How to tell if your Scanner is not

A Scanner failure occurs when the scan components to address a problem. These problems can be caused by several problems, the two main internal/external electrical malfunctions or scanner bulb problems.

Often the errors may differ on your product. You can have a scanner failure if you see one of the symptoms of follow-up or errors:

  • "Power off and on" the printer or "failure scanner power market.
  • "Scanner system failure.
  • "Can not make copies or fax" or "unable to scan, copy or send a fax.
  • "Scanner failure, power cycle.
  • Scans and copies to produce a document all black.
  • Scans and copies produce vertical lines.

Sometimes, the problem cannot be solved with troubleshooting and must be repaired, at other times, you can solve the problem by troubleshooting documentation or following.

  1. Make sure you have the latest firmware installed. This can be done from the front panel of the printer on some models or is available on the pages for the product HP customer service. HP customer service
  2. When scanning/copying lift the lid of the printer a bit and look to see if the scanner light is on. If it is not the bulb may need to be replaced.
  3. Make sure that the printer is plugged directly into an electrical outlet, not a surge protector. Surge protectors can sometimes prevent a sufficient current to reach the printer and can cause problems with the digitization of parts requiring more electricity. If it is already plugged into a power outlet, it is sometimes best to test the printer in another room that uses a different circuit. It allows to isolate the problem to a faulty plug incase.

According to the error or problem, you will need to try different items of troubleshooting or steps:
