  The gradient is transparent, so you can see the edges of the image through the slope, especially since the image is cut off on the edges.

  Try to move the brown color on your gradient slider further to the right as it mix better with the image, you may need to add more mixes not so. Soften the edges of the image as much as the edges are not so difficult.

  Different ways to do it... but without seeing an image of what you are doing then I would suggest that.

  First SNAP TO GRID.

  View > Snap To > grid

  Then

  Edit > Transform > distort

  This will allow you to move the corners and stretch the image.

  It's actually pretty easy, but I have to assume that you know a few basics in Photoshop

  (1) open your existing image

  

  (2) double click on the layer and the 'layer style' appears. In the mix if area set the sliders so the whites in the image disappears

  

  You will be left with just the black elements in design

  

  (3) duplicate layers

  

  and merge them together

  

  to give a standard layer

  

  (4) ctrl or cmd click on the layer to select and create a layer mask

  

  (5) you now have a mask of the image. Duplicate the layer, click alt or option, click on the layer mask to call

  

  (6) the blacks and the whites are not completely black and white for the use of levels to adapt to the absolutes

  

  (7) now you have to decide what you want to select. In this case, I chose the lettering and simply covered everything else to the top with black. You do this by lasso selection and fill and items when it's delicate brush just the details with a black brush "hard." .

  

  (8) at this stage, you can do what you want you have a layer mask. So you can color the text for example

  

  or place in a background color and apply a layer as Beveling effect

  

  Hope that makes some sense. It is much easier to do than to describe.

  I want to fade the edges of an image to match the background of my blog, so the image is not a boring rectangle. You can see the main image here and see what I mean... it looks like a generic blog header with the blocked image.

  I tried to use the tool degraded, which I've used to create a reflection effect of ads and others, but had no chance in this project because it isn't spread evenly across on all sides. I consider even a rough more, as when you use the spray, to blur the edges.

  Blurring the edges of an image is in fact very easy...

  1. take the rectangular selection tool and create a selection just inside the edges of your image.

  

  2 click on the layer mask icon like before to hide the edges of your image.

  

  3 then double-click on the thumbnail of the layer mask to bring up the Properties Panel - drag the slider of the feather to your liking.

  

  I hope this helps! I'm sure that action is available online, but this is a really easy way to achieve this effect in feathers.

• Soften the edges of the isolated 'product'

  I have pictures of products (pieces) I want to isolate the background. The quick selection tool, I can select the background and make it white (or transparent maybe?)

  But that leaves the party with a relatively rough edge (almost as if it's not anti-aliasing). One thing I can do manually, is add a blur on the edge, but it seems that there should be a better way to soften the edges. Maybe some kind of anti-aliasing around just the edges or something? I don't know what would be the approrach for this standard. It seems to be a fairly common thing to want to do.

  What version of PS do you use?  CS5 has the feature of edge I refine my selection which will give you the flexibility to do what you ask.
