Try the removal tool appropriate to your version of Vista the following: http://www.avg.com/us-en/download-tools.

If that doesn't work, download and install Revo Uninstaller: http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html and run in Advanced Mode to see if it works better to uninstall the program.

I installed a trial of avg vertion, seeing that I have only 22 days of free trial, I changed my mind. enter in the add ons and tools, disable AVG has no effect. There is no AVG not found in Add/Remove programs.

  • Vista: Can I stop/uninstall AVG before you run WU?

I have an eMachines T3616 with Windows Vista Home Edition, put 2 GB RAM, 120GB HD, AMD SEMPRON 3600 +, Internet Explorer 7.0.6002.18005CO and free Antivirus AVG 9.0.862 upgraded. I don't have a product of firewall-Windows Defender.

I couldn't update this machine, probably dating from some time in 2009, because after running Windows Update as specified, it hangs during reboot it with fan CPU clocked at a constant high speed and finally stopped apparently by a fail-safe in the material to protect the system against damage from overheating. Only after a long process of repair of the start and am system restore I was able to start using the system normally, even if the problem is exacerbated by the fact that we can not properly keep the room where the computer is kept at the right temperature and moisture.

I also had problems in the past, when, using particularly heavy-CPU-using applications, even in many cases Internet Explorer, the fan on the CPU at those hours will also work, and in rare cases, stop the system is on top. (I have for the most part mitigated these problems ranging in Power Options and reduce the maximum CPU power, although of course this tends to compromise performance).

I saw elsewhere that AVG might be the cause of the restart problem, and unfortunately I start other problems ('abandoned operation' error on Web sites, for the most part) that the 'experts' insist only can be fixed by upgrading to Internet Explorer 8.

If I have to completely uninstall AVG for updating the machine without encountering this problem, or could the anti-virus product just be temporarily disabled before execution of WU?

Or is there another system problem or hardware I should be addressed?

I suspect that you see the effects of a long-standing infection hijackware, Bob.

But since you are now lack more dollars a year of critical security updates, it would be a waste of time (yours & mine) and money (your own) trying to get this cleaned up computer.

    See...

Personal data backup (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then format the HARD disk and do a clean install of Windows. Please note that a repair installation (upgrade AKA on-site) will NOT fix it!

HOW to do a clean install of Vista: section "If you want to reinstall Windows Vista by running a new installation...". "of http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Installing-and-reinstalling-Windows-Vista

NOTE: If your computer came with a set of disks, there is a hidden partition restore (not to be confused with the restoration of the system) you would use to do the clean install (AKA a "destructive recovery").

After the new installation, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" in order to take care of EVERYTHING on the next page before connecting the machine to the internet or one local network (i.e. other computers) AND BEFORE to plug in a flash, SD card, or any other external drive to the computer otherwise:

Tip: After completing the computer fully patched, download/install KB971029 manually before connecting any player external to the computer: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971029

VERY IMPORTANT!-online Any Norton or McAfee free trial which is preinstalled on the computer when you bought will be reinstalled (but invalid) when Windows is reinstalled. You MUST uninstall the trial for free AND download/run the removal tool appropriate prior to installing the updates, Windows Service Packs or IE upgrades AND BEFORE installing your new anti-virus application. If these procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, good reputation and stand-alone computer (that is, not BigBoxStoreUSA or Geek Squad) repair facility.

Wish I had better news for you. Good luck!

[1] I STRONGLY recommend that you do NOT install the AVG (or any Norton or McAfee) application next time around! If cost is a factor, I can recommend Microsoft Security Essentials (free): http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/default.aspx

  • How to uninstall and reinstall norton security

I have Norton Security for 5 devices and put one on my new iMac, but when I click on advanced customize it does not open.  Nothing happens.  I was hoping that if I uninstalled norton and reinstalled then it would work.  I tried to uninstall norton, but he said it did not with the OS systems.  Nobody knows that I can either get advance to work so I can use the settings or how to uninstall and reinstall?

    Thank you

It is not recommended to install antivirus on Mac applications unless you want a computer unstable and crashing. OS X is extremely secure and must be kept up-to-date to stay. AV, cleaning or ANY other third party are tools to keep the OS X works well are a total waste of time, energy and resources system.

Click here and follow the instructions, or if you do not delete rather manually the adware, launches MalwareBytes for Mac.

MalwareBytes simplifies the process of removal of adware, but does not stop it or other malware from entering the computer. It should not be invoked to prevent future incidents; Instead, avoid downloading software from sources other than the Mac App Store or Developer Web sites.
