  If you have the reinstallation CD, format and reinstall XP. It's really the way to go with a used machine.

Simply go to your settings box screensaver (in "personalization" in the control panel), select a screen saver if you have not already, choose how long you want to wait and next to that is a check box beside the words, "on resume, display logon." Check it out. Once the screen saver comes up then when move you your mouse or whatever you (or your children) must enter the password to log on. If they don't know the password they have to ask you to leave.

  You must have a separate account and then check the box for this account that says: turn on parental control.

  Thanks for your help.  I tried to implement your suggestion, and most of the time, it worked.

  I followed the path OS (C> users > Public > Public Documents and was able to copy the document it.)

  I have it pinned to the taskbar and managed to get it back and make & save changes.

  When I copied it initially the path mentioned previously it had an identical copy in the following path: > libraries > Documents > Public Documents.

  Unfortunately, when I used the button "Save" it would save the file to the location of a second, but the pinned file would go to the original OS (C... way, then recover the original unedited version.)  It took me a while to understand this.

  If I do something wrong and you have any other advice, I'd appreciate it.  But, for now, this issue has been resolved and I will so indicate.

  If I understand you correctly, you want to disable or delete the user (UAC) of your computer access control.

  You can turn off the UAC, but do not remove it completely from your computer.

  You can let on that it is one of the security features of Windows Vista.

  To turn off the UAC:

  Go to control panel > user accounts > manage another account > at bottom of the page delete the control on the use of user access control.
  It should ask you to restart the computer to complete the process.
