HP Compaq Presario CQ42: can I upgrade cpu? HP Compaq Presario CQ42. Core i5 430 m for core i5 3320

Hello HP.
I have a question. My laptop is HP Compaq Presario CQ42 and core i5 430 m processor. I want to stretch cpu for the third generation of cpu and the fourth generation cpu. I found it core i5 3320 Mr. Peut work it core i5 3320 m cpu? It can better performance?

Hello Angaahai ;

Let me welcome you on the HP forums!

I read your post about upgrading your CPU and wanted to help.

This link is to HP for your PC product page: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/Compaq-Presario-CQ42-Notebook-PC-series/4121902/model/4149187/manuals

If you right-click on the entry of l maintenance and Service Manual, you can download this PDF on your PC.  On page 94, it lists the compatible processors, and on the next page, he begins the removal and replacement procedures.

Unless you did something like this many times before, I would advise to do it yourself.  It is very hard to do and is easy to break something in the process.  It would be better to have a business service center works on laptops do this for you.

Good luck

I'm a volunteer and I do not work for, or represent, HP.

This Forum on NECK, we discussed several times the upgrade. For best performance, a lot of people want to upgrade CPU. Update CPU is not supported, and in particular cooling system, each laptop model is designed to work with certain hardware platform.

In general the Qosmio laptops have the best material with excellent performance, so I put t know why you think the CPU upgrade. In my opinion, you should spend RAM and HARD drive. It is supported and can be done by the owner of the laptop without losing the warranty valid.

Hello, I think to upgrade my processor cpu on my windows 8 Pavilion 20, b010, an all-in-one computer, but I'm not sure because I don't know if my computer can handle it. I am looking to upgrade to a 2.5 GHz-3.7 GHz processor but not sure that my system can handle it, because one I have currently is only 1.48 GHz, so it makes me think that my pc will not be able to handle it because it is so small, and because it is an all-in-one computer , so I don't know if my cpu can even be changed. Can someone please help me with this issue, it would be much appreciated.

  • Can I upgrade cpu to i5 - 480 M i5 - 580 M of laptop Hp Pavilion G6-1007sv?

    Hello.

Please let me know if I can go from i5 - 480 M, in a faster or with better CPU performance, as the i5 - 580 M?

    I have a mobile Pavilion G6-1007sv, running on W7 64 premium.

I would also like to know if my current total memory of 8 GB (initially 4GB and improved by me to 8 GB) can be further increased to 16 GB later in the future when the price of the 8 GB modules will go down?

Thank you in advance for help you.

    Hello

According to maintenance manual you cannot improve it...

    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/CoreRedirect.jsp?redirectReason=DocIndexPDF&prodSeriesId=5046257&targetPage=http%3A%2F%2Fbizsupport2.austin.hp.com%2Fbc%2Fdocs%2Fsupport%2FSupportManual%2Fc02770249%2Fc02770249.pdf

The i5 - 480 M is the best you can get. I would not be at level in any case. I5 - 580 M is a bit faster with the mode and offers more features than the i5 - 480 M, but generally it's the same CPU at 2.66 Ghz. I don't think it's a good idea to buy a new or even used i5 - 580 M and get only 0.4 Ghz with the mode...

8GB is the maximum that you can get at the moment. HM55 chipset supports no more than 8 GB of RAM.

    Hello

I'm sorry, but you cannot use the Core i5 - 2540M. You must use the processor Core i5 - 480 M. Some laptops series G6 such as ones of G6-1200 use chips from the second generation, so the manual you have is a general for all laptops to G6. The first generation Intel processors use a different socket than the second. A possible compatibility for Intel processors is when you have an Ivy Bridge chipset third generation) and you can use a Sandy Bridge CPU (2nd generation)...

  • Issue of upgrade CPU laptop (Compaq Presario)

    Hello

Can someone please confirm that my Compaq Presario B1223TU, who has a processor Intel T5250 CPU can be upgraded to the Intel T9500 (Penryn) 2.6 GHhz.

I already installed the latest version of BIOS 68MSU f.0Une on my computer.

After checking the site Web of Compaq to my computer here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-57986-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&...

In the correction and improvement of article he States: "adds support for new Intel processors.

What exactly are these new Intel processors because it is not clear? It's the BIOS version 68MSU ROM. F05

I guess that means it supports the new Penryn T9500, T8100, T8300 and T9300 processor, but I'm not sure.

I also found this site selling retail who says that it is supported as well for my particular laptop but it does not include the Intel T9500: http://www.ambry.com/page/modelnu/GS111PA/463050-001.html

Can someone please confirm that the T9500 is a possible upgrade for me. Thank you.

Should I stay with the 25 watt tdp or I could safley go 35?

Upgrade to a stalk 2 520 2.3 ghz would be boost for some games?

or the n620 2.8 ghz phenom.

Are there upgrades that can be made with the cpu that would give a performance advantage?

You wanted to get expert advice on this before I dive.

I looked through the owners manual and it very confusuing ads other cpu but don't say not to if I can use it in mine.

the v120 processor is used for rev 1.0 only if im deduced that it is what I have. also the ram I have is 1066 so am I limited to 1066 for cpu too... seems logical. It also has a tdp of 25 should i stay with a 25 or can I go 35? There are some CPUs which are not rev limit so that means that I can use it. I called hp support and they said that it is impossible to upgrade and said that it was welded on. well, that's a lie! Seems the hp support does not know its own products and just wants me to buy a new computer. I would go to a duel cpu and I was wondering if the 2 520 stalk would be a good choice. Any input would be appreciated greatley! Thank you.

    Hello:

Here is the link to the service manual for your laptop. Chapter 1 lists the supported processors.

    http://h10032.www1.HP.com/CTG/manual/c02948186.PDF

Processor Intel Core i3 2310M is not supported, but the 2330 m.

The Celeron processor you have runs on the chipset Mobile Intel 6 series as either i3.

    http://Ark.Intel.com/products/59570/Intel-Celeron-processor-B800-2m-cache-1_50-GHz

By the book, I must tell you that it won't work.

So, you can try to install at your own risk. It may work correctly, or it may not work at all.

It all depends on if the BIOS has the microcode for the i3-2310 and other firmware supported processor.

  • Can I upgrade the CPU on my old Satellite M60

Hello I would like to know if it is possible to upgrade the processor to my old m60
and, if possible, which would be compatible CPU model?

    Thank you

    Hello

I doubt that you will be able to upgrade the processor.
    Upgrading CPU is delicate.
First of all, you should check what CPU's are supported by the chipset.
Secondly, the BIOS is not tested and designed for other processors and so this can be a big problem.
In the worst cases the CPU is not supported by the BIOS and the laptop will not turn on.

Last but not least a faster processor would generate more heat which would lead to a higher temperature and plant s notebook

As you can see the CPU upgrade it discouraged and in most cases is not possible

  • Qosmio F10-124: can I upgrade my CPU a faster chip?

Can someone tell me if I can improve my CPU to a faster chip, I have the 1.6Ghz CPU in the moment, but I don't know if this is a plug in type or if it is soldered on the motherboard.

I called Toshiba and they were asked, but until I'm practically the question out, he said no, can anyone help?.

    Thank you very much, Pete.

    Hello

Generally it is not possible to upgrade the CPU because of several reasons.
But as far as I know that different Qosmio F20 models were shipped with these processors:
    Intel Pentium - M 1.60/1.73/1.86/2.00/2.13GHz
    Intel Celeron - M 1.40/1.50GHz

  • Can I upgrade the CPU T2310 Satellite Pro L40 - 15A series laptop PC?

Hi, (I apologize if this has been asked before, but when I search 'Satellite pro l40 series' I couldn't find any relevant response)

I've been looking around the net & found contradictory answers to this question so far, so I hope that this forum may be able to help.

I have a 15 D portable computer Satellite pro L40 and I want to upgrade the processor Intel Pentium Dual-Core 1.46 Ghz T2310 an Intel Pentium Dual-Core T4300 2.1 GHz 1 MB 800 CPU or something similar.

I found the following issues http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Toshiba-Satellite-L40-14N-Notebook.7294.0.html

"f consider you a CPU upgrade, there is not a lot of options." The Intel GL960 value express notebook chip supports only up to FSB 533 Mhz processors. So, does not allow most of the Core 2 Duo CPU update (with 667 MHz). "

But then, I also read that the GL960 can run 800 MHz processors?

I also asked the question on ebay to the seller of the CPU T2310 & received this response

«SHOULD be OK, but your T2310 533 Mhz FSB and the T4300 has 800 Mhz.»

Motherboards intel more modern should easily accept a 800 mhz cpu, but I cannot guarantee. May be an idea to see if you can find out if there are other models of Toshiba L40, also with 800 mhz chip, because it would be a good indicator.

And if I can't pass a T2310 because of the 800 mhz too is their a 533 mhz cpu that will be compatible & more powerful for audio production that my current Ghz CPU T2310 1.46.

I've only had this PC 4 years again, it seems not to be very mobile friendly if this resource could not be designed to handle upgrades.

    Thanks for the tips.

Problem is that upgrading the CPU is not taken in charge and everything you do is at your own risk.
