Hi Bruce
Thanks for the quick response. I have actually had copied favorites of Documents and Settings in My Documents I had too much data to back up. I copied the files to My Documents/Favorites on the Documents and settings/favourites and all is good!

I found several articles on how to import bookmarks, but they refer to "Manage bookmarks" in the bookmarks menu and the option does not appear in version 11. I prefer not to re-create all my favorites, and they appear not in a friendly way when I pull up the HTML file to use.

You try to import bookmarks from another browser, or a previous installation of firefox?
To import from another browser, simply click on the Firefox button, then click the arrow next to bookmarks, then click "show all bookmarks". Inside this window, click on "Import and backup" and click "import data from another browser. Follow the instructions in the wizard.
To import from another installation, use the same window, but instead click "Import from another browser" click on each backup restore or import from HTML (which never have on hand).

How to import bookmarks to Firefox Firefox OSX Win7?
How to import bookmarks from Win7 to my firefox OSX?
Firefox supports two different Exchange formats:
- 'Backup' - fuller (like canned food tags) - JSON format once restored, replaces all existing bookmarks in the browser
- 'Export' - compatible with other browsers - HTML format when they are imported, is added to any existing bookmarks in the browser
Check out these articles and see if you can get the bookmarks when you need:
- Restore backup bookmarks or move them to another computer
- Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file for backup or transfer bookmarks
- Importing bookmarks from an HTML file
To physically move the bookmarks file, you can use:
- removable media such as a USB Flash drive
- storage cloud, for example, Dropbox, or an attachment to an email to yourself
Finally, you could consider implementation service of Firefox sync if you want to keep the two Firefoxes synchronized. It is not necessary for a one-time transfer.

Basically, the Bookmarks imported for IE8 is displayed correctly under 'Bookmarks', but when I activated the personal bar, the button has been added, but says "blank"... I did the whole process 3 times; same result... Need help!
You may need to manually move the bookmarks in the bookmarks toolbar folder if this folder is currently empty and you have IE Favorites folder "From the Internet Explorer" in the Menu folder bookmarks.

I am currently using Firefox on my desktop or portable 38.0 and need to import my favorites of the laptop on my desk which also has Firefox 38.0. Please provide details on how to perform this procedure.
Thank you

Pretty simple and easy, not only are there alternative methods, as is often the case in computing, but different methods produce different results.
Aid articles have more complete explanations with step by step instructions and screenshots. You have the choice of four methods depending on what you're trying to reach. Ask you what set of bookmarks is the largest and most complex?
Import and export of the a.)
This adds bookmarks. It spikes on the existing ones. (For example, if the laptop: unsorted, folder of bookmarks and bookmarks are now additional folders in the existing desktop bookmarks menu.)
Useful to simply do what you asked: export the Favorites of the laptop and import those on the desktop.
However, if the office is new and has only a few bookmarks on it, but the laptop has the major then consider- Export of the desktop as a HTML file.
- Backup of the laptop to create a .json file
- Restore the .json laptop on the desktop file.
- Follow-up to import HTML file
- Office has now all the bookmarks of the laptop, as well as his own originals
See
- Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file for backup or transfer bookmarks
- Importing bookmarks from an HTML file
(B) backup and restore
This procedure by report written all existing bookmarks. He retained the structure of folders and bookmark labels. Ideal if bookmarks of laptop are the only ones that you care. Or combine the two methods, as suggested above.(C.) manually replace the bookmarks and the historical database.
Not what you asked but that also gets the history information.
This is useful if you often rely on the addessbar acting as the awesomebar- Backup and restore Firefox profiles information
- Awesome Bar - Find your Firefox bookmarks, history, tabs in the address bar
(D.) sync
An alternative is to use Firefox Sync. Who should ensure that the laptop and the Office have the same bookmarks.
However if you do this save your bookmarks manually before the first sync bookmarks. I highly recommend that if synchronize you bookmarks you make regular manual backups too, because Sync itself can sometimes corrupt and duplicates of bookmarks. (If you do not notice this corruption quickly you can't have automated bookmarks that are free of corruption.) -
How to import bookmarks settings on computer that has been wiped with no backup.
I had to "Refresh" the system of windows due to some problems. Without realizing that I needed to make a backup of my files Firefox to retrieve my profile later, I couldn't. I'm looking to see how I can return all my settings and bookmarks with this installation of Firefox without using a previous backup. In addition, the system restore will not work, as 'refreshing' the system deletes those. Thank you.
Have you ever created a Firefox Sync account to copy your data to Mozilla servers? If this isn't the case, it would be what can be recovered on your hard drive or personal backups.
The usual kind of reset in recent versions of Windows keeps your old user folder but it moving here:
C:\Windows.old\Users\your-user-name\
You will find this file? If so, your Firefox data are probably here - and here's how I suggest to access:
First of all, it would be useful to set windows to display the hidden files and folders. This article has the steps: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hidden-files
Then click in:
Username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles C:\Windows.old\Users\
Note: you may find a cache under AppData\Local folder, but everything important is under AppData\Roaming.
Here you can find one or several folders named random semi. Who has most recently updated content is probably the one you want to restore from.
Bookmarks only
Go down the old bookmarkbackups folder and copy the last two backups in a location such as the desktop.
The restore feature will replace the bookmarks in Firefox by default (and what you added since the reset) with all like bookmarks. If you want preserve newly added bookmarks, use the first, export function before the restore, then the import function later. The following articles have details:
- Restore bookmarks from a backup or move them to another computer - to access backups on the desktop, use the command 'Choose file' menu
- (Optional) Import bookmarks to an HTML file
Success?
Complete restoration
This post has my suggested procedure to resurrect your old wide profile in your new installation of Firefox. Please note the use of the copy instead of move throughout the process. This allows you to try again if it fails somewhere along the way.
