If you have an older version of yahoo messenger installed, uninstall it first. To uninstall, try the following steps.
Step 1: Use windows install cleanup.
Follow step B mentioned by Diana D on Thursday, March 25, 2010 04:34 uninstall existing yahoo messenger.

Step 2: Turn off non-Microsoft programs.
1. sign the computer by using an account with administrator rights.
2. click on start, type msconfig.exe in the start search box and press ENTER to start the System Configuration utility.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click on continue.
3. on the general tab, click Selective startup, and then clear the check box load startup items. (The check box use the file Boot is not available.)
4. on the Services tab, click to select the skin all the Microsoft services check box, and then click Disable all.
5. click OK and then click on restart the computer.

Step 3: Download and install the latest yahoo Messenger.
1. visit the following link and download yahoo messenger: http://messenger.yahoo.com/
2. open the downloaded file and install it.

Step 4: Start the computer as usual.
1. click on start, type msconfig.exe in the start search box and press ENTER.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click on continue.
2. on the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.
When you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart.

    I doubt that there could be something wrong with BIOS, you can access the BIOS by pressing F2.
    But if Linux is bootable, then everything is OK with the BIOS and HARD disk
    I think that only Vista partition and master boot record may be defective.

    I think that you need to install the SATA drive in order to recognize the HARD drive.
    The SATA drivers should be part of the Robson package which is on the European driver Toshiba page.
    Maybe then you could get access to HARD drive and running a chkdsk /F

    I think that your laptop is not the recovery of HARD drive partition.
    Only the most recent models of laptops that are not delivered with the recovery disc supports this feature.

    Turning on the PC with a wireless receiver (Microsoft model 1119) plugged to any USB port causes Windows Vista does not load.  Turn off the PC, unplug the receiver, put the machine, loads without problem.  Once windows is loaded, reconnect the receiver wireless Microsoft and less than a minute, the keyboard and the Microsoft wireless mouse works perfectly.  Device Manager does not take into account conflict of devices.

    Check if the hard disk has been set as the first boot device in the boot coastal in Input/Ouput order Basic (BIOS). Otherwise, you can set the hard drive as the first boot device and check.

    Consult the manual of the manufacturer, to do the same thing.

    Note: BIOS change / semiconductor (CMOS) to complementary metal oxide settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from configuration can resolved BIOS/CMOS settings. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

    Thanks for the reply, I've had systems both Norton and McAfee on my computer in the past and I'm afraid that some root or a part of the McAfee program is always subject.  After going through the process of uninstalling before installing the SP Seccurity Essentials I saw signs of him and I tried to get rid of it by following all the various suggestions.  I even bought an announced program that claims to be able to do the job (not true).  Let me ask you one more thing, a total system restore would do the job?  Also moving to Windows 7 at this time would do the trick?  Thank you in advance, I have all my personal and purchased programs and files ready just in case it came to that.  I am and will always be a loyal user of Microsoft and supporter just as Microsoft has treated me.

    Frankly, I think that the solution is a bit radical and would hesitate to make all those changes myself, so I do not recommend actually but present it as an option as it is put forward by Yahoo itself on this problem with Yahoo Messenger with Vista.  The choice to try (and risk) is entirely up to you.  If you decide to do, then I suggest first you create a system restore point and then I'd do more full backup, you are able to do.

    If you cannot do a full image backup because your version of Vista, then consider to download and install the free Macrium Reflect: http://www.macrium.com/ReflectFree.asp and follow the instructions to make the recovery disk and then create a backup of the image of your C: drive (assuming that's where Vista is installed) to a drive hard USB external so you can quickly and easily return to the point before you started if something bad happens during the process, or after the process.

    When you click on their name, two tabs will appear - one showing a constant loading "dial". Close that one. Then just keep the other open tab.

    I know it's not practical if you have many contacts who chat with you, but if you have just a couple, it's at least a possibility to discuss with them by E-mail.
