Ubuntu 9.04 on NB100

I have rather a complex network here and tried to get the version of Ubuntu 8.04 to work with it without total success. Everything was healed by installing remix 9.04 from a USB key, and the machine now works fine apart from the following problems.

1. the activities feature keys do not work. Those relating to his show the on-screen display following the keys correctly, but they do nothing. With other things like the wireless is is more controlled by the forces nouvelles or disable keys and nor is there any screen.

2. I'm not sure about the power management or the mode control fan or processor (not sure if it has reduced consumption). The system log contains messages such as "ACPI: unable to turn cooling device.

If it's a Windows system, I would look on the Toshiba site for drivers related to power management and keyboard, but there doesn't seem to be much in the section Ubunto download area, and likely he would bring on the Hardy version rather than this flippant one.

Y at - it no guidance anywhere on how to proceed?

I also installed 9.04. Works almost perfectly. See also here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupport/Machines/Netbooks
Fan-controll works, but the symbol does not appear on the screen. Other function keys work: sound, sound on / off, brightness... Skype works (micro and cam).
A question I have is that the symbol of a USB key mounted, allowing you to take it apart,
is not displayed on the desktop of remix. Another that the nautilus window is not maximized automatically.
I'm always pass between 8.04 original and 9.04.

    Hello

I think that you should just grab the laptop because it's the easiest way to solve this problem starting Ubuntu.
Other workarounds would be too difficult and would take as long as a simple recovery.

Recovery if the NB100. The procedure should t take long.

    Check it out!

  • Ubuntu update killed my NB100 sound

As a complete newbie to Linux, I ran the driver update process Ubuntu and now my sound card is no longer recognized.

I tried the Ubuntu forums and there is an okay waiting for Linux. Can someone help me in words laymans?

If not, should I install XP on the device and go where I feel comfortable.

    Andy

I wanted to just wait for the next update, they are normally quite frequent. Looking for newspapers (the console by typing dmesg) looks like there is a little problem with the drivers:

SND: disagrees about version of symbol struct_module
snd_hwdep: disagrees about version of symbol struct_module
snd_page_alloc: disagrees about version of symbol struct_module
snd_timer: disagrees about version of symbol struct_module

They just need to update that and everything works again. I wonder if this line just before it has nothing to do with it:
    Initialized drm 1.1.0 20060810

Looks like a niggle Toshiba/Canonical need to sort.

  • NB100-11R - WiFi modem disappeared

    Hello

I am a complete novice when it comes to Linux/Ubuntu - so I hope someone can help me in relatively simple language here.

I have a Ubuntu running of the NB100-11R.

After a recent update ubuntu my wifi Modem has 'disappear' from the GUI.

In short, since the GUI administration / network in the Connections tab Services I now only see the Options for "Setting up a connection" & "Connection point to point" where I already had a WIFI option.

I guess it is something like a driver who need to reinstall, but I can't find the details very grateful if anyone has indications.

    Kind regards

How can I make the ubuntu remix in my NB100 accept my USB what file system is NTFS?

    Happy if someone can help.

    Hello

On Linux systems, you are able to read the NTFS file, it should work without problem.

If you want to write data to an NTFS drive, you need a driver.
Search this Web site. This could be useful for you:

    module:

This problem occurs when you use the menu of ubuntu GUI written by toshiba, I think, because if you use ALT - F1, everything goes fast.

    Hello!

It is a known issue on Windows systems. If you n t use the WLAN and connect to the local network and you have active DHCP it will takes a lot of time on start up because the operating system tries to get an IP address from the DHCP server.

Try to assign a static IP address, and the problem should be solved.

  • NB100: upgrading the BIOS to 1.90 in Windows XP edition family, now Ubuntu freezes on login

As the said line topic. I've updated the BIOS on our NB100 to 1.90 in Windows XP, and now Linux (ubuntu) freezes on login. We organize one machine dual boot and WXP still works fine. Ubuntu freezes completely when you open a session and full charge of gui.

I suspect that the network hardware is the issue.

Any ideas? The bios can be restored to an earlier version? I have not found on this site.

    Dan

Perhaps a BIOS setting was handed to the default or changed.

Try to set the SATA mode in mode "Compatibility" or "IDE".

    Hi all

I have a Toshiba NB100 with Windows XP and I'm trying to install UNR, I tried to boot from a USB USB Kingston Datatravel or of a LiteOn CD/DVD external and it does not start. I changed the BIOS settings to boot from USB and cd/dvd and nothing happened yet.

    Hello!

I know on this laptop it s possible to boot from a USB stick so I m wondering what it doesn t work.

However, perhaps that the USB drive is not bootable, or they are some missing files to boot from it. I m not an expert of Ubuntu, but maybe this Wiki article is useful to you:

  • Ubuntu 8.10 on the NB100!

My machine me am a bit messed up with experimentation, so as I had nothing to lose, I tried loading 8.10. It seemed to go very well, with the exception of video drivers that would only run at 640 by 480 pixels. It however (not numbered drivers) support the sound, wireless adapter and added Mobile support to wide band that comes with the 8.10. A suffered a bit of a small problem with 8.10 update that hang to the power down forcing me to remove the battery to turn it off completely, but this must be a work around. Reloaded 8.04 will now have to be able to reuse the beast but I felt it was a useful experience, especially since the restore disc works so fast.

I have played with Ubuntu for a year or so now but am not up to speed in the mouth so I feel obliged to ask those who have more knowledge can video drivers transferred to 8.10 8.04?

Most importantly our friends at Canonical can see their way to the port of that some of these features in 8.04 please because it's the LTS version at present.

    I'm a PC, what Windows?

    Congratulations to all.

The drivers are still available, the only difference is there are updates.
Maybe that they are in the Synaptics package somewhere Manager, otherwise try to site archive upgrade Ubuntu.

If you ask for Cononical keep things in any further distribution of the operating system, Ubuntu Brainstorm would be a good website to do this on.

  • NB100 - how to set up internet dongle on Ubuntu?

    Hello

I just got this and try to set up for my mom but having a bit of difficulty and I was wondering if anyone can be useful

She has a dongle t mobile Internet, which she wants to use with it (operating system on the NB is ubuntu) but he does not like a normal computer would recognize just the driver automatically.

So I was wondering if someone could help me as to how I've implemented

You must find the Linux drivers for this dongle.

First, find the manufacturer and model of the USB device.
Second, google that model number and 'linux driver '.

If you don't see the model number on the Flash DRIVE itself, you may need to plug it into a Windows PC and discover its device ID in Device Manager.

  • Update breaks sound on Toshiba NB100 (NBR of Ubuntu 8.04)

My netbook ran a batch of updates yesterday, including a new kernel, I think that (2.6.24 - 27-lpia) and the result is no sound (everything seems to be fine). there don't seem to be able to find sound devices. The start of the previous kernel (2.6.24 - 24-lpia) seems to fix the problem, but of course, this isn't an ideal solution.

    Is there a solution?

    Thank you
    John

You think it can't happen twice, but it has and I can confirm that. Install easypeasy 1.6 if there is no solution for this problem. I tested the beta version installed on the usb memory and it works well.

  • NB100 - cannot boot from USB pendrive

    Hello

I wanted to try out Ubuntu netbook remix, so I downloaded and it loaded in my key USB of SB after making the md5sum test. Then I fixed on the boot order so the usb port would start first and rebooted my Toshiba NB100 with the pen drive inserted. When I start my netbook the first screen where you can press F12 and F2 for BIOS freeze for about 2 min then start windows.

I use a Kingston DataTraveler 4 GB USB key, I don't think it's the USB because as its bootable on my other laptop.

    Thank you.

    Hello!

This only happens with the USB or without USB too?

Have you tried another USB key? At the moment for me it sounds like the USB key is not compatible with laptops or isn't working properly.
Can you please try another USB key?

    Good bye

  • The default root password factory NB100

Anyone know what the default root password factory for a NB100 with Ubuntu 8.04 installed.

There is no password for root on Ubuntu, the root account is disabled from direct and interactive logins.

The first 'ordinary' created user will be in the "admin" group, and so after cutting as a normal user, you can use "sudo" to run commands as root temporarily.

    I hope this helps.
