that the contents of its files to Outlook Express disappeared.  Records are intact, but the messages have disappeared.  Strangely, what happened to half of its files; the content in the other half is still there.

    She uses Outlook Express 6.
    Suggestions?

In addition to comments of Bruce, likely OE compacted messages and in doing so, he probably wiped out the where they are absent.  Check your Inbox and message store bak files which are backups dbx files prior to compaction (see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#2).  If you cannot find the bak files, then you will probably use the extract of the service drive of my DBXpress program (see www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/).

  • Can I transfer my file to outlook express on the desktop?

I currently have outlook express on my laptop.  I recently purchased a top of desktop with Windows 7.  Can I transfer my file to outlook express on the desktop?

Windows Live Mail is the replacement of the so-called for Outlook Express and Windows Mail for Vista. Personally, I can't stand it and use Thunderbird, but it's my preference, and who knows, you might like WLMail.

Support for Windows Live Mail can be found here.

Others include, Pegasus, Eudora, Opera and much more.

If you go with WLMail, here are the instructions. More detailed information is available in the forum WLMail.

Transfer of data from Outlook Express and Windows Live Mail:

    For Messages:

Copy the * ENTIRE * OE message store folder to a flash drive. (Folders.dbx must be included). Place it on the desktop or another location on the computer using WLMail. Open WLMail and: file | Import | Messages | Microsoft Outlook Express 6, and the point where it was saved.

    Location of OE message store:

In OE: Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

    For addresses:

Open the address book in OE and file | Export | Address book (wab) and save it to the desktop. Copy it to a flash drive. Place it on the desktop or another location on the computer using WLMail.

Open the Contacts list in WLMail, (go |) Contacts in the Menu bar) and the file | Import | Address book (wab) Windows and the point where you saved it.

Note: If you use a CD or a DVD instead of a flash drive, after placing on the new machine you must remove the read-only attribute in the properties before you import.

    For the account settings:

In OE: Tools | Accounts, select the account and export it to the desktop. This will be an .iaf file. Copy it to the new computer and WLMail desktop: tools | Accounts and import the settings from the location you saved the.
