  Upgrade to maverick should have no impact on the way you used to save these files as soon as possible.

  You can select Save from the file menu and select adobe illustrator as save type. And in the file saving options, you can choose to save file compatible with earlier versions of Illustrator.

I can add a link of this type on a topic page, but I don't see how to do this in the table of contents.   I did some research and a file ending with .odg is an OpenDocument Document OpenOffice/StarOffice (Ver 2) of graphics by Sun Microsystems, Inc.    This means that in order to open this file, you will need this program to open it.  You will not be able to open this file with Vista.
