  Model is a portable 3240 ca dv6 entertainment. BIOS is up to date with v. f.29. The parameters are super limted. About the only thng that it offers is USB boot option and scanning equipment.

  My other laptop, a probook 4510 s has a much more dynamic bios with a lot more options.

  Is there a download available for the dv6 with unlocked bios?

  I am very reluctant to use mods that I have heard many horror stories!

  My nephew had this laptop for his university studies in engineering in 2004-5 & > last year he started to give problems to start his ' WIN XP OS. When I'm here for a glance it was not possible to start, so I put a live Ubuntu cd in the dvd - rom drive & it booted up okay (it connected completely from RAM: no installation) & gave me a message that there is something wrong with the drive HARD; It ran ok in any other respect.

  The first thing I asked was the recovery CD that he should have, but they appear never anywhere I did some disk backup info (I was able to write with it but not start). I asked him if, while applying power, he had received a shock & he told me YES. So, I told him that the problem could be that some a SPECIAL section of the HARD necessary at startup disk might have gotten physically damaged, whereas he needed another HARD drive & to find the recovery CD to get the system working normally again. He never used again and found the recovery CD...

  NOTE: It took me about 2 hours of collection of the information that must appear on this post, but after trying to post receaived a sort of denial to let me do this.

  At least, I got almost 1/3 of the original info (to the point above, just before the inscription in cursive). Now, I'm tired, hungry & end so I go for it finish in a race.

  About 8 months ago he gave me just in case it was something useful in it for me. I tried with a cd live linux & it worked well, but had to enter the boot sequence screen whenever she performed POST. He was nice to me so I decided to get into the BIOS to make some adjustments, but he had a pwd that nobody was aware of its existence (the machine was taken once for COMP USA for some repairs: a thing of memory). I tried the obvious & failed. After asking in some forums received a set of not tried those & in my impatience tried > 3 times in a row & system got locked.

  I left the machine sitting somewhere for about 2 months & it started with an OS DSL to a HARD drive, in the format VFAT16 usbFlash decided the other night to give him a chance.

  I want more than just enter to the BIOS configuration thereby screens lappy, but, for the moment: someone knows how to unlock/recover the pwd say?

  Hello everyone, I recently encountered a lot of problems with my laptop (Sony Vaio series E, processor core i3, 2 GB of RAM), one of the main problems I've had is that my BIOS does recognize the drive of the laptop, so I can't do a clean install (from the windows installation CD 8 does recognize not the hard drive and gives me invited "material can't stand not the disc"). Now one of the solutions I've read online is to mod the BIOS InsydeH20 so that I can unlock the hidden settings and change the settings so that the hard drive to be recognized, however I am unable to use conventional methods because my laptop is not booting and don't show me a guest "Operating system not found" when I turn it on.

  I guess my main question is: is there a way I can make the BIOS detect hard drive because my laptop is not booting? I can access the command-line of the installation CD if it's any help, but other than that, there isn't really any other way, that I can communicate with the software. I appreciate all help.

  -Very well, so my HP desktop computer I had since 2012. I've only used for games and now I started to customize it and other things. I need my pc mainly for video editing now and it's a little slow. I will replace the power supply for a more powerful, but I realized that it has an AMD A10-5700.   I am trying to install Crucial only 8 GB DDR3 1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) CL11 SODIMM 204 pin Notebook Memory CT10246 1.35V/1.5V... in laptop HP Pavilion dv7 - 3183 cl. I have the latest version of the BIOS, but at startup, I get the BSOD. Various other forums noted that I might need to change the speed or the voltage in the BIOS, but I'm locked out. My laptop is an Intel processor and theoretically can support 8 GB modules. The HP Pavilion DV7 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service guide c02842278.pdf says:

  The 8 GB is a physical limit, it cannot be spent because that is the maximum that supports the processor of your laptop.
