  How old is this TC... because it is several years now since apple produced a TC with a small disc.

  You can connect a larger drive to the USB port on the TC and use as the target for a computer.

  Problems with this are mainly to do with the reliability of USB... you need to get the right player... TC can be a bit tricky with USB drives. I'm in the middle of test this for someone else. A USB key will work for a day or two... It is always recognized by airport utility, but it is NOT without a reconnection.

  The internal drive is much more reliable... So open the TC and replace the drive with a larger drive... to the top and 4 TB green drive can be used... but then the TC being so old he could die tomorrow.

  It is not easy if you try to do with it. In the end, plug in a USB drive directly into the computer and make backups locally is much more reliable and much faster to use a backup network for a TC.
