How to transfer all files in macbook pro to external hhd

Hi, I get a cell phone issued by school (MacBook Air 2015) next week. I currently have a Macbook Pro 2012. I'm not allowed to transfer my data to the macbook to schools. So I wanted to have an external hard drive that I could connect and select to start my computer.

How should I do this? Should I use Migration Wizard or Time Machine? Also, I need the instructions step by step for them.

Thank you

Get an external drive, you can connect to your computer and the school's computer. It will probably use USB 3.0. Connect the player to your computer and then clone your drive to this external hard drive:

Clone El Capitan on a new disc

  1. Restart the computer. Immediately after the chime, press Command - R until the Apple logo and progress bar appear.
  2. When the Utility Menu appears, select disk utility and then click on the continue button.
  3. Loading disk utility, select the disk (usually, the entrance Out-bumpy) in the list aside.
  4. Click the Partition tab in the main window of disk utility. A panel will fall.
  5. Set the GUID partition scheme.
  6. Define the type of Format Mac OS extended (journaled).
  7. Click on the apply button, then click the fact when it is active.
  8. Select the new Seagate drive and then restore in the edict of disk utility menu.
  9. In the drop-down list, select the volume you want to clone.
  10. Click apply to start the process.

Take your clone and try to start your computer with it:

With the help of boot OPTION key:

1. reboot the computer.

2. immediately after the ring, press and hold the

Key 'OPTION'.

3 release the key when the Boot Manager appears.

4. Select the icon for the external drive of clone.

5. click on the arrow under the icon.

If your computer starts successfully on the clone, then you should be able to start the computer from the school. User the Option boot even that above, but once you start computer school you must set your external drive as boot drive using the startup disk preferences. This way, you need to use the Start Option.
