How to restore a Firefox refreshed all bookmarks to an external hard drive?

I've just 'refreshed' Firefox and lost ALL my passwords, even if the instructions said that they would be saved. I tried to copy it in the folder of old data from Firefox and it does NOTHING. I have all the data I need on an external hard drive and the ability to navigate (already found my Firefox profile on the backup drive) and to copy and paste data from this drive on my C drive. Please tell me EXACTLY how to transfer my favorites for the latest version of Firefox. I have YEARS of bookmarks that I can't AFFORD TO LOSE. I'll be more than happy to just restore my old profile even if that slow Firefox. It would be a small price to pay, but I must have bookmarks in return. Help, please!

Hi, in case bookmarks trying to open the profile folder, then find the folder called "bookmarkbackups". Use the most recent file to restore bookmarks menu favorites - all bookmarks - import and backup - restore.

Hello.  I just got a new laptop from HP windows 8 and you want to restore a back up I took my old HP laptop on an external hard drive.  When I plug the hard drive, the ups return display in the file Explorer, but I can't find a way to restore the backup to the new laptop, the only option I can find is to know how to put in place to save on the hard drive and restore the files that I've just saved from the new laptop.  There is nothing really on the new computer laptop so it doesn't matter if I lose these (and they are now saved when even!), its mainly pictures and iTunes on the back up, a few old excel & word files I think.  When I click on Explorer the external hard drive in the file, there is a PC owner icon that shows a folder named Backup set & the date, he didn't save folders of files for various dates, in the most recent are the backup files 1 & backup files 2, from 2012.

How can I get these on the new laptop?  I can't take another back up as the old laptop crashed and lost everything, where the need to get this back up to the new computer.

    Hello Jacq,

Thank you for visiting Microsoft Community.

As described in the question, I understand that you are unable to find a way to restore your backup of the old computer stored on an external drive on your new computer windows 8.

In earlier versions of Windows (Windows 7, Vista), you can use Backup and Restore to back up your files or create and use a backup or image system repair disc. Windows 8 and 8.1 gives you choices on how you can recover your PC and backup your personal files.

You can use the file history to back up the files on your PC in Documents folders, music, photos, videos and office and the OneDrive available offline on your PC. First of all, you need set up a historical file player and turn on the history of the files. For more information, see set up a drive to the history file. If your original files are lost, damaged or deleted, you can restore them. You can also browse and restore different versions of your files. For more information, see to restore files or folders by using the history file.

How can I make the best use of a new external hard drive and a new catalog full of photos just loaded into Photoshop elements 14 Organizer?

Keep all the files on external hard drive image?  Nothing else and no pictures on the desktop?

Keep all image files both places?

What is the best way to go through thousands of images in the Organizer to identify and place them in files?

Once I've placed a file, I just leave it in the entire catalog or a way indicate to me that it has been sorted?

As overwhelming, any tips/shortcuts/schemes, you can offer are welcome!

As I only have the version of the EP, here is some info on the organiser:

    https://helpx.Adobe.com/Photoshop-elements/how-to/use-elements-Organizer.html

Independent of how this feature works, you want to have your photos in one place and have a backup (second copy) somewhere else. All hard drives will not be successful at some point - some more early, some late - never trust to have your files in any safety devices if they are on a single disc. Once you have your sorted, it would be useful that you will organize/name/tag new photos immediately if the task is relatively short and simple. I copy my photos on my internal hard drive for my camera, take a quick look with preview to see who needs some changes and then decide where to put them - either drop them immediately after naming them or bring in an editing application and then file them away.

  • How to import bookmarks from an external hard drive?

I exported my favorites from firefox on an external hard drive. Now I have a new laptop, but do not know how to transfer these back to firefox bookmarks.

It is no different to import from a hard drive on your own machine. The external hard drive has a drive letter on the same way as a HD internal.

Just use the reverse procedure, you made to export the file i.e. choose "Import HTML" instead of "export HTML".

If you saved it in. JSON format, then choose 'Restore' in the menu "import and backup" instead.

  • How to backup my bookmarks on an external hard drive?

Original title: hot to save my favorites on an external hard drive

probably one simple question to others, but I would like to save my favorites on my external hard drive. How do I do that?

Assuming you are asking about Favorites in Internet Explorer, the following comes from Internet Explorer Help (and then search for "Export Favorites").  It describes how to export your Favorites to a file:

Import or export favorites in Internet Explorer

Favorites, also known as bookmarks, are a convenient way to organize and find webpages that you visit frequently. If you use Internet Explorer on several computers, you can save your Favorites from one computer, and then import that list to another computer.

    To export favorites
Follow these steps on the computer on which you export your Favorites from.

    Click to open Internet Explorer.

Click the Favorites button, click the arrow next to the add to Favorites button, and then click Import and export.

In the import/export settings dialog box, click Export to a file, and then click Next.

Select the Favorites check box, and then click Next.

Select the folder that you want to export your Favorites to and then click Next.

By default, Internet Explorer creates a file called bookmark.htm in your Documents folder. If you want to use a name other than bookmark.htm file or store the Favorites exported in a different folder, specify the new file and the name of the folder.

Click Export. If you already have a file of the same name, Internet Explorer will ask you to replace it. If you want to replace the file, or click on no and enter a new file name, click Yes.

    Click Finish.

    Note
If the folder you select cannot be written, as the Documents of another user folder, the export will fail. Repeat the export with another folder.

    To import favorites
Follow these steps on the computer that you want to import your Favorites to.

    Click to open Internet Explorer.

Click the Favorites button, click the arrow next to the add to Favorites button, and then click Import and export.

In the import/export settings dialog box, click Import from a file, and then click Next.

Select the Favorites check box, and then click Next.

By default, Internet Explorer is important from a file called bookmark.htm in your Documents folder, but you can tell it to import favorites that are saved under another name. Click Browse and select a file, type a location and a file name to import, or click next to accept the default value.

Select the folder where you want to place the imported Favorites, and then click Import.

    Click Finish.

    Notes
To share or transfer Favorites from one computer to another, export or copy the Bookmark.htm file to a disk or flash drive. You can then import your favorites of the disc or the flash drive on the new computer.

Favorites from previous versions of Internet Explorer can be imported in this version.

To print your list of favorites, open Bookmark.htm in Internet Explorer and then click Print.

  • How to backup Mac without Time Machine that is erasing external hard drive?

    Hello

I'll put in my computer at the store to have the battery changed and to back up my computer. Only got 1 external hard drive and 80% busy, I can't really destroy the entire disk to back up my Mac with Time Machine. I also fear that I manually back up aka. copy and paste all the files, things like iTunes or Photo Booth will not read data from the library when 'restored' aka. copy and paste again and so I have to start over. What should I do?

Thank you very much for the help!

If you have more data on your MBA to amount of available space on your external HARD drive, you will need to:

1 remove data to the external HARD drive to make room.

2 delete the data on the MBA.

    3 a combination of 1 and 2.

    4. use another external HARD drive.

    Ciao.

  • How to use on another mac iTunes library stored on external hard drive - on cable network

I recently bought a new iMac. I used a time machine to the top to move all files my new computer. I still want to use my old iMac as a media server for my network. The main iTunes library is located on an external hard drive connected to my old iMac.  I don't want to move all these files to my new iMac media because they are large enough.

I sync all my families phones/ipads on this new iMac and of course difficulties with finding them their music/songs etc. When I contacted apple support, they had me move my iTunes library to my new iMac. Now phones are able to properly synchronize and pull up all of their media. However I just duplicated 200 GB of media files. I was able to access the external hard drive to move the media. Is there a way to have my new iMac external hard accessing multimedia disc in iTunes for play and synchronize multimedia files without storing this library on my new computer?

Why not simply unplug the external hard drive and move it? And I don't think so. You can use home sharing to access the library and the Wi - Fi sync iTunes by following the instructions in the link.

Share your iTunes library on your home network - Apple Support

Synchronize your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch with iTunes - Apple Support

  • How can I access my Microsoft Virtual PC on an external hard drive with Windows Virtual PC on my new computer?

For a few years, I have been using a set of VPC on external hard drives (.vmc files both .vhd located on external drives) with the Microsoft Virtual PC/Virtual PC Console on a Windows XP computer. They worked perfectly.

However, I just bought a new computer with Windows 7, and I'm unable to access the VPC on the external hard drive. I installed successfully, Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP mode on the computer, and I copied the file to the host machine's .vmc. However, when I try to open the virtual computer, I get a message saying that the VPC was "impossible to write in one of its virtual hard disks.

I've tried everything I can think of, but the only thing that works is to copy the .vmc and .vhd in the computer file. The problem is that I use the VPC for training online, and I have 16 of them. If I copy everything in the computer, I will use all 500 GB of disk space.

There must be a way to access the VPC for external drives. If I can do it on the old XP computer, it should be possible to do it on the new Windows 7 computer.

    Help, please.

    Thank you!

  • How will I know if my back up to an external hard drive worked?

    Hello

I completed a back up of my external catalogue of Elements12 of a hard drive but when I try to view them that they were recorded in all sorts of different ways. Some of them are from GOM media files that will not open at all.

Some say SYNCDB or CACHE or PREF files that tell me I need an application to open, others are for XML Documents that show only the lists of data. The list is long...

Open OK in program elements, but how can I know if or not he saved everything if I can't open or access these files that elements copied to my hard drive?

I'm completely lost. Before I had items that I simply copied my photo folder and video of my HDD ext and everything worked, not messages saying: this file needs an app or this video file could not be opened!

    Help

The most important thing to understand is that backups of the Organizer are not mere copies and they can only be used by the restoration of the Organizer function.

So, the simple answer is that you should see the message at the end of the process, stating that the backup was successful.

If you're skeptical, I fear that the only way to 100% is to do a restore and see if everything is ok.

One thing I always do (and recommend) is to see if you can find a file named "backup.tly". It is the last created and contains everything you need to restore your catalog and your image files, even if you choose to restore to an alternate location.

I'm completely lost. Before I had items that I simply copied my photo folder and video of my HDD ext and everything worked, not messages saying: this file needs an app or this video file could not be opened!

You can get a copy of your folders of photos, but this is not enough. You must also have a copy of your catalog records (location: menu help/information system). And if you are restoring to a different computer, which is not enough either: all your files will be shown as disconnected... good luck with the reconnection process. Believe me, use the backup/restore of Organizer system, at least when you want to migrate to another computer, disk or operating system!

Since we are never too sure about backups, a good solution is to use your preferred regularly copy or sync system AND to make the full organizing backups periodically or when you want to upgrade.
