  Simply call Microsoft on the toll free number: 1800-936-5700.

  Give them the product key, and they will tell you if it has been used for activation aldready and if it has been blocked.

  You should try to buy a set of disks Recovrey from the manufacturer, or to create them using the software on your computer (see your manual for details). Reinstall using the rigth software to system recovery requires no product key entry.

  If for some reason you can not do the above, see if you can borrow a copy retail of WIndows of the edition of sae as your installation - install that using the default key, then try to activate by phone and speak to an operator.   There is no such thing as a "max usage limit" (other than to be in use on a single computer at a time) for a Windows XP product key.

  There is no limit to the number of times where you can reinstall and activate the same license of Windows XP on the same PC.  Is never a charge.  No more than a product key (as long as it is not an evaluation license) never expire.  If it's been more than 120 days you finally turned on this specific product key, you will probably be able to activate via the Internet without problem.  If it was less, you may need to do a five minute phone call.
