How to upgrade virtual center

My virtual centre is a bit back on updates because I don't know how to do it.  I just need to download it from the website and install the update?  If so, can I just install the last update or should I install the updates in order?  I've updated ESX to the last update, is that going to cause a problem with the virtual center update?

Here is a link with all the steps for updating vc

So, is the solution to my problem. How to upgrade?

    Hello

First of all it is a user to user forum and you won't find anyone from Toshiba.
Secondly, as far as I know that your device was designed for an American market and if you are looking for drivers or updates you must use a Web from Toshiba site we:
    http://www.CSD.Toshiba.com/cgi-bin/TAIS/Su/su_sc_home.jsp

If you have any problems with your unit, so you must contact the ASP (authorized service partner Toshiba) in your country.

As far as I know that Windows Vista is not official on the market. Maybe the end of the year or next year.
I can t believe that you are not available to install the updates. I checked a few comments and Microsoft updates have always worked.

As I suggested at the beginning if you have some problems with your unit has so contact the service of Toshiba.

  • Upgrade virtual Center 2.02 VC 2.5 on the new server. Upgrade ESX 3.02 ESX Server 3.5. and add the new ESX Server.

    Hello

We are due to upgrade our VMWare environment. ESX 3.02 x servers virtual Center 2.02 and 3.  We have new material on which to install Virtual Center and we are also adding a new ESX Server.

I read various guides for virtual center upgrade and watched questions on the forum, but can not see everything that relates to the way I thought to do. I want to install Virtual Center 2.5 on the new server and I would refer her to the current virtual cenre database.  Is this supported?

I then install ESX 3.5 on my new ESX Server and add it to the virtual Center. Then I would start the upgrade / rebuild other servers using VMotion to migrate all VM the next server to be rebuilt on the new server running ESX 3.5.

    Would this work.

What is the best way to upgrade the virtual center of new material and a new Version?

Thank you for all the advice that can be offered.

Yes, it is an upgrade that is supported.  Don't forget there will be an upgrade for your DB schema and it may take some time.  Just make sure that you have a good backup of your DB before you start.

I then install ESX 3.5 on my new ESX Server and add it to the virtual Center. Then I would start the upgrade / rebuild other servers using VMotion to migrate all VM the next server to be rebuilt on the new server running ESX 3.5.

I agree entirely, I drive rebuild is the way to go.

Upgrade to the current version using the .iso image file.  Don't forget the license server, which is a standalone update and are located in the folder /vpx of the vCenter .iso

    Upgrade path:

    1 vCenter

    2 ESX

    3 VMware Guest Tools

  • How to upgrade from Virtual Center 2.5 + SQL Server 2000 to vCenter 4.1 + SQL Server 2008 (R2)?

I plan the upgrade of an existing VMware Infrastructure 3 (Virtual Center 2.5 + ESX 3.5) to vSphere 4.1, and I'm stuck in the Virtual Center Server upgrade and its back-end database.

vSphere 4.1 is released only as a 64-bit software, so he needs a x 64 O.S.; This excludes an upgrade the existing server on-site.

The plan is to install a new Server Windows Server 2008 R2 with SQL Server 2008 (or 2008 R2 if taken in charge), migrate the database and install 4.1 on the server vCenter.

The question: How can I migrate the database?

When you perform an upgrade of Virtual Center vCenter 4.0 on-site, the database is automatically upgraded; but this isn't the case when you install a new server.

VMware provides a utility to clear the existing database and import it into a new server, but it works only for SQL Server Express (which according to VMware must not be used in medium/large production environments); If this is not an option.

I am unable to find a support procedure to perform this migration.

    Can someone please help?

    Massimo,

I just went through it and found it to be a little pain simply because I forgot to VMware document simplicity...

You are right, the 'migration' tool does support SQL Server Express, I don't know why and niether are the two VMware Tech Support Agents I spoke with.

To anyone reading this. NOTE If you perform the upgrade / migration SQL Server Express via the Migration tool you MUST check the registry DbServerType key FIRST! If it is set on Custom Migration tools will ignore simply stages of database! See this VMware KB article for more information:

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalID=1024380

Yes, it is the States 'failure', what he does not say, it is that the Migration tool will be 'Silencieusement Skip' your database.

End of Migration tools do call a standard SQL Server T - SQL backup command. YAY! You don't have to upgrade your existing 32-bit vCenter Server, do first just in case backup/snapshot, then run through the upgrade as if you were going to use the 32-bit version in production. This step will apply to any database schema change.

Build your brilliant new 64-bit server, install all of the bits and then use SQL Server Management Studio to make a backup of SQL Server 32-bit database and then restore it on your new 64-bit server. NOTE: Make sure that all SQL and vCenter services are stopped before proceeding with the backup and restore of the measures.

After the restoration of the SQL on your new server it reboot and everything will come back to life just as it is only now with all 64 bit!

    Hope this Helps!

  • How to check what database is used by VMware Virtual Center?

    Hello

I recently inherited a small environment and I was asked to upgrade ESX 3.5 to ESX 4.0. I'm not a person from the database, but how can I check what database is used by VMware Virtual Center? According to the guide to upgrade the MSDE database is not supported in ESX 4.0.

I want to just make sure that we did not use this database. I looked in the ODBC Data Source Administrator. Thanks to the system DSN, I saw that the drivers for Vmware Update Manager and Vmware Virtual Center are "SQL Native Client". Also registry editor, I watched HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-> SOFTWARE-> VMWARE, INC.-> VMware Virtual Center-> DB. Data on 'Vmware VirtualCenter' next to '1' and '4' is set to "SQL Native Client".

So, how can I determine if the database used is not MSDE?

Sorry for the stupid question, but I'm not so much with the databases...

    Thank you.

    Den...

    > So, how can I determine if the database used is not MSDE?

MSDE does not remote databases.  ODBC Open, click System DSN, click Configure.  The listed database is that it uses, and if that is the name used for virtual center, this is the database in use.

  • The upgrade of the Virtual Center 2 update 4 update?

I am currently running ESXi on IBm blades and they are running version 3i, 3.5.0 Update 2

We have Virtual Center 3.5 Update 2 installed as well.

We seek to improve our 3i to 4 upgrade ESX and Virtual Center.  I was looking through the upgrade guide, but there wasn't this listed scenario.

    My plan was to:

Take c and inplace upgrade of the Virtual Center Update 2 to 4 update server

VMotion invited out of one of our blades, then update the blade and bring guests.

Am I missing something?  Are there documents more precise that lists how should I do this?

seems good... Just get a full backup of your DB vCenter before starting.

The Upgrade Guide can be helpful as well.

Also, VMware tools for your guest will require an upgrade as well.

  • Browsing databases of Virtual Center failed: could not connect to server NFC, can any body help me how to solve this problem please

Browsing databases of Virtual Center failed: could not connect to server NFC, can any body help me how to solve this problem please

Hi Mallik7, please try the following steps, you must succeed to solve the problem.

To connect a client to vCenter directly to the ESX host error-free work.

Files/etc/vmware/config the ESX host contain the lines:

    ------------------------------------

    authd.soapServer = 'TRUE '.

    prefvmx.consolidateDeleteNFSLocks = "TRUE" authd.proxy.vpxa - nfc = "vmware - vpxa:vpxa - nfc.

    Authd.proxy.vpxa - nfcssl = ' vmware - vpxa:vpxa - nfcssl.

    ------------------------------------

This problem occurs when a carriage return is missing from/etc/vmware/config. To resolve this issue, go to edit/etc/vmware/config:

1 make a backup of this file from the path - / etc/vmware/config, by running the following command:

    CP/etc/vmware/config/var/tmp /.

    2. edit/etc/vmware/config so that there is a return transport after the line:

    prefvmx.consolidateDeleteNFSLocks = 'TRUE '.

    While he reads the following:

    ---------------------------------------------

    authd.soapServer = 'TRUE '.

    prefvmx.consolidateDeleteNFSLocks = 'TRUE '.

    Authd.proxy.vpxa - nfc = "vmware - vpxa:vpxa - nfc.

    Authd.proxy.vpxa - nfcssl = ' vmware - vpxa:vpxa - nfcssl.

    ---------------------------------------------

    3. restart the management agent spend.

Note: Make sure that you are not in your environment name resolution problems.

  • Virtual Center upgrade to 5.0 U1 4.1 on the new machine

    Hello

I don't see that this scenario in the upgrade documentation so wanted to clarify.

Have currently Windows 2008 R2 server running Virtual Center 4.1 U1 and database resides on separate SQL 2008 Server.  Virtual Center Server has been improved 3 times now so eager to make a new update for Virtual Center 5.0 on a new server by keeping the existing database.  The data migration tool cannot be used because it is only for the migration of versions prior to version 4.1 U1.

    I'll do the following:

Install a new server with new name/ip.

Install Virtual Center 5.0 and create the DNS pointing to the existing SQL 4.1 database.

-At this point is it ask me to upgrade the database?

I have problems in doing this?  Will all of my existing hosts show as offline and must be reconnected and updated Virtual Center new server SSL certificates?

    Thanks in advance.

Yes, there will be an upgrade of the DB schema, so make sure you have a good backup. Make sure that you set up the system DSN from 64 bits to the correct address and test your connection to the DB before upgrading.  Also, make sure you have dbo on the VCDB and MSDB

I have problems in doing this?  Will all of my existing hosts show as offline and must be reconnected and updated Virtual Center new server SSL certificates?

If you change the host name and IP, your hosts may be in offline / not responding.  If you do a right click on it and "connect", they should return to the inventory very well.  (you may be prompted for credentials to the root)

  • How adding script. VMX to store data (NFS) to the virtual Center

    Hi guys,.

I hope that someone much better understand the scripting languages I know a simple way to do this?

    Basically, here's the scenario...

We use data warehouses NFS running on Netapp file servers to accommodate all our virtual machines. Normally this works very well, but we had a few incidents recently with the spin that force us to move to our synchronous backups. Basically how it works is that each data store, say for example Datastore1 works normally on Filer1. This data store is regularly "synchronous" on Filer2. This snapmirror is a copy of the data store readonly. If we have a problem with Filer1, it is possible to reconfigure Filer2 to make writable snapmirror backup, effectively allowing us to see the virtual machine.

Currently, in this case, in order to get the back of the virtual machine, to remove all the vm to Virtual Center inventory, then add the synchronous data store to all guests in Virtual Center, then browse the data store and manually add back all the vm individually by the usual right-click right/add to the inventory on each virtual machine.

As I say we have recently had a problem and had to call it for the storages of 10 data housing almost 250 vm was therefore, as you can imagine quite a slow intensive task and work!

What I tried to work, that's how I could this power CLI script? I saw LuCD excellent research Add .vmx script and looks a lot like what I would like to but can't work out how to change it for my purposes.

What id' ideally like to go would be a script that I can specify an instance of Virtual Center, store data and Cluster as variables (say vcname$ = "ukvir0001", cluster$ = $ 'Datacentre1' and dsname = "datastore1") and then the script read the data store and add no matter what .vmx, it finds in the specified Cluster.

I read with interest the new feature in PowerCLI4 data store provider and which resembles something that can provide an easy way to do it I can't work out how!

Any help would be much appreciated as I have the daunting task of having to move back almost 250 vm to Filer1 now that give it has been fixed and do not have the luxury of a maintenance window several hours to do it manually!

    Thank you very much

    Sean.

After a few PMs between Sean and myself, we arrived with a working version.

Note that this latest version of the script has been tested in a vSphere against an ESXi v4 server environment.

I formatted ESX server & ESX Server Update installed keeping the data center on the storage (of many desktop computers)

Now I have fresh installed a new server of virtual & added the ESX Server, but I'm unable to reattach existing data centers on storage.

Hard shut down the virtual using the vSphere client. If it does not migrate all other virtual machines off the coast of the host, then turn off the host. When you restart the host, you should be able to remove the virtual machine as the processes that are running against her will have stopped.

    Kind regards
