  The bridge creates and registers the UserID as Photoshop bridge preferences don't.  When Photoshop ID corrupt user preferences Photoshop may not start.   See if you can find your user id Bridge preferences folder and rename it.  Then try to start the bridge.  The bridge can create a new set of preferences for your username and start correctly.

  Uninstalling/reinstalling doesn't change or interfere with your catalog somehow. It will be there after the re - install.

I do and it then asks me to reinstall the disc 1 of CS3 that I do. But it seems to be caught in a loop. I can't go through this initial state.

  What is recommended by Adobe is to uninstall the previous version before installing the latest version.

  However, in your case you follow the wrong program, IE install cs5 and cs4 first, then cs3... I recommend to uninstall cs4 and cs5 and then install cs3, then re-respevtively cs4 and cs5.
