• 301 redirects - how long to keep old site hosting go?

  Hello. We have a company that is about to rebrand itself, so it gets a new website and a new as well domain name, both are sites of Business Catalyst. I did some reading on this and think that I know everything that I have to make about 301 redirects, etc. in order to not lose search ranking. One thing I'm unclear on if, after placing the 301 redirects to direct traffic to the new content to the site, how long the old place accommodation had to be kept going? I read 3 months to a year to keep the 301 redirects in place to ensure indexing.

  I plan to redirect 301 pages from the old site to the new site and then after 3 months (assuming that any good) drop the former host of site (only for reasons of cost at this point) and add the domain name to the new site and will forward it to the new domain name. Can anyone confirm that this is a healthy approach to please, or let me know of any problems they see in my simple plan.

  3 months should be plenty. Make sure you submit the "Change of address" form within the webmaster tools. I think that Katherine Anderson recently made a Sandpile BC on it.

  There is an option in the configuration... Plug the new TC on the network... TC WAN in all that is the current main router. If it's the old big TC.

  Open your Mac and go to the airport utility. (Your Mac must be Mavericks or later)

  Click on other WiFi devices (1) in the upper left corner... It will start the installation wizard.

  The wizard will choose the wrong thing... to extend the old TC's wireless... Do not worry.. Click more options at the bottom left.

  

  List of other Options choose, replace an existing device.

  

  The rest works basically automagically.

  The new TC will take the old values of TC... the old TC will be given factory.

  The end of it you will say to remove the old TC and plug the new TC in its place... voila... piece of cake... walk in the Park.

  You can then determine what you do with your old TC.

  You can publish the new site as the catalyst for business trial. Once the site is ready to be powered, you can republish it to your existing URL via Muse itself.

  This will replace the current live site.

  In case you do not want to delete the current site online, you will need to remove the domain from the current site and add it to this site has been published.

  The previous version will be accessible by business catalyst URL.
