  • I would like to know how to re - install windows on a laptop with the product key on the back of the laptop.

install windows with the product key

someone I gifted an old laptop with a lot of things about what I don't want and stuff I want is missing. I would like to know how to re - install windows on the laptop with the product key on the back of my laptop.

or, even better, if someone could find me a way to get a disk to restore to factory without purchasing information, which would be awsome.

I thank you for your time and have a good day.

If the laptop is one of the well known brands, he may well have a restore partition.  If you do not have a manual to the user of this computer, then go to the manufacturers website and look for the documentation.  At the very least, you should be able to find information about how to restore the laptop from the recovery partition.

If the restore partition has been decimated, the manufacturer may still have available for a nominal cost of installation diskettes.

  • If I bought a computer with windows 8 is already installed (windows 8 sucks) can I uninstall it and install windows 7

If I bought a computer with windows 8 is already installed (windows 8 sucks) can I uninstall it and install windows 7? Windows 8 has to be the worst software ever. It is like going back to the iceage of computers. The LAGS and timing on is horrible. I expect right cruse, that she does not exist. It's like a person driving a car with their foot constantly on the brake.

You will first need to go to the website of manufacturers for your model computer and first find out if there are native drivers in Windows 7. A large number of computers that are preloaded with Windows 8 have no native driver support for Windows 7 by the manufacturer. If there is no native driver, you will need to consider returning the machine and buying a machine preloaded with Windows 8 Pro with downgrade rights to Windows 7 Professional. Or look through the catalogue of manufacturers for systems already preloaded with Windows 7, usually the business sector will have these options.

If you bought a laptop and you want to install Windows 8 Professional, can install you it directly or you must have a base like Windows 7 Stater license?

    Hello

The only FULL of Windows 8 Pro version would be the OEM System Builder... everything else is an upgrade...

Unlike Win 7 and earlier versions, Microsoft is not offering one COMPLETE Win 8 other than OEM package...

The difference is that the OEM version has no support from Microsoft... If you have a problem, you are on your own... Just enjoy the Forums and for any issues that arise...

Providing that there are drivers available for your laptop to win 8, it should work...

  • How to re - install Windows 7, when I don't have an installation disc

I have a netbook running Windows 7, Sony that gives warnings of imminent drive failure S.M.A.R.T.. My question is, if I replace the hard drive, how to re - install the OS that I only have a repair on the old disk partition? The drive is still readable, is there a way to copy it to the new drive (maybe by copying them to an external USB drive). I have the key to license available for re - activate.

    Thank you in advance.

Yes, if the HD is still functional, capable of error free reads and writes, you can attach a new HD in a USB enclosure and clone the drive. Download the appropriate software on the web site of the manufacturer of the car inside. Otherwise, the software is available from 3 parties. E.g. Acronis True Image (not free).

You describe the Sony as a netbook, so I guess it doesn't have a CD or DVD drive. To use suggestions from Andre Da Costa, you may have to use a plug-in DVD USB drive.  If you do, you can place the original HD in a USB enclosure to copy files from the user to the new drive. You will have to reinstall applications from whatever media you have.

  • I installed windows 8 and can not find all my favorites etc. I tried to reset, but it did not help. How can I restore my old info?

I tried to find my old firefox database files on explorer 7, but the old files I tried came because can not open or cannot be found. I tried the suggestions of mozilla help on what files contain the news but got the same results. I have reset but it did give me a few new things I've done since the installation of windows 8.

Hello, have you installed windows 8, more an another operating system on a single computer and you have any form of prior backup available?
one thing you might try is to search the whole file system (make sure to include also hidden sites) for the term bookmarks*.json - if all results appear with a date in the file name that is before installing windows, then you probably import them into your firefox profile.

  • HP Stream 13: How could I install Windows 10 on HP Stream 13 (32 GB SSD)

I wanted to install windows on my Stream 13 (only 32 GB SSD) 10. With the recovery partition and windows plus 8.1 all updates, I was left with not enough space to install Windows 10.  After a few failures, I could do this job and this is how.

My solution to the problem. This does not mean that an easier can turn up, but it's the only thing that worked for me.

    * Compleate a soft recovery to create under the proper name of a facility as posible

    * Install all updates

    * use the media creation tool to create a USB key for installation.

    https://www.Microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/Windows10

    * On another USB port, I created a copy of the system recovery (because my goal was to remove the recovery partition after installing windows 10 and save some much needed space)

    * Click on the installation program on the USB port of the media creation tool (won't start him this time and run a complete installation or windows will not recognize your key to 8.1). Follow the instructions for updating your pc.

*Somewhere here they told me that I didn't have enough space on my computer but gave a possibility to select an additional disk or USB to compleate the upgrade. I used my microSD but had the ability to use a USB key as well.  Just plug one with enough space, refresh and select the one you want.

    * Once done I was running an enhanced version of windows 10. and everything was fine.

Now, at this point my hardware was recognized for Windows 10 and I can reinstall everything that I want.

    * Personally at this point I didn't paertition of 8 recovery of windows 7 GB just sitting there.

    * I now ran the key USB made by the authoring tool of media to run a full clean install Windows 10. During this process, I was able to format the C: drive and but also the partition recovery (but not remove it yet) there are a lot of youtube videos on how to run this clean install with step by step help.

    * Once windows 10 was upward, I used DISKPART to delete the recovery partition and then went back in to disk management to extend the primary partition to fill the empty space on the SSD.  There are still a lot of great videos and messages on how to run disk management and DISKPART. Sounds rough but was very simple and very fast.

    * Finally ran all updates and followed a little HP guide on how to make sure you have all the correct drivers GP and go on a Clean install. near the bottom, you will see measures to be taken after the upgrade to windows 10

    * Now, DON'T WASTE this recovery USB you tool fact because that can always get back you to the factory settings.

    http://h20565.www2.HP.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.Oid=5071171 & docid = emr_na-c04734799 & docLocale...

Sorry if this is not clear, but when I tried to make it work, I could nto find anything with the measures to be taken and I ended up having to use USB recovery system I did over and over again to start over.

EDIT: I'm HP 13 Stream that came with 8.1 have things hard drive is not large enough to compleate the upgrade to windows 10. So I preformed a clean install to a USB port.  Now, I have 10 and it is not enabled.

NOW, I've read that you MUSST preform the upgrade first, so that windows detects your hardware and list it as valis for windows free 10.   BUT given that the upgrade was not posible I have a key windows 8.1 which is useless since there is no service to change the key of a key of windows 10...   This is crazy. These laptops are in advertisd with the free upgrade to windows 10 but fail to be upgraded.  Don't know what to do now.

I'm running a new touchscreen HP 13 stream with windows 8.1

I want to upgrade to windows 10 before I got home (before that I have to install all kinds of software and files) Obciously the flow isn't enough SSD remains to perform the upgrade.  I created a new USB thumb drive installation but worry about its use.

What I read the recovery partition which is not suppressible contains files that accesses the system. When I do a clean install, wipe the C drive (but not the partition) everything works? I will never lose the use of this space in the partition?

and finally, I used a program access to my windows key since it is located in the bios, not on a label, but I would like to know if someone else did and it does automatically detect? or they have run any potential problems.  Sorry if this is posted elsewhere, but I don't find any information at all.

EDIT!   I have a USB recovery that I can use if I have to for windows 8.1 I installed 10 from a USB Pendrive and it is another well workign now is say my KEY is invalid for this clean install. How to convert my 8.1 key a key that works for 10? I can't buy a new key from microsoft when the laptop was sold with an ad saying free updated for 10.   It is not posible to do an upgrade due to the space required for the upgrade to do its job. It is a real pain.

Well, looks as if I found a solution to the problem. Posted all the above in an editing tool. Hope this helps someone

  • How to re - install Windows 7 or roll back to Vista without a recovery disk?

I have a desktop Dell 32-bit windows. My problem is (in addition to being a fool) I tried to fix it year now I'm stuck. Initially I had Vista but my step dad son put windows 7 on it an I have no recovery disk. How can I reinstall windows 7 or vista without a recovery disc back. I have product keys, but as I said no disks. Can one in the cyberland point a real computer dumb in the right direction?

    Hello

Here are the options to reinstall on this particular machine which had Vista but it now has a damaged installation of Windows 7.

    Reinstall Vista

You have installed Windows 7, the Vista recovery partition can be destroyed, but try:

How ro reinstall from the Dell recovery partition:

    http://www.Dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/04/KCS/KcsArticles/ArticleView?c=us&l=en&s=BSD&docid=DSN_336966

    If this does not work:

This can help you (download files and make your own DVDs):

    http://www.heidoc.NET/Joomla/technology-science/Microsoft/57-Windows-Vista-direct-download-links

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

    Dell-USA:

    https://www.Dell.com/support/Diagnostics/us/en/19/nondiagnostichome

If in another country, contact the Support Dell technique in your country.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

  • Windows Installer service is missing from my Vista 32 bit. How to re-install Windows Installer?

Windows Installer service is missing from my Vista 32 bit SP2. How can I re - install Windows Installer? None of the 27 sets of update and Installer Cleanup solutions worked, a last resort option could work but it will not install without the Windows Installer Service.

I tried each FixIt option, says the problem is solved, but isn't.
I tried install Windows Installer 4.5, but it came back as not relevant to my system (because there is no previous installer to update).
Tried a number of recommended patches, but they are all geared toward fixing the problems of Windows Update not a lack of Windows Installer.
MicrosoftFixit50202.msi seems to have corrected Windows Update on my laptop but it won't install on Vista pc because there is no Windows Installer.
I ran the installation disc the option 'fix' with the original, it finished but has not replaced Installer and nothing was fixed.

How can I put the installer of Windows on my computer?  If there are files on the original drive that can be put into drive C what are they?
Someone suggested to uninstall Service Pack 2, and then reinstall, but if I have no installer of Windows that may not work. Others said they reformatted to correct same question, but it did not work.

These previous solutions have not helped:
Could not locate the installer of Windows on Vista Home Premium 32 bit.
Difficulty the installer of windows vista sp2
    code641/MSI
Failed installation error msg error 80070641 Windows update

After a month of butting heads with the refusal of Microsoft to actually help except to sell us all a new copy of Vista or Win7 at the normal price I solved the problem myself.

    1. I made a list of all my software purchased, including required registration keys, etc. and site URL for those who I don't have a disk for.
    2. Deleted registry back up on my external hard disk, reloading apparently one makes the backed up registry problems breed more.
    3. Inserted my drive from Dell to factory since 2007 and restarted. Press a key to boot from the CD. Chose "reformat hard drive' first, then when prompted hit"Reinstall"(slightly different wording on your computer).
    4. After you have reinstalled the factory disc 32-bit Vista, I spent hours 7 next installation of SP1, SP2 and hundreds of updates. Note that several times Windows Update said some updates to date has failed, but finally everything installed correctly by repeating the sequence of installation/reboot to update. There have been a few files that reported to turn off computer completely, I've shown... clicked with indicator shutdown (stop), let it do its thing until it turned off the computer and then the computer restarted manually later. After a total of 8 hours and 14 minutes as my Vista has been fully loaded, updated the installer is still intact, everything works very well and did not cost a penny.

It has been 2 days since the reformatting/reinstall. I reinstalled all my additional software without problem. System Mechanic is back in service without any prejudice to my installation Service. Seems that something is involved with .NET Framework 4 triggered a defense mechanism that caused the installer should be deleted, solved the problem of the .NET Framework from Microsoft, but it can be installed by the installer being removed to protect our computers. The question was not just with Dell computers, it is Dell support is just as incompetent that Microsoft support batch so more Dell owners were here to complain.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FYI: my mobile Samsung with Win7, the correction was easier because my installation Service has not been removed:

    1. Uninstalled all the software using .net Framework 4 (only 2)
    2. Uninstalled all .net Framework 4 bodies found on my list of programs (Client Profile and Essentials)
    3. A ran my System Mechanic to remove debris aka too much clutter and correct registry problems
    4. Laptop rebooted then ran Windows Update. All the updates installed with 3 requiring the judgment to install. .NET framework reinstalled with updates.
    5. Reinstalled my 2 pieces of software that use .NET Framework.

It has been 4 days without any problem at all. So, in my case, it's .NET Framework 4 that created and continued the problem, even if the specific audit FixIt kept saying all .NET Frameworks have been installed correctly.
