Original title: rundll.exe error
I checked the previous messages and can't seem to find a solution to this problem. Recently I ran 3 different scans, i.e. sbybot, avast and Malawarebytes virus. After that I ran these anti-virus programs and remove viruses, I was not able to open any more virus scanners. Every time I tried, would open a window saying "Choose the program you want to use to open this file." If I try to download a new virus scanner, it says the same thing.
When I try to open the Control Panel, add or remove programs, a window appears saying "C:Windows\system32\rundll32.exe Application not found. I checked this file on my c: drive\system 32 and see the rundll.exe file. I also copy and pasted the file rundll.exe my CD of Windows XP in c: Windows\System32
Everything else seems to work fine on my computer, and I get no message on the rundll.exe file when the computer starts up first.
Any help would be popular!

Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.
Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

Also, is there a way I can have complete control on the control panel? To activate the newly installed programs, etc. ?
Hey bud,
Please write in the Microsoft Community Forums.
According to the description, I see that the Windows Control Panel shows all the programs installed in Windows XP.
I suggest you to follow the article provided to solve the problem:

Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. Windows Control Panel has stopped working and cannot read the CD
Original title: windows control panel has stopped working
When I went to install my Rosetta Stone program it showed Windows has stopped working and then installed the program and when I put the cd in my computer saids windows control panel has stopped working and cannot read the cd
Hello
You say "Control Panel has stopped working" or "Windows Explorer has stopped working"?
Follow the steps mentioned in the article below and check if that helps:
Start the computer in a clean boot state
Start your computer in a clean boot state, and check if your computer is able to read the CD. Start your computer in a clean boot state helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem. If so, you need to maybe contact the manufacturer of the program for updates or uninstall and reinstall the program.
See the following article in the Microsoft KB for more information on how to solve a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or Windows 7:
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135
Note: After troubleshooting, be sure to set the computer to start as usual as mentioned in step 7 in the above article.
