How to play videos on Windows Media Player 11 MPs

I have several video files of format of MPs who will not play on my desktop Windows Media Player.   How can I solve this.

I read somewhere that .mps can be a file of game save to a video game.
Maybe the files are compatible with the software that created them.

  • Windows Media Center won't play video, but Windows Media Player will be?

I'm reading a video .avi with the xvid codec. I installed the codec earlier and it plays fine in Windows Media Player, but when I try to play in Windows Media Center, it indicates that one or more codecs are required to play this file, but they cannot be found. I know I would just watch with Windows Media Player instead of Media Center, but I want to watch it on my Media Center extension (my Xbox). I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate, 64-bit. Why does Windows Media Player with this codec and Windows Media Center not work? How can I solve this problem?

    Hi Slick05_1,

Thanks for the replies on the forum.

Given that the Microsoft Vista Media Center and XBOX do not play the files suggest it would need to be a codec which solves the problem or maybe file conversion which would solve the problems you are experiencing.  Since the codecs for files is not something written by Microsoft, we do not have the information for that in our system.

What I suggest is to go to your search engine preferred and in the search line and typing "is possible to play VLC on XBOX.

    WARNING:

Using third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

What I suggest also done an online search using your favorite search engine for "play MKV files in Vista x 64 Media Center" to find whether there may be suggestions about codecs or these codecs created by other organizations then Microsoft.

Please let us know if you are able to get this to work for you.

  • Problems playing videos on Windows Media Player

I o/s windows 7. It is, after seconds Congressman it starts to load the icon image type things and becomes very slow, that has a cloudy color where can not really see the photos, then crashes. Does not happen when I play music from the albums that I downloaded.

Hard to tell from the description, but have tried:

    1. run convenience stores of media player to see if they find something wrong? in "search programs and files" type "Troubleshoot" (without the quotation marks), results click "troubleshooting." Click on "programs" and look at convenience stores of WMP.

2 if this does not help, try to remove WMP, restart the PC and the replacement of WMP. See http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/26107/how-to-reinstall-windows-media-player-in-windows-7-to-solve-problems/ for more details. This can sometimes help with some problems WMP.

  • Error "TI drivers video card are out of date" when you try to play videos on Windows Media Player

I tried to convert videos using the converter from DVDVideosoft video I received a message that says ATI video card drivers are outdated. I tried to download and install the latest drivers and I got the blue screen of death. When I rebooted the computer tried to play a video that was recorded using FRAPS on WMP, all I saw is not a background image of an eighth. The sound played end. When I converted the video in MP4 or WMV and try to play the video, I got an error message that says: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The player might not support the file type or does not support the codec used to compress the file. "I tried to restore the computer to an earlier time, but that did not work.

Videos recorded using my webcam or made with Movie Maker plays very well.

Nevermind, I used a different video converter and the videos play fine on WMP.

Use System Restore to return before installing updates.

Best?  Then update that did it.  Install them one at a time, reboot between each of them and test everything that does not work now.  It will continue work you get through all the (moat) updates or you will discover what specific update caused the problem.

Not better?  The computer was probably not updates that caused the problem.

Anyway - back during the system restore/testing process and to keep us up-to-date.

  • How to rotate video in windows media player

Running XP svp3 Windows Media Player. In a file vid, first few images are OK then video rotates 90 degrees.  In another vid file, everything is rotated 90 degrees.

    Hi Richard,

You can try using Windows Movie Maker, see: http://labnol.blogspot.com/2007/01/free-video-editing-software-for.html

    I hope this helps.

  • I get a black screen when I play videos in Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center.

Until recently, all worked well for a long time. Now when you try to watch live TV or a DVD, I get a black screen with sound in Windows Media Center and trying to watch a DVD in Windows Media Player I also get a black screen with sound. The controls are there and functioning normally. DVDs are normally visible in the K-Lite Media Player Classic.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, a tuner TV of SiliconDust HD Homerun networked and a videocard ATI Radeon 4550. I have all the latest updates.

I found and tried many recommendations of the Internet for problems like this, and none helped.

The video card driver is the latest provided by ATI to Microsoft for Windows Update and is dated from 19/04/2011. I tried to install the latest Catalyst software and driver from the ATI site, which does nothing to help, and then uninstalled. These drivers provide no option to adjust the hardware acceleration.

I had an older version of K-Lite codec package installed. The problem does not change if I have the old version, the last 32 + 64 bit version or no version installed.

In Control Panel, I tried to disable Windows 7 media, reset their reactivation components and reboot again. There is nothing.

I had an older version of installed package from Cyberlink. The problem remains the same if I have the old version, the version the most recent or any installed.

I tried to uninstall all Apple software: QuickTime, iTunes, etc. There is nothing to help.

I tried to create a new user account; same problem there.

I have VMware and a virtual machine that is running 64-bit Windows 7 Professional. In this machine, I can view DVD normally with Windows Media Player, using the same physical DVD drive. I don't have Media Center set up in this machine.

Title photo: original No. in Media Center and Media Player

The problem is now resolved. I removed the software installed probably because the problem started, and Cisco Webex, which I did not need, was probably the culprit, although I'm not 100% sure.

Thanks to those who have tried to help.

It is not that there is a problem in Windows 7, it is more likely that you don't have just the installed CODEC the video file is saved with.  You will need to find a source, download and install any CODEC no MS yourself. You can use GSpot to identify CODECs used in AVI files. An alternative to downloading of many individual CODECs is to install FFDSHOW instead. Some media players like VLC and Media Player Classic also have internal CODECS and support for a wide variety of video and audio file types.
