HP ENVY 15-J104EL upgrade

Hi all
I would like to do a upgrade for my laptop: HP ENVY 15-j104el with Windows 8.1
I would like to know if you can add a SSD 2.5 "and change the HARD disk with a 7,200 RPM."
Also, I would like to know what kind of graphics card NVIDIA GTX I can replace.
I read that the GT740M has 45W TDP and that the main problem in general are the different position of the heat sinks that make graphics cards 'inconsistent' or excessive graphics card PDT you choose to enter.

Hello

Yes, you can use a 7,200 RPM HDD or Exchange for one SSD drive. This laptop also supports discs mSATA solid, so it is possible to use instead of the main drives 2.5 "or with some effort as the boot disks and the disk 2.5" as a storage device. However, there is no way how to update the graphics card because it is soldered to the motherboard.

  • Envy 15-j104el: updated NETWORK WiFi card and RAM update

    Goodmorning to everyone

I write this post to ask for information on the possibility to do an upgrade of hardware on my HP Envy 15-j104elsystem.

    That's what I would do:

-Replace the network card (NIC) to a wireless better and possibly with a compatible AC NIC.

-Update to 16 GB of ram, put benches with CL9 SODIMM

The questions that I want to bring to your attention are:

-There is a 'white list' for the wifi card on my BIOS (actually F66)?
(consultation with the service manual there are little NIC OEM selled, y at - it ONLY compatible?)

-Put the sticks of ram CL9 (instead of CL11 currently OEM mounted), I can inprove the overall performance?

    I want to install are:

    -Intel Wireless-AC 7260 more Bluethoot HMC 4.0

    -Kingston HyperX Impact DDR3L 16 GB (2x8gb) SODIMM 1600 Mhz CL9 (Kit)

According to your experiences, is it compatible? I can buy them without any problem?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me. Thanks for your suggestions

In particular, I take this opportunity to greet and also need the help of my friend @visruth ;)

    1. no whitelist. Your laptop was conducted after HP stopped using a white list so that you can install any card with the right form factor and the number of antennas. The Intel 7260 card should work.

    2. you can install the CL9 memory but it will not do anything all run faster. The motherboard is made to operate at the speed of the OEM memory so the Kingston Hyper-X will work, but the specifications of it in operation will be the same as memory OEM.

  • HP Envy 13-d001no: upgrade SSD on a new HP Envy 13 m2

    Hello!

I just got my HP Envy 13-d001no. As I expected I really enjoy them until now, but I am interested the upgrade to a faster SSD with more storage on this subject. I'm looking at two different drives, namely the Samsung 850 EVO m2 and the Samsung PRO 950 m2. Both drives are m2 (2280) form factor, but they differ in that the EVO 850 uses a SATA 6.0 Gbit/s-interface while the PRO 950 has a PCIe interface.

I am not fully aware of the differences between these interfaces. I know that PCIe allows faster speeds, but they are both compatible with the new HP Envy 13? I find anywhere which interface is the exact shape of the SSD factor currently installed and I don't want to take the risk of buying a new drive only for him is not to adapt or not to work on the laptop.

According to the HP ENVY laptop (model numbers used: 13-d000 through 13-d099)-Maintenance and Service Guide of, this model supports the following:

    SSD drive
    Serial ATA M2 storage
Support for the following SSD drive configurations:
512 MB M2, SATA-3, support triple cell level (TLC)
    256 MB M2, SATA-3, support the TLC
    128 MB, M2, SATA-3, support the TLC
    128 MB, M2.2280, SATA-3

On this basis, it would seem that the Samsung 850 EVO m2 is the correct upgrade for your computer.

  • HP envy 14k011tu: to upgrade graphics card

My laptop is Hp Envy 14k011tu. It has a graphics 4400u graphics card intel which is quite bad for the games. I wanted to upgrade. Then someone can suggest som egud graphics cards under $ 100.

    Concerning

    Mehul_Mishra

Sorry, but you operate in a misunderstanding.  Your PC is a laptop computer and, unlike desktop computers, it uses no graphics "cards".

Instead, it uses graphics 'modules' - and what makes these different, is that they involve the graphics chip is soldered to the system board.  This means that you will need to disassemble the entire PC to replace the motherboard just to change the graphics chip.

This would have to do to an HP Service Center - which means that it will cost you easily several hundred dollars, maybe more replacement laptop in its entirety!

    Hello.

I hope there, can someone help me!

  • Want to 13d061sa: the HP Envy 13d061sa SSD upgrade

I have a HP Envy 13d061sa, laptop 13.3 inch with 256 GB SSD drive. I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade to 1 TB drive. Also is it extensible owner?

    Thank you

It is not a replaceable part by the user, so no, not owner replaceable, unless the owner didn't mind accepting complete responsibility for the damage done to the laptop.

Ensure that you buy the right type of SSD for your notebook. I would say a 512 GB is probably a bertter option.

A video at the following library shows how to replace the SSD.

  • HP Envy x 360: upgrade Windows 10 - date license expiration

    Hello

I'm anticipating the upgrade to Windows 10 on my Hp Envy x 360, but I hesitate. The current license for Windows 8.1 does not expire over time, but Microsoft says that Windows 10 is only free for the first year.

Could someone give some sort of guarantee that I won't have to pay for Windows 10 next year? Otherwise, I would feel really ripped off the coast.

    Thank you

    Alex

I just wanted to add some more info to this. What follows is the issues of Windows 10 which can be found here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-10-faq

    The upgrade is really free?

Yes, it's free. It is a full version of Windows, not a trial version or initiation. It is available for a limited time: you have one year from the time 10 Windows is available to take advantage of this offer.

Can I reinstall Windows 10 on my computer after the upgrade?

Yes. Once you have upgraded to Windows 10 using the free upgrade offer, you will be able to reinstall, including a clean install on the same device. You will not need to buy Windows 10 or return to your previous version of Windows and upgrade again.

You will also be able to create your own like a Flash DRIVE or a DVD installation media and use it to update your device and reinstall once you have upgraded.

  • Envy 15 t: upgrade memory and hard drive HP ENVY 15t

Hi guys, I just bought the HP Envy 15 not touch t (ae100) with the following characteristics:

-CPU & graphics: 6th generation Intel Core i7-6700HQ Quad Core processor + Intel HD Graphics 530

    -Memory: 8 GB DDR3L - 1 DIMM

-Hard drive: 1 TB 5400 RPM hard drive

I have a few questions about it. First of all, my laptop doesn't have a vacant unit of m2 where I can insert an SSD and if not a SATA 3 2.5-inch SSD fits instead of the hard disk without additional fixing or need support.

Second, is there an empty memory slot to insert a 8 GB of additional ram.

Any kind of assistance will be extremely useful and thanks in advance.

No crack m2. From the Manual:

Only dedicated support of storage SATA m2 (Port 0) (models with i7 processors and 4 GB memory graphics)

So if you have Intel HD video only you do not have a slot m2.

Here's the manual for your use:

    Repair manuals

Yes on the memory 8 GB 2d module:

Both not accessible/upgradable module DDR3L-1600 slots double channel memory support 16 GB of RAM in the following conƭgurations ● 16384-Mo (8192 MB × 2)

Access to the memory and hard drive are obtained by removing the lower cover. Technically this is not allowed to the end user if security is jeopardized.

A standard 2.5 inch SATA SSD to integrate perfectly in the original hardware for hard disk 5400 RPM. It is a highly recommended update. The 16 GB of RAM not so much, but it's one of those things "might as well" If you are determined to go there.

  • New model: HP Envy 15 t Upgrade HD SSD or mSATA SSD?

    Hi all

I read several threads on the upgrade of the disk for SSD and it seems that everyone else has managed to do.  My question is, is there an advantage to upgrade to an SSD HARD drive or simply add in mSATA SSD?  I currently have a network drive that contains most of my data such as music, photos and videos, so I don't think that I need more capacity on my hard drive.  That being said, I had planned on buying an SSD of 256 / 240GB, it's just a question of which one get? a regular SSD or mSATA SSD?  Thoughts?  Comments?  Concerns?

    Mike Lee

on a side note: I envy 15 new t... I really wish that they would have changed the name of the template to something completely different because the prefix is the same as their old model... stupid...

Get a 2.5 inch SATA SSD ordinary. Very slightly slower than a WSSD but still much faster than anything else. Try to configure the WSSD as boot drive is a huge problem.

  • HP envy 17-J173CA UPGRADES

Hi, I have a hp envy 17-J173CA with an i7 2.4 screen 17', ge force gt740m 2 GB, 12 GB ram, 1 TB hd, refurb.
I couldn't find the manual on the net and is entered in the box.

So, I want to know the improvements that it allows to better understand, hard drive? graphics card? memory? How does it work?
Especially since it allows a graphics card upgrade, I had read that the more portable have the soldered graphics card in the motherboard. If this is the case of my own, I change the motherboard with the graphics card to upgrade? How does it work?

    Thank you!

Yes, memory can be improved to 16 concerts to throw the 4 GB memory module and its replacement by a second 8 GB module. It's the DDR3L-1600 (memory low voltage).

    http://www.crucial.com/USA/en/ct102464bf160b

You already have a hybrid 1 TB drive and there is not much, you might install which would be an upgrade, that, except maybe an SSD. You do not have 2 hard drive bays and you can add another hard drive with the appropriate cable caddy found here:

    http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?Main_Page=product_info&cPath=2_5&products_id=542

Pages 42 and 43 of the manual have the hard drive and memory installation instructions. And then there is this video:

    https://www.YouTube.com/watch?v=wx3dMGXrGCc

Other updates are not really profitable, but the motherboard and processor could be replaced, giving you a stronger video. However, the gain would be very low and the enormous cost.
