  To use vNetwork Distributed Switch, you need the license of vSphere Enterprise Plus.  Another version of vSphere does not include this feature.  You also need a vCenter Server license.

• Site of a host and distributed switches

  A number of geographic sites is under a vCenter Server.  Each of them have their own switches distributed, that connect to vCenter over the WAN.  It works very well.  However in a site, there is only a single ESXi host.  In this case, I'm not standardize the configuration of this host with other hosts in the cluster.  I create a dependency on the WAN for the switch to be managed by vCenter Server, because I can't handle the switch by connecting directly to the ESXi host, as I could with a standard past.

  One of the advantages of a vDS would be that I could add more hosts, and then have a standard configuration. However no future growth is expected for this site right now.

  Another advantage is that I could use the NIOC and the load based on grouping.  For now, bonds rising physical network of 2 x 10 GB are very underused, even under load max - probably less than 3%.

  The license is already here, it is not extra cost.

  Is there a compelling reason to use or not use vDS in this scenario?  Thoughts, experiences, suggestions?

  I would sound that there is simply no reason not to use the vDS.  Reasons to not use it have been elminated.

  -> Used to have is not local for recovery situations

  All you have left is bonus good reasons for using the vDS.

• How to remove Cluster hosts in vCenter

  We have a VMware vCenter 5.5 license that is about to expire, and while we re-new the vCenter license, I have to take all the VMS that are associated with a group called:

  Orlando (site) > staging (cluster) > 10.1.1.13 (home) > testbox1 (vm)

  I need to remove the (host) (cluster) above. I can do this by typing "Mode of Maintenance", which then moves the (vm) to another host in the staging (cluster). Problem is when I go out "Maintenance Mode", (pole) is placed in staging and the virtual computer is moved to the staging (cluster) > 10.1.1.13 (host). This is NOT what I want. I want to delete all hosts in staging (clutser) independently in vCenter before my vCenter license expires.

  Can anyone please explain or help me do this?

  Basically, the question is, you must remove a host in a cluster have DRS and HA.  To remove a HOST

  Put the HOST in maintenance mode - > check all VM's was able to move to another HOST, then right-click and disconnect, finally right click and delete.

  If you need to keep the virtual machine to the same physical host and you have properly configured a standard switch.

  Click with the right button on the cluster and DRS recommendation opt for manual. maintenance mode, then right click and then disconnect, finally just right-click and delete.

  All the information you have provided, I suppose there could be something in the ADAM database, which must be deleted / reset.

  The assignment of license keys is stored in the ADAM database (rather than in the vCenter Server database) and with the new installation of server vCenter on the same host (old) this may not have been reset. Please take a look at http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1015268 to see if this KB will help resolve the issue.

  Welcome to the community - I guess you access the PS6000E are configured for iSCSI or NAS/NFS, you will be able to access as shared storage long ESXi hosts can reach the unit. Because ESXi hosts will not be able to share the LUNS in use by other servers, you're going to create a new LUN for ESXi hosts.   Sorry not possible.  You need vcenter Server to use this feature.  Why do you use vds, if you do not have vCenter.  It doesn't seem to be much point.
