I would use my Logitech HD Webcam C310 (USB) to import images from a film 8 mm 60 years projector to iMovie, but iMovie does not recognize the camera. FaceTime, however, DOES not recognize the camera, and it appears also in system information. But no matter what I do (restart iMovie, disconnect and reconnect the camera, restart the machine), iMovie displays only the camera, which he calls the "FaceTime HD camera."   I have a Logitech C920 webcam, and it is not recognized by iMovie.  It is recognized by Quicktime Player and Photo Booth applications and with one of these, you can save a movie that you can then import into iMovie.

  I couldn't resist the offer of eBay for the new C615 40 + $5 exp. money of shipping 30 days return back to one side most seller (148079, 99.4% positive), so I went ahead and ordered.

  I have 10.8.5, Windows 8.1, and soon 10.9 on the Mac, so after my expereince here once I've been able to gather.

  You will probably need to reload the drivers of the device and any camera control software.

  Login as an administrator.

  Double-click Control Panel / Device Manager - Imaging - writing down of the brand and model of camera.
