How to repair a virtual disk

Hi I have a VMWare Player works on Windows 7 Enterprise, my virtual machine was working fine until my host restarts while the virtual machine has been updated of BONE, now when I try to run the virtual machine, it is said: "could not open the disc 'E:\Maquina_Virtual_XP\Windows CP Professional.vmdk' or one of the Flash disk it depends.»

Reason: the specified virtual disk must be repaired. »

    Hello together,

I have a problem in the creation of a Workflow.

I want to deploy a virtual with a CustSpec computer (works fine). After the deploymente, I want to thank the disc - it's my problem.

Did anyone of you knows how to expand a virtual disk to a virtual machine?

    Thank you very much

    Marc

I have not tried this at my end, but you can try something like this:

You need create a scriptable task and the research of the class script VirtualLsiLogicController from the API Explorer. The properties that need are required to set as seen in the reference of vSphere are:

-busnumber (can be set to 0)

-button (can be set to 0)

-sharedBus (set VirtualSCSISharing.physicalSharing) / / VirtualSCSISharing is an enum type, consult the API Explorer

After you set the object above (VirtualLsiLogicController), it defined in the the virtualdeviceconfigspec object and the value of this deviceconfigspec to the devicechange of the virtualmachine context property (as previously done for adding a virtual disk).

    I hope that helps!

  • How to extend a virtual disk on WS7?

I use a virtual machine of WS7 running Win7x64 as my software development system.

He has a 100 GB virtual disk and now I try to install Embarcadero RAD Studio XE7 on that, but is greeted by a message saying that the 33.6 GB of free space is not enough...

He needs 37 a few GB.

So now that I look at my options and the first, we must somehow extend the virtual disk (vmdk file) to a larger size.

Is it possible at all the tool magic VMware or what I need to create a new record and the use of some software cloning inside the VM for Win7 to transfer the content courses like the one made when moving to a bigger real physical drive?

Looks like it should be possible so to increase the size of the car without touching the data such that the partition holding the 100 GB drive is not now the disk is full.

In this case, I use Win7 tools to extend the partition to use the full disk.

    Any advice/suggestions?

Expand a virtual disk is a fairly straightforward task. Make sure that the virtual machine have Active snapshots and then increase the size of the virtual disk by typing in its new size in settings of the virtual machine HARD drive. After increasing the virtual disk, you must increase the partition within the guest OS. For Windows 7, this can be done in the disk management interface.

Remember that when you set up a monolithic virtual disk for the virtual machine (i.e. a single hard large file), a new virtual disk will be created and all content will be copied on to this new hard file, which will have some time at the end, but it will also take the additional temporary disk space.

Since this is often not easy to understand, I usually create each disc with a slightly different size. That said, resize one of the disks (for example add 1 GB virtual disk) and you will be able to identify the disk that you want to remove.

  • How to shrink a virtual disk (vmdk file)

    I use VMware Workstation 12.1 Pro on Windows 7 x 64.

I have a virtual drive of 140 GB that I converted to stretch of prealloue (with excellent yesterday using continuum here).

First, in Windows Disk Manager, I lowered the score of 140 GB GB 70, leaving the end 70 GB unallocated (unused). So I thought it would be easy to reduce the 140 GB vmdk file to 70 GB.

I ran the vmware - vdiskmanager.exe command line with the-k option on the file vmdk from the host with the virtual machine off. Then in the virtual machine powered on, the command prompt, I ran VMwareToolboxCmd.exe fret C:\.

These two options gave me a disc that was essentially the same size than what I started with. Looks like there should be an easy way to drop that last unused 70 GB, but I can't. Which offer a suggestion?

    Thank you!

    Joe

To effectively reduce a vmdk extensible, you must be able to write to these locations with the trash.
You resized the partition - which means that the trash is outside the accessible area in writing.
    Options:
create a partition at the end of the disc, wipe it by filling it with zeros, when the partition is completely filled with zeros - shrink again and remove the fake wall when done. I suggest this order:
    Start: preallocated 140 GB vmdk
1 defragment the partition from inside the guest
    2. resize the partition to 70 GB
    3. turn off the virtual machine completely and simply cut the flat.vmdk to 71 GB with a dd command
    4. adjust the description of the measure in descriptorfile

result: a vmdk préallouée 70 GB

A mission of Service / start defragmentation of the disk also vitual if VmWare is not running. How can I disable this?

    Can anyone help?

I use Workstation 6.5.1 on a host of Vista PC.

There is no VMware service that defragments disks in the background so it must be a Windows service. As far as I know, this service is called "superfetch" in Windows 7, maybe similar to Vista

  • What is the best for data... several virtual disks or a large virtual drive?

For a VM Windows 2003 on ESX 3.5, which is technically better present? Is there more risk with one or the other or reliability?

All LUNS are presented from a raid5 san.

C: drive is its own virtual drive, as well as Swap space it's own drive.

For the data (or applications), is it better to have 6 100 GB virtual disks, or a big virtual disk of 600GO?

This is for a file server. Technically, I like to make a great record, create shared folders on this drive and space through quota management, but is was not sure if how Windows & VMWare manipulate virtual disks would be better. I need this server to be as reliable as possible as he is currently serving about 600 people.

    Thank you.

    Hello

I would say it depends where the VMDK is stored, if they are on several data stores then you could see benefits, but if they are all in the same database and then a grand is the best.

  • Reconfigure the virtual disk using OpenManage of RAID 0, RAID-5

I apologize for the spacing.  I'm having a little wrong with this forum edit my post.

My small business has had a T610 run for a few years with the following configuration:

    T610 Server

    PERC 6 / i controller

    4 physical disk 1 TB

    Virtual disk 0 size 1 800 GB RAID - 5

Size of the virtual disk 1 992 GB RAID - 5

Virtual Disk 1 was running Exchange and everything else on VD 0.

Last weekend, I had a breakdown of table flat due to the failure of a damaged drive on Windows SBS 2008, who couldn't recover. When I contacted support Pro and got a new drive, I was told not to recreate the same virtual drives and use one.

The local tech and I have been quite underlined and used the Perc 6 / I BIOS to recreate the exact configuration. Then, we had to use Backup Exec 2010 to restore the data. Somehow, we have selected by mistake instead of RAID 5 RAID-0 on recreation of the two virtual disks.

So now, I have the following configuration in OpenManage:

    Virtual disk 0 size 1 800 GB RAID - 0

Size of the virtual disk 1 992 GB RAID - 0

I called Dell and gave instructions in OpenManage on how to reconfigure a virtual disk by adding a physical drive and conversion to RAID-5. My problem is reconfigure is not an option in the dropdown menu, I am told, because I have two virtual disks that have stripes.

I have the ability to drive to go to 1 single virtual disk, given only Exchange is on the second and I can move, then unmold Virtual Disk 1. So my plan is:

    Full backup tape.

Move Exchange off the drive sitting in virtual disk 1 to disk on virtual disk 0.

    Remove the virtual disk 1.

    Add a 5th physical HD.

I hope at this point OpenManage will then give me the option in the drop-down list to reconfigure Virtual Disk 0.

The option to Reconfigure in OpenManage will appear after that he sees only 1 virtual disk?

    Hello

    KRoy66
The option to Reconfigure in OpenManage will appear after that he sees only 1 virtual disk?

Yes, the ability to reconfigure should be available as soon as you remove the second table off readers. Technicians are you talked with correct you cannot reconfigure a table in slices.

I know that you went through the entire process of relocation and restoration of backup, but it is preferable that do you it again. Let me explain why your table has been configured in this way, and why you may need to reinstall again.

There are limits on the partition. To create a partition more of 2 TB, it must be TPG. In order to boot the system from a partition GPT Board must be set to UEFI mode. The problem you will encounter when trying to create a large RAID 5 is that you will not be able to use more than 2 TB of it. You create a new table in slices to use the extra space.

If the system card is already set to UEFI mode then you should be able to convert the GPT partition and expand to necessary to hold account space. If you have installed the operating system with the system of administration established on the MBR can change in UEFI and conversion of GPT likely to cause BONE to be unstable if you are able to boot on it at all.

I think you need to save yourself a lot of hassle and do this upgraded correctly. I know it will be a lot more time to restart, but you should set the UEFI boot mode, remove the two RAID 0, create the new large RAID 5, reinstall the OS and then restore the backup.

Do it right now probably will save you a lot of time.

    Thank you

  • Reason: The specified virtual disk must be repaired. Running on MAC

    I NEED HELP.

I'm new to mac and am a nood. I am running the latest version of vmware fusion, os and windows 7.

So my computer crashed and I had to force stop. VMware was running in time with windows 7, now when I try to run windows 7 I get this:

Cannot open disk ' / users/user/Documents/Virtual name Machines.localized / 7.vmwarevm/Windows 7.vmdk Windows' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on.

Reason: The specified virtual disk must be repaired.

I went online and tried the two ways that forms said to fix, went to the Terminal and tried to fix the vmdk but kept getting the disk must be mounted?, so I tried to use an older version of vmwares support program and that has not worked.

So I eaither need to know how to fix the vmdk or it go to mount so I don't understand this error, or if there is a way to trasfer my programs which crashed windows to other windows I installed it, (Aso 7)

the path that you used seems to be badly formatted - use quotation marks around the file names with spaces and do not mix slashes to backslashes

don't know - this forum software does not display paths well so you can have it is just - just new doublecheck
