How to get more space to store data

Hello

I am newbie to ESXi 4.1. Recently I setup an ESXi 4.1 with the data store total 267 GB (146GBx3, RAID5), created 1 Win2008 Std 64 bit thick provisioned VM size 180 GB of disk & partition as C:\80GB, D:\100GB under Win2008, currently only 20,57 GB free data store space.

(1) I try to create an another VM Win2008 standard 64-bit using typical/custom but max only allow 40 GB, how to get about 100 GB? (C:\60GB, D:\40GB)

2) can I change existing VM thick to thin to follow steps of http://www.righteoushack.net/?p=419? what a C:\80GB, D:\100GB under Win2008? would it automatically resize so? or can I reduce existing 180 provided thick GB?

(3) why there are 3 hard files created for a single virtual machine? how hard to remove? (see photo datastore.jpg)

(4) as the system comes with Quard core 6 GB RAM & CPU, existing VM use 2 CPU4 GB of RAM, can I put a new virtual machine to use 2CPU4 GB RAM?

Sorry, so many questions.

Thank you and best regards,

Kelvin

Hi I run Windows XP, 34.4 GB that I have only 12.4 free GB file system is NTFS. I have Service pack 3.

When I go into add or remove some programs, it seems to last forever. With 4 or 5 year old stuff.

Sometimes, when you install things he'll say «if you already have the old version, you can remove it after installing the newest one...» What I want to know I can do it with service packs?

I clean my pc almost on a daily basis, as removal of games I don't play anymore, but it doesn't seem to make a big difference. so any help on how to get more memory or ram or what ever it's called would I hope be useful. Thank you, John

PS computer is about 6 years old, in the way, and it's a DELL

12 GB of free space is allowed to have.

It is roughly 1/3 of your total hard drive.

so I do not know why 12 GB of free space is not enough for you.

However, if you want more then you can download / move your personal files, such as documents, pictures, music, etc. up on Skydrive from Microsoft site for free.   Then you will have 25 GB of virtual space to store and access your personal files.

In addition, you can always add a second hard drive to the computer.  All computers are shipped with the ability to install secondary hard drives.

If I remember, I saw a 1.5 terabyte of hard drive for sale online on Newegg for about $ 50.   But you will not need such a big big hard drive and I don't think that xp can manage a large hard without him being re-partitioned drive.

However, as you can see, the hard drives are pretty cheap now a days.

There are also portable hard drives as well.   If your pc has usb connectivity, then you can so simply plug and play one of these types too.

By the way, if you decide to add another hard drive, be they internal or external, inform people of the store that your operating system is XP to make sure that the device is compatible.

    Hello

    ·        What operating system is installed on your computer?

    ·        What is the brand and model of the system that you are using?

    ·        It is specific to a particular Web site?

As it is the recovery drive partitioned pre, and it was created by the manufacturer to expand you would need to get in shape. I suggest you to contact the manufacturer for support. You should not save files or data on the recovery partition as it is only meant to recover the operating system if something happening time.

Microsoft has a huge Gallery of themes and wallpapers which you can see here:

    Background screen Windows Gallery

And you can also use your favorite search engine to find images to use also.  Just looking for pictures and when you see one that you like, right click to save it.  Later, you can go where you've saved (probably your photos or download folder) and right click any image for "(définir comme fond d'écran)."

  • Help! How to get more memory?

My computer always indicates a not enough space on OS C.  Have done disk clean up, deleted files and programs, but said still is not enough memory.  What can I do else?  Please instruct me in layman's terms, as I am not the most computer.  Thanks in advance for any help.

Space and memory are two different things.

    Space vs memory explanation

When it comes to a computer, there are so many computer terms like MHz, RAM etc that people may find confusing, gigabytes. Having a better understanding of some of these terms can help you feel more comfortable using your computer and ultimately get more out of him.

A lot of people I talk to seem to be apologetic about their lack of knowledge. It's too bad people feel this way. they shouldn't really. What I tell them is that, although they do not know as much as I do on computers, there is nothing wrong with that, and they probably know a lot of other things that I don't know much.

What you need is someone who takes the time to explain things in a way that makes sense.

A term many people confuse memory or RAM and hard disk storage space is. RAM stands for Random Access Memory (don't worry, you do not need to remind that!).

It's a temporary workspace, the computer uses to get the job done, which gets emptied when the computer is turned off.

Think of it as a work bench or table. You have a project that you are working on and do you your project on the bench and when you're done, you delete it off the coast.

The disc is the main place of your computer uses to store information. It looks like a rectangular metal box containing a hard drive (as opposed to something like a CD player where you can remove the drive).

It's a disc inside the drive that stores everything on your computer - each photo, each music file, every e-mail and every Word document. Not only that, but Windows or Mac OS X, the operating system that makes the computer run.

To continue our analogy, think of it as a set of shelves where you store tools or materials for your project when you want to work on something, you choose the things you need on the shelves, put them on the bench and working on the project.

It of like when you run a program; the computer to load the program from the hard disk in memory (the temporary workspace).

So more shelves, plus you can store - that is to say programs more can you install, the more songs or photos or videos, you can save on your computer.

Most people with a computer in the last years are tougher than they will ever use. Few people ever the charging, unless they hold a large number of large files such as audio files or images or video files in particular.

A picture is worth a thousand words, they say. If it's true, video is worth at least 1 million words and files can be that much bigger!

If someone tells you that you have need of more memory, or your computer gives you an error to be low on memory, this usually means that you don't have enough RAM. This can significantly slow down your computer.

Consider the idea of bench again: If your bench is very small, you can't hold it need make your work, so you are constantly losing time move a piece of the project to the bench to make room for the next piece... If you really work at all.

The RAM and disk space are measured with the same terms: bytes, kilobytes (KB), megabytes (MB), gigabytes (GB), with newer drives even being measured in tera-bytes (to). As the RAM and hard drives are measured in the same way, it is perhaps one of the reasons people are confusing the two terms.

You don't need to understand exactly what these terms mean, but understand that each of them is essentially a thousand times larger than the previous. So a kilobyte is 1,000 times the size of a byte, a megabyte is 1000 times larger than a kilobyte, a gigabyte is thousand times later than that and so on.

The reason you buy a computer, one that has a lot of RAM and two or three years respect and all of a sudden someone tells you that you don't have enough memory, because every year, size average programmes and the amount of memory they need, expands.

It's as if the tools you use on your Workbench continue to grow each year in order to have afterwards get a larger bench.

If your computer seems to work more slowly recently, or if you have had bizarre mistakes, it could be that you need to upgrade your memory. This is not always the source of these problems, but RAM is cheap these days and add to what your computer can add life to your Mac or PC.

I hope that this clears up the meaning of these terms the basic computer for you and makes much more sense than before! To learn more about the RAM and memory, read related article that explains how RAM affects the speed of a computerand more.

I need to restore windows 8 parameters, but I want to save my app save data and possibly the apps them selves so I don't have to re - download. can someone tell me how I can do this. Nothing is complicated if you can give step by step instructions.

Well, I finally found my answer. {Thanks to dingl I was just looking for information about apps apps not metro, and sorry to burst your bubble but Bennet recorded metro apps stores data file is c:\users\{username}\AppData\Local\Packages\{packageID} if you are able to create a backup of your backup data. to restore the file later. It is also a way to app data backup by setting up your cloud services and it will automatically install with your backup files to all the devices that you open your Microsoft account. Even if it is complicated, you can also get a paper copy of the metro app downloads. http://www.wikihow.com/Access-Metro-Style-Apps-Installation-Folder-in-Windows-8 . in any case thanks for trying to help and I get more information to help me look for the answers.

How to make more information on the user connected such as NAME, ID, first NAME?

    And the second question:

How to store the value of the field 'ID' in table 'ADM_USERS' in any table with the 'IDUSER' with objects of entity created in application scope?

    Concerning

    Darek

securityContext.userName returns the value of the 'U_NAME '.
How can I get more information about the user logged as NAME, first NAME, ID?

    You can not.

    You need to query DB.

How to store the value of the field 'ID' in table 'ADM_USERS' in any table with the 'IDUSER' with objects of entity created in application scope?

Record this value in UserData structure so it will be available in the model. http://andrejusb.blogspot.com/2012/05/solution-for-sharing-global-user-data.html

Then use as default expression for your objects of entity attributes (something like: adf.userSession.userData.yourUserDataVar).

  • Adding space to store data after DAS RAID expansion

    Hello all,.

I was browsing and found some jobs, but never a direct answer to my problem, so I hope someone can point my research in the right direction, at least.

I have a server (Dell 2950) with a matrix of drives RAID5 4 direct-attached storage.  I installed ESXi 4 (as a default value, possible stock) on this subject and have used for a while.  I decided that I needed more space, so I added a record 5th in the matrix RAID (via OpenManage).  I am now trying to use this space, but hit dead ends.  On the properties of the data store, when I click on the increase, it doesn't give me a measure to increase with. (See screenshot, attached, ignore the NAS1 data store, it is not related to this).

From my reading of the post, I think that my problem is that I don't have this new space in my table in one of my partitions.  And since I have already 4 partititions (stock ESXi config as far I can tell because I don't create manually a), I can't add another partition.

Here is my complication to my problem, I'm not a Linux guy, so I will try to understand both a > what I do exactly and b > what are the linux commands to do so.  Can I use SSH to access a console.

I think what I have to do is either remove that #4 (what is this thing anyway?) of extended partition and then add all my new space as a 4th partition or expand this 4th partition to incorporate all my new space.  And then I think I need to format this partition as VMFS.  Then, #1 question: am I right on what do I do here?  Question #2: Someone can get me on the right track to find the exact command/syntax to do?

The other bad news is that it is a production box.  The good news is, I have very good before you start and working out of hours possible backups.  I could just save it, wipe it all out, start over and restore, but that will be my production box down for a few hours for you (in the middle of the night, but I'd still like to avoid this if possible).  I prefer to do over time much less down, and I think that there must be a way to do that, certainly, I can't be the first person to never weant to increase the DAS storage on a box of ESXi... Wipe-out/restoration is my backup plan in case I just spoil the process...

    Any help is greatly appreciated...

    Jim

You don't destroy your store of data through this approach. Everything that do you is delete and re-create the (larger) VMFS partition using fdisk. It won't hurt to the data on this VMFS partition (unless you change the boot block).
