Hi all

I would like to start the virtual machine on vsphere virtual server. Unfortunatelly when I try to start it I see the message:

"You can not on virtual machine in the virtual machine.

I found a solution on google but only worked for vSphere4 virtual server.

Thanks in advance

Always the same answer. You must edit the .vmx for your servers files virtual vSphere.

  • How to develop a player for the virtual server when no more space is available on the data store?

    Hello

    I have a 'vSphere4.1 - Intel"cluster with lots of available data stores.

In this group, I have a virtual server "Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP2" with 7 discs, all with the ' base' type in the server disk management. ""

One of the drives needs to be expanded, but in my VMware environment, I noticed that the data with the reader store, cannot be stretched beyond, so I need to take the free space of hard drive to another store of data with free space desired.

    Now to my question:

Can I make a new record in my VMware environment on another data store and fix it on my Windows 2003 Server? - And if so, how do I add the new free space on the server specific hard drive?

    Kind regards

    Carl-Marius

    1. close the virtual machine in question

2 remove the HARD disk that you want to extend

    3. in another data store make folder and move the VM HDD (vmdk) in this folder

    4. now change the settings on the virtual machine, add need HDD now this time, select "use the hard disk" option and point to the VMDK file in the other data store

5 - turn on the virtual machine, check that every thing is okm if ok you can do the HARD disk as dynamic disk is easy to expand

    6. now incerase the VMDK from vsphere client,.

7 now, with the help of utilities such as partition magic or acronis or utility, you can extend the player

  • How to see the models VI3 on Virtual Server 4.1

    Hi all

    I'm migrating my old infrastructure VI3 (ESX3.5U5) to a new vSphere 4.1 a.

That I create a new database on V4.1 I have to disconnect all virtual Center2.5 ESX3.5 to connect tp Virtual Server 4.1.

I have a lot of templates on each ESX3.5 but when I reconnect the ESX3.5 to the Virtual Server 4.1 I don't see all of my models.

    Any idea?

    TKS for your help.

If you browse data warehouses using the browser to store data, you should find all your models here.  Once locate you them, right click on the .vmtx file and "add to the inventory.

For an overview of all models 'zombie', you can use RVTools (tab Vsante)

    Your guest is running?

Try to use "127.0.0.1" or "localhost" instead of "suseserver".

  • How to migrate virtual machines from the virtual server MS in Lab Manager?

We migrate our environment. So primary question is - how to migrate our MS VirtualServer VMs to Lab Manager?

    BR

    Hello

Have you tried using using VMware vCenter Converter?  It can take Virtual PC machines and turn them into VMs VMware (.vmdks), you should then be able to manufacture models of VMware virtual machines, import them into the Lab Manager and voila.

  • How to program a restart of a virtual server of VI?

    Good afternoon

    I use VI Server 2.5

The hosts are always 3.0.2 61618

In the days where I had a physical server of VI, I used the feature tasks scheduled to stop or suspend all virtual machines based on our shared storage server when the storage server required a reboot. Then I had the power of the virtual machines themselves up after half an hour.  Now, my server VI is also a virtual machine.   I can't clearly use to power comes back on.

If I set it to stop, it will be? Or trying to cause then it will become unstable?

    How to plan to restart?

I tried the VI Client pointing to the host, but there is no scheduling Manager in this configuration.

I can use the command line

    VMware-cmd & lt; cfg & gt; beginning

    But how to plan who?

I also thought to use storage vMotion to move the VI server to assigned storage, however it must be turned off to make the part storage, but has to be supplied to do at all.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

    -Magister

    How to plan to restart?

ESX easy start up, you can set it up in ESX / Configuration / start & stop.

If you want to program at a specific time you must understand how the cron service in the service console (see/etc/crontab).

For example, to poweron it every single day at 6:30, you can create a new line with

    30 6 * root start vmware-cmd

  • How to find the size of the virtual server?

    Hello

We intend to pass our applications 4 virtual servers has 2 physical servers. In this process, we need to identify the size of the current virtual servers to use as a starting point to configure or add the size in physical server. can anyone provide information on whats stats to be noticed and how to find the size of the current virtual servers?

    Thank you

    Hi Sekhar, there.

in general, it is a fairly complex task if you want to size the new platform correctly, i.e. not to oversize it and have very low use below, i.e. spend too much on equipment.

In fact, it's the first thing to consider the level of use of the new platform. Most likely your organization (HW and infrastructure) has targets to a minimum. optimal and maximum usage levels.

In the case where you do not have this as a starting point, and then you continue with load average and the current peak (CPU, RAM, NW). To these basic lines, you can use the statistics of WLS Admin Console, where the use of CPU and memory statistics are presented since the server was last started. For more detailed statistics, you can use WLDF to capture measures key at regular intervals, and then base your analysis of these data.

Finally and above all, the size of FS, but I've seen some comments above related to the size of the FS.

  • How do I know the thrue VSphere ESX Server?

    Hi all!

I have an ESX 4 server. I can connect with Putty, but the web server is not configured.

The ESX seem to be connected to a server for VSphere.

Is it possible, through a connection of PuTTY, to know the name or IP address of the server BSphere?

    Olivier

I guess when you say vSphere Server, actually talk you to vSphere vCenter that vSphere is simply the family name composed of 4th generation of vCenter and ESX (i) products, etc.

Anywho, yes it is possible, there are probably a few ways to do this (via newspapers, etc.)

    And here are two:

    (1) using the Console of Service of ESX classic

    Take a look at:

    /etc/opt/vmware/vpxa/vpxa.cfg

The result will be something like:

A.B.C.D # ESX Service Console IP
    E.F.G.H # vCenter IP

    (2) using the API vSphere ESX or ESXi

If you know how to use the API or managed object browser, there is a property that is ONLY defined if the host ESX (i) is managed by vCenter server defined by managementServerIp http://www.vmware.com/support/developer/vc-sdk/visdk400pubs/ReferenceGuide/vim.host.Summary.html

As we mentioned above, you can see newspapers go or vpxa so that should also have address discovery.

  • How to convert an old windows 2000 virtual server?

    Hello

I need to convert a physical windows 2000 server to a virtual, to be run in an esxi.

I see vCenter converter 5 or 4, but my os is not in the supported platforms.

    Can you help me?

In this context, 'Windows 2000' also means good Workstation and Server. We did (with a Windows 2000 Server) with Converter 4.0.1 a few days ago.

  • How to start a Virtual Appliance of in vSphere Client

Have the vSphere client connected to the server VCenter, with two hosts.

Everything works fine - VMs can be created, moved, everything.

I would like to make a new virtual machine from a Virtual Appliance.

I have already downloaded (Ubuntu 10.4 Server VA) and uncompressed it.

All the files are there ready to use, on the same computer that is running the vSphere Client.

Don't know how to use the AV.  I can start going in VMware Player, but it's not my goal.

You want to set up/start them in vSphere Client, and then migrate the GOES from one host to another.

    Thank you.

Since the files listed, it looks like a picture of work/drive station. What you can do is to use VMware vCenter Converter Standalone to convert the virtual machine to your ESXi host.

  • Free version of ESXi can support for configuration of start and stop virtual machines via vSphere Client?

I have read and found some documents on ESXi.

According to the documents, I know that ESXi free version does not support some advanced virtual machine configurations and does not support write to ESXi host permission. But when I download ESXi from vmware.com, I can't find the free version. He will always be a trial of the licensed version edition because I can always do the configuration of start and stop virtual machines via vSphere Client installation. I can also run scripts (lamw) pl in vMA to stop the ESXi host (authorization to write ok?)

Then I confused. How can I get the really free version of ESXi? Or will the free version after 60 days of evaluation?

Start/stop above configuration is in vSphere Client via 'Configuration'-> "start/stop VM"-> "Properties"... «-> "Allow the virtual computers start and stop automatically with the system" actions setting and stop virtual machines can be configured to "comments"turn off computer"or"Suspend".» Can any body tell me if it's supported by ESXi free edition?

Is the free version of vSphere Client too? Because when I use the vSphere Client, he told me that I have 60 days of evaluation. This confused me again. I think that vSphere Client is always free, am I right?

Any suggestion or advice is much appreciated.  _

    Micky

Configuration of start and stop virtual machines is available with the free version and licensed, with the free version you would be configured everything via vSphere Client, where as with a licensed version, you can optionally use scripts to configure it and also issue restarts/stops using scripts.

Second, shutdownHostViaSOAPAPICall.pl for the version licensed and free of ESX (i), this script will work in both free and licensed because it uses direct SOAP calls emulating the vSphere Client communication. Take a look at the documentation for details, but this of course is not supported by VMware.

  • How to set the vlan native on a virtual machine in vSphere when you use the 1000V?

Using the General switch original vSphere, we put VLAN native by VM by setting the VLAN 0 d.

How do we set VLAN native for a virtual machine, if the virtual computer is connected to a 1000V? I heard that is over, we can use VLAN ID 0?

Same way as you would on any Cisco switch.

Add this command to your profile of uplink port:

    switchport trunk vlan native X

Keep in mind there is no VLAN 0.  VLAN '0' is just how vmware means the VLAN untagged.  There are valid in accordance with the standard 1-4095.

  • How to resize a virtual machine using vSphere client

    Hi all

I have a virtual computer on an ESXi 4 server but I am not able to resize. So far I have stop the virtual machine in vSphere client, selected the settings then went to Hard Disk 1, Disk Configuration section everything is gray so cannot be changed. The type is listed as thick and the version of virtual machine is 7. How can I go on the increase in the size of the disk of this virtual, or any other machine also?

    Thank you

    Jamie

Remember that you cannot increase the size of a disc if there is a snapshot, but if the option is gryed out, it looks more like a permissions issue.  You do that connected directly to the host of ESXi, or through vCenter?
