How to take ownership of a folder

All the experts for you help,

I trying to claim a record like below but failed.

"Right click on the folder you want to take control and then click Properties.

Click the Security tab, click Advanced, and then click the owner tab.
Click on change. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Click on the name of the person you want to give to the property.
If you want that person to be the owner of the files and subfolders in this folder, select the Replace owner of subcontainers and objects to check. Click OK. "

However, if I try to provide all these files in a folder, one by one, then I can do it.

The problem is, I have hundreds of files and video etc. to support. How can I do in a faster way. How to remove the problem of the property forever.

Thanks for reading

All permissions will be replaced if you click Yes.

Note: folder_name is the name of the folder you want to take charge.

6. click on OKand then reapply the permissions and security settings that you want for the folder and its contents.

Additional remarks:

  • An administrator can take ownership of any file on the computer.
  • Affecting the ownership of a file or a folder might require that raise you your permissions using user access control.

Hope this helps you with your problem of file/folder. Let us know anyway. Make it a great day!

  • How to take ownership of the folder in a mobile USB drive.

I created the files in my old PC Windows7 and the restricted share. But my old computer broke and I bought the new Dell with OS windows8.

Now when I connected my mobile drive to my new computer I could transfer all the files that were not limited. But I can't display or transfer a file that had reduced the share to protect important files.

So, how do I take possession of the file and transfer the files to my new PC. My old PC is no longer available.

    1. Right-click the folder, click Properties.
    2. Go to the Security tab, click Advanced.
    3. Change the owner to yourself (your account on the new computer).
    4. Click OK until all boxes are saved and closed (which is important, you can't continue until you completely OK and close all the dialog boxes).
    5. Back to properties and security.  This time, the owner will be you, so you can finally change the permissions to access.

  • Claiming ownership of a folder

I have trouble to get a game to load. The technicians of game says I should claim ownership of the file folder. How do I with Vista?

To view your permissions, right-click on the file/folder, click Properties, and check the Security tab.  Check the permissions you have by clicking on your user name (or group of users).  Here are the types of permissions, you may have: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-are-permissions.  You must be an administrator or owner to change the permissions (and sometimes, being an administrator or even an owner is not sufficient - there are ways to block access (even if a smart administrator knows these ways and can move them - but usually should not because they did not have access, usually for a very good reason).)  Here's how to change the permissions of folder under Vista: http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-vista/set-file-folder-permissions-vista/.  To add take and the issuance of right of permissions and ownership in the right click menu (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/05/21/take-and-grant-full-control-permissions-and-ownership-in-windows-7-or-vista-right-click-menu/.

To resolve this problem with folders, appropriating the files or the drive (as an administrator) and give you all the rights.  Right-click on the folder/drive, click Properties, click the Security tab and click on advanced and then click the owner tab.  Click on edit, then click on the username of the person you want to give to the property (you may need to add if this isn't there - or maybe yourself - it doesn't have to be the person that you are logged in as but must not be connected as an admiistrator).  If you want that it applies to subfolders and files in this folder/drive, then check the box to replace the owner of subcontainers and objects, and click OK.  Back and now there is a new owner for files and folders/player who can change the required permissions.  Here is more information on the ownership of a file or a folder (it's what you really want): http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html.  Add appropriate right click menu (which will make it faster to get in once it is set up - I did the my system to simplify things in the future)), see the following article: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/.

Normally, when a folder is created, the user name that created the file is registered as the owner - so if the game is eager to create a new folder I don't know why this step is necessary (unless it's one he wants ownership of and then you have to be careful because you don't want to compromise your security or yourself locked out from other programs with files in the same program follder).

Good luck and I hope this helps!

  • How to take possession of the hard drive since the upgrade to Windows 7?

I've upgraded to Windows 7 from XP.

Unfortunately I can't access all the files on my old hard drive that is on my computer as drive E, nor I can access all the files on the external hard drive USB either. He says that access is denied. These readers are related to my old account on my XP system who crashed and died.

How to "properly" take possession of these other drives on my new Windows 7 system?

Previously, I tried to do with my user name on the Windows 7 system to have all permissions. It does not work. It changes the attributes of all files and folders on my other readers but once everything is done, I still have the same problem and I am unable to access it.

I also tried to use a program called "edit permissions" and who did the same thing and I still have the same problem. No method worked.

Please Microsoft, you designed these operating systems if please explain to me how to take full ownership and control hard 'MY' in my XP system discs so I can access all the 'MY' files and folders?

    Thank you.

    John

    1. In 'My Computer' (or simply 'computer' now), click on the drive and choose Properties.
    2. On the Security tab, click Advanced.
    3. On the owner tab, change the owner to be your username (you will need to search for and select your user name).
    4. Apply the new owner to "all subcontainers" (all files on the disc).
    5. Click OK until all of the settings are saved.
    6. Try to explore the disc again.

In other words, I need the value of property in order to set permissions, but I can not because I do not have the required permissions.

Just for the record exactly where and under what name is this folder?

    Hello

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community.

You can use cut and paste to move files of music from the library of images in a directory of your choice, or in the music folder.

You can use the "save under" downloading music files so that you can choose the location of your choice, or in the music folder.

    It will be useful.

  • How to take a screenshot using Windows 7 screen

I'm using Windows 7 Home Edition. I want to take a screenshot of the homepage of MSN in 31ish Firefox and Internet Explore 11ish to show the difference that I see. MSN.com Firefox display is so bad on my PC that I had to go home pages at http://www.twcc.com/ . I prefer to use MSN.com as I always until they came out with their "New and improved" MSN.com.

So, if someone can tell me how to take a screenshot using Firefox 31ish MSN.com Web page, I would appreciate the help. Then I'll go to forums on how to do the same thing with the Internet Explorer browser. Then, I'll post the two shots in the Mozilla's Support forums to see if I can find how do Firefox works better for me. Thank you.

The current versions of Firefox have a built-in feature to take a screenshot as the one of the commands on the toolbar Developer (SHIFT + F2; Firefox 3-bar menu button > developer or tools > Web Developer).

You can use it if you need only a screenshot sometimes because you must use a command line and can't click a button or use the context menu.

    • A quick way to save a screenshot is to press the 's', and then press the tab key to accept the suggestion of AutoComplete screenshot.
    • You can press the F1 key for context-sensitive help with suggestions where you can select an entry with cursor key and press Tab to copy the entry in the command line
    • You can type a space and two hyphens (-) to see the list of command options and use the Tab key to copy the selected highlighted (for example, fullpage or Clipboard) in the command line entry.

Note that some commands have their own options and you can type two hyphens at once to see additional options.
