HP dv6000 hard drive update

Hello

I have a HP Pavilion dv6000. the machine is about 2 years. the hard drive (150 gig) develop some bad sectors and it seems the right way to replace it. So the following questions:

1. can I replace it myself or should I send to HP?

2. What can I upgrade to?

3 is it advisable to upgrade the ram (1 GB) as well?

Thank you

Jaco

Depending on the exact model, it peaks at 2 or 4 GB. The upgrade from 2 to 4 concerts only makes sense in my opinion if you want to use 64-bit Windows. Otherwise, even with 4 gigs installed, the computer can not use more than 3 gigs.

7200 TPM have caused problems with the old part of the dv6000 series; models with numbers dv6499 and less. That also tends to be the line of demarcation between the units of max to 2 GB and maxing out at 4.

Bought the new 250 GB hard drive, but with it cant start System. The version of the BIOS is 1.80 I have to update so that it will support 250 GB? I think that's the problem because when I remove the hard drive from the system can start. Can you post the link to the download for a newer version of the BIOS if there is a previous hard drive was 40 GB?

    Thank you

    Hi andmk,

I doubt that your computer will start if you remove the HARD drive. If no HARD disk is installed the computer is not able to boot and start Windows because the disk HARD, the operating system is installed.

In any case, what exactly happens if you install the new HARD drive?
    Is it recognised in BIOS?
Can you do a recovery on the new HARD drive installation?

  • HP Pavilion dv6000 Hard Drive Upgrade

    Hello

I have a HP Pavilion dv6000 (Entertainment PC), it says on the box of dv6187ea (Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 2 Ghz).

It's the hard drive died for the second time, I need to replace it and I don't know if this laptop can take sata3. I am now looking to a few Mobile WD2500BEKX black WD 250 GB, SATA3 7200 RPM, 16 MB of Cache and the other has the same features except that it is SATA2.

So first of all I would like to know if I can indeed use a sata3 or I am limited to sata2, and then what would you recommend as for 7200 rpm from 5400.

Prices are all Similarly, in reality the 7200 RPM are cheaper, my need is representation only, the battery was almost dead since I bought it (all laptops suffer from it) so I always TI plugged running the kde desktop + many services, I want to say he works a lot.

Thanks in advance, if I missed some information just make me know.

    Hello

As mentioned above, you can use SATA III because it is backward compatible, just pay a little more. In short: you can use the two 3 SATA or SATA 2.

    Kind regards.

  • Split x 2 m121sa - SATA hard drive update

I have recently bought a split 2 x m121sa and want to update the hard drive in the keyboard (currently 500 GB) and I have a few questions:

I found this http://amzn.to/1mQVMcd going to work?

Is there any special size, I need to get other than 2.5 "sata?

Is there a maximum size in GB I need to, I want to use this hard drive 1 TB in there

    Thank you

    Elliot

    Here is the Service Manual:

    Manual

See Page 34. You just make sure that the disc is one of the ultra-thin (7 mm 9.5 mm thickness) models. Any player capacity of this physical size works perfectly. There is no limit on the capacity of the disc, only the thickness. If you put a 9.5 mm in there you will not be able to trace the base unit.

The Toshiba model on amazon.com which you connected is a 9.5 mm.

    I couldn't find a 7mm 1 TB drive, but here's a concert of 750:

I have not spent a lot of time to research so I'm not sure that a 1 TB 7mm drive is there or not.

  • Dv6000 - hard drive error #10009

    Hello world

I already read something on this issue, but I write a new topic because I am in the worst trouble - the problem is related to the laptop, which I did not myself, it's computer of my father who is 1500km

She was leaving that he told me that he had some problems with his HP Pavilion dv6000 - many banners, pop-ups and ads were view all the time on the screen, so I connected with him via TeamViewer and installed S & D of Spybot and AdAware free and turned on the scans. There are a few problems, so I chose to delete. After that, my father restarted the laptop and surprisingly, he got only a black screen and the message: "press ctrl + alt + del to restart." I told her to support, I guess F2 or F12 and turn on the hard drive test - he ended with the result of "#10009 - replace the hard drive.

What could be the cause of this, and why it occur after the use of anty-malware software? I read that it is a boot sector problem. But now, how to deal with this? It doesn't have DVD Win7 and same Win7 on USB. Can how far I do to help him?

I couldn't tell you what HARD drive is installed without the specific part number or model number (not the series). Except if it is longer than 5 years is certainly the SATA.

The HARD drive is bad, the test said. Also, you can not really in shape for him. He will need to install the HARD drive and drag the HP recovery media or the Windows installation disk to install the software.

    Hello

The laptop uses a simple 2.5 SATA HDD.
It's not really important what the speed of the HARD drive is supported, but I recommend to use the 5400 RPM or faster 7200 RPM HARD drive

Generally all HARD drive size should be compatible because the SATA controller has no limitations.

    Hello

Are you sure that the HARD drive is recognized correctly in the BIOS?
Seems that the laptop does not support the new drive (100 GB, 7200 RPM).

Perhaps because of the large size of HARD drive and the fast rotation value.
I would try to use a 60GB 5400 RPM a 80 GB HARD drive maybe works but it seems that the 100 GB HARD drive is not compatible

  • Satellite A300-1J1 - 320 GB HARD drive update

This model I have has a hard drive of 250 GB installed, could I pull it out and say put a hard drive of 320 place. Thanks for your help.

Yes, it might be possible to use a bigger HDD as a 320 GB HARD drive.
The laptop supports a SATA controller so it shouldn't t be a problem!

  • Satellite P750 new hard drive: update limits

The hard drive on my P750 is dying. It's a Toshiba 2.5 ", 750 GB, 5400 RPM drive.

Is there mother (or other) card compatibility problems asking exactly the same car, or can I replace it with a larger (1 TB or 1.5 TB) drive?

Am I limited to hard drives Toshiba or can I replace it with another brand.

The laptop is out of warranty.

    Hi da1

The SATA controller is not limited to a specific size, I think you could use a 1 TB 2.5 HDD. Should be recognized without big problems.

Let me know after replacing HARD drive.

    Hi @Chris_8318,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A place where you can find solutions for your problems with the help of the community!

I stumbled upon your post on the laptop and wanted to help you! I looked in your question about your HP Pavilion dv6500 Entertainment of CTO Notebook and concerns with the installation of a hard drive again. If you keep the new larger than your original SSD and it supports Sata 5400 RPM 9.5 mm, 2.5-inch hard drives, you'll have no problems.

Here is a link to your manual page 23 for specifications.

Please let me know how it goes.

    Thank you.

  • DV9000 hard drive update

I have a DV9000 with two 120 gig drives. I am trying to replace the disc 2 with an upgrade of 320 gig.

  • How can I delete the files from hard drive update?

Whenever I download some updates of drivers and programs to my PC via the HP Support Assistant, the program downloads firmware like spXXXXX and then decompresses them in C:\SWSetup folder in order to install them. Now, I see that this folder is not empty and is about 8 GB and probably the update packages are stored somewhere else, and I have room in my drive, so the question is: is it safe to delete the contents of this folder or the files are always stored in a purpose? Is there a way I can clean these files after you install the updates?

Yes, they are created in a temporary folder and then gets deleted after installation.
