  You can install XP on this laptop. As you say you have to boot from the XP CD to install it on the HARD drive.

  But maybe your OS doesn't see the HARD internal disk? In this case, you need to install the SATA driver first. The Manager of the Intel Matrix Storage Manager includes the SATA driver. Intel Matrix Storage manager can be downloaded from the Intel Web site.

  During the installation of Win XP, it must use the F5 key to include the SATA driver from an external FDD drive (floppy).

  If you don t have an external USB FDD then you can use the program called nLite.
  For more information, I recommend goggling for nLite software.

  AFAIK the downgrade is fairly easy: just boot from the disk of XP downgrade that was shipped with your laptop and follow the instructions on the screen and that s all you have to do! :)

  You n t need a serial number, if you install the operating system on a disk from Toshiba. It s already configured.

  I received an A40 to go there for a friend, and I'm fighting. He is currently a little cycling through the boot process. It does the same thing when I'm in the mode without failure of XP.

I managed to get into the BIOS (hold the ESC key after turning on), but that only allows me to update the time system & the password (which is currently displayed in form "unregistered").   Yes, you may be able to activate the start on-screen menu by pressing F12 immediately after switch on/off the laptop.
  The C button should also allow booting from the CD/DVD drive.

  Try this several times. Usually, this should work if a malfunction of the computer laptop doesn t.

  No, you cannot scan from computer to the printer. You have to put original on the glass and you can use the HP scanner on computer software to scan and save a document/photo scanned on computer.

  My question: do you have installed the software and driver on your computer yet? You should do this first.

  There are many cloning utilities, but I recommend Acronis True Image. You can clone your hard drive, then use TI to the image of your system and to make incremental backups. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!
