How to move folders to different readers user?

I would like to have all the user data (documents, pictures, mp3, downloads, Favorites, etc) not on the system drive c: - but for different users on different drives. How can I do this in Win7 RC1?
It was also easy to administer to the good old winXP...

Thanks for any help!

Hi BluesBoy,

Thanks for posting "Preparation for Windows 7" community forum.

You can move some of your files from user to different partitions.  There are a few settings that must be changed in order to redirect the registry to search for in the box appropriate for the steps.

The user records that can be moved are the following: Contacts, Documents, downloads, Favorites, links, music, photos, parts saved, searches and videos.

You can move them to partitions or storage locations, but you must select each folder one by one.

1. Select a folder you want to move and do a RIGHT CLICK.  Select Properties.  Go to the LOCATION tab.  Click the MOVE to change the location where the folder should reside.

2. in the location field, navigate to the location you want to the file resides.  Click APPLY.  You will be asked if you want to move all the files from the OLD LOCATION to the NEW LOCATION.  If you do, select YES.  If you do not select no - yes usually.

We recommend that you move your user records shortly after the installation of Windows 7 because after you have installed applications for applications and documents can stay in the former locations of your user folders. These references can cause applications not to work properly and then they may need to be reinstalled.

Thanks for posting to group Windows 7 forum.

Kind regards

  • How to move folders from program data (in locations of the library)?

The programs that I installed on my computer (for most games) did automatically their own records, mainly in My Documents, but also in my pictures, and my videos. When I move these folders regularly, the program is just another in the previous location when I start again. So my question is: How can I move these files permanently (without losing any information)?

The reason why I want to do this is to eliminate interference, and have a better system was organized. I tried to use a junction, but he left a "record of junction" where the junction was, eliminating the objective, which is to clean up and make look it more organized.

Thanks in advance for any help!

If you have configured to display hidden not folders Explorer, you can right click on file or folder junction name and select Properties. On the general tab, check hidden, then select OK.

This will hide the folder or the junction of the folder view.

    Hello

Thanks for posting the request in the Microsoft Community.

I suggest you to refer to the article and see if it helps:

    Copy and paste a file

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-in/Windows7/copy-and-paste-a-file

Move and copy files using drag and drop

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-in/Windows7/move-and-copy-files-using-drag-and-drop

If you copy and paste the files, you will not lose any data. If you are afraid to do so, you can create a folder and copy all the photos and records in that particular place. Later, you can try to copy the file from its original location to the desired folder. After the transfer of files successfully, you can delete the duplicate folder.

  • How to move folders of BT Yahoo mail to thunderbird?

I must be dense, because I do not understand the previous answers to this question. BT Yahoo email that I configured as a POP client, but I can't find where my 'local folders' are stored on my drive. If I connect on BT Yahoo mail from another computer I can still see my 'local folders' in the email client is how this POP? Then my email folders stored on the server of Yahoo and there is nothing local on my PC? If my email files is stored on the server and I configure Thunderbird as an IMAP client, I see all my folders? Sorry to be so dense, but most of this makes no sense to me.

If you set up IMAP you will see whatever files are on the server. This is how it works.

  • How can I move the folder of my users on a different Partition?

Hi, I recently bought Windows 7 for my PC.

I want to know how to move my complete record of users (C:\Users) to my D drive partition, that make (D:\Users) and then remove the users from the C drive folder, so that all my files and user data are stored on my D drive partition, since my C drive is for the OS and drivers only. Now, I know that you can move files within your name in the users, by right-click folder and clicking on the location tab, but this option is not available on the users folder itself. If it is not possible to move all of the users folder, find at least one solution where I can move my folder by name (C:\Users\Jord) D drive instead.

    Thanks in advance

because I couldn't get some apps to work reading under my username, I created a new user and they work, but I don't want the two users.  How can I mover everything of the old user to the new user?

Sign in with your administrator account, go to C:\Documents and Settings and you will find all users. Copy the files/folder that you want from a user and paste to the other user. For example, you can copy files from C:\Documents and Settings\User1\Desktop and paste to C:\Documents and Settings\User2\Desktop.

Care to share with us? I would have advised allows you to copy messages, no records.

You can drag and drop messages, but it's a little unpredictable. There is also a right-click then option move or copy which is more reliable.

So because there is no method of right click to move folders, I avoid trying to do this by drag-and - drop. Yesterday, I was working with a post where the user has multiple or duplicate may, records and I think somewhere along the line, to move a folder or copy had been attempted.

If you slipped and dropped files and it worked in your case, then I'm happy for you. But I wouldn't take the risk myself.

  • How can I move a folder for every user of C: / continue on another internal drive?

    Hello

I had a good read of the site, looked at a lot of pages & get more & more irritated.

I recently acquired a new PC. I opted for a 128 GB SSD to run the operating system & some programs that use a lot of processing (editing)

However, the PC also has a 2nd internal drive (3 TB) that I intend to store ALL my files on.

I don't want windows to record everything in my C: / drive, as it's a SSD & small...

I found this thread http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-files/win-7-wont-accept-change-to-default-download/9d9c90c0-e2c8-40c9-9b0e-fa2ee17086ae that looks almost like what I want, but not quite...

I want to move all the users on the c: / drive. In fact, I want to spend what is not a program!

What I have to do a folder using the method shown in this thread - i.e. do it for each of the files in the folder of each user?

    I hope not :(

Also, I heard that SSDS have a finite number of times that you can record in them.

Help, please. I have spent rather a lot of money on this machine & it allows you to respond to my needs, instead of frustrating me as much as my old vista machine did well...

Thank you for what you can offer in ordinary English.

You cannot move the 'Users' all things, but you can redirect "My Documents" to another drive... See here...

    Hi cjohnm,

You can use the 5 Lightroom Catalog and improve it in Lightroom 6, therefor all folders and collections will be identical in both version.

Open the Lightroom all holding the key Alt/Opt and select only the 5 Lightroom Catalog and it will switch to it.

Let us know if that helps.

  • How to move files between folders in Lightroom 3?

I would like to move a file from one folder to another one of Lightroom 3 (do not discuss why). I searched the net but couldn't find the answer (maybe I missed it). When I click on a photo in the grid view and then drag and drop this file into another folder in the folder Panel (for the move), a small sign more (copy) appears and a copy of the file is placed in the second folder. If I try to delete the photo in the original folder (for the move), two copies of the file are removed. I tried pressing all kinds of keys on the imac but unable to get the move to work. Ideally, I would like to move a group of pictures but can not move even one. Does anyone know how to move files between folders in Lightroom 3?

Try to select the pictures, right click on the folder target and choosing "move selected Photos to this folder.
