  If I was getting hung up on the beach towel, but you were only interested in the Duotone on the napkin images?  If so, it is indeed very easy.

  Open an image.  If you want a plain BG, then you have to select the object, and the copy in a new layer and fill with black or white BG.

  Then go to Image > adjustments > threshold

  This will have the effect to the image of the Center.  Note You can addjust point to what happens the transition with a slider in the threshold dialog.

  You might find the effect very hard and a few jaggies.  If this is the case, use a Gaussian blur to soften and if you wish, they must harden again with levels or curves.

  If you want a BG color other than black, add a new layer and fill it that color.  Then set its blending mode clarify.

  Look closely.  It should be under file > processing of multiple files.  Make sure you don't overwrite your original files.
