HP Envy 17-j150ca: hardware HP Envy upgrade

Hello world

I had my HP Envy 17-j150ca for nearly two years not and as it has its problems, I love this laptop. Recently, he has worked much more slow and is has become a little too outdated to run newer programs. I suspect it is a problem with the hard drive and am looking for this purpose to be replaced by a new SSD to try to extend the life of my laptop. However, I am also curious to see the upgrade of some of the other equipment. I saw on the forum a lot of users have gotten responses mixed on the subject of their motherboards with a new replacement. My warranty has been flat for almost a year even after HP corrected the defect of fatal design of this laptop (vibration at the base of the opening and closing) so I am quite concerned about the warranty on my machine. Can replace components but if all else fails I'll just use it to replace the entire machine, so the loss of my laptop is not a problem. I have backups and CD installation for my OS as well so it's not a question.

I understand that I may very well not had the answer I'd like to hear about it, but if anyone has information on how I could keep my laptop to update it would be much appreciated. I thank in advance for any answer, you can have for me.

See you soon.

Here is the Service Manual:

Manual

The motherboard is socketed and you could upgrade the processor to an i7-4900MQ, which would be updated niveau.4 ghz.

You have the video of 740M from nVidia, and there is a motherboard that has video of 750M. You can install an SSD and a hard drive because it has 2 bays. Memory can be improved to 16 gigs. The top configuration with the best video processor and RAM and max and a main drive of SSD would still be quite formidable. However, the cost of obtaining it is roughly the same as a new equivalent laptop. And the most recent Skylake platform machines are something that you would have to try.

Hard to call something with a 4th gen i7-4900MQ obsolete but I'm afraid that economy of the upgrade compared to new in this case is not favourable to the upgrade.

I would like to know what that need updated on my laptop with Windows 8.1 before moving on to Windows 10 latest drivers.

I have the latest drivers Intel HD 4000.

I was not able to install HP Support Assistant for the past year (error message)

    @BrianH15,

Hello and thanks for the display on the HP support forums.  The only compatible drivers for your system will be located on the HP support page.

ENVY of HP dv7-7240us Notebook PC drivers.

You will find there only drivers in charge.  Drivers for windows 8.1 are not included for this system and they are the ones that are used for windows 10.  Try the upgrade but I would stick to the original operating system until the and only if drivers are available for 8.1.

    I hope this helps.

Thanks again for posting and have a great day.

  • Satellite P755: Hardware buttons after upgrading Win10

    Hello

I did an upgrade of my P755-PSAY3E for Windows 10 today and has clean - install later. After that, I installed this Toshiba in relation to the Toshiba Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant tool. Win10 is now running well so far, but I have problems to get the hardware buttons between the keyboard and screen work (eco-utility, WiFi, Volume) backlight. The Fn keys work correctly.

Can someone tell me please which driver package (s) is responsible for these buttons? Wouldn't be value added package? VAP is installed, can't find anything that helps. Good idea to try Windows 7 drivers?

    Thanks and best wishes,
    Alex

    Hi Alex...

I managed to have some buttons work on my P855, installation of Flash Cards support utility for win 8.1 (64):

There are several versions (win 7, win 8.1, etc.).

Some buttons are mixed upward, but still better than nothing.

    Hi all

I was wondering, I own a Satellite c855-s5133 and I want to upgrade my hardware to make it faster and more compatible with the new games and programs.

So the question is which is compatible with the model and what can I do to make my computer bettter.

P.s. I've already updated the 16 GB ram, and I really don't like if I'm more do.

    Thank you
    DOCTORMAN

    Hello

To be honest, you are very limited if it comes to upgrade the hardware of s for laptop.
You have already upgraded the RAM. That s OK.

You could also switch from the HDD to the SSD. This performance of the laptop from the read and write process would be much faster. Also the laptop would be faster start and would go a lot smoother.

But to be honest, for purposes of such game pass isn't very useful.

To get better game performance, you need a better graphics card, but the fact is that the GPU upgrade isn't possible.

  • Migration of VMS of vsphere 5.0 and 5.5. The virtual computer hardware should be upgraded?

We have a few virtual machines to a roommate with a newer version of vsphere. Are there benefits to upgrading in addition what is listed in the link below? We have really no need for the maximum ram or cpu upgrades. I thought that now version 8 virtual machines should be fine, unless there is a major performance improvement or other reason to upgrade to 10.

Hardware features available with the Virtual Machine compatibility settings

You are on point with your comments. There is no need to upgrade to version 10, you if you don't need. This is why VMware is now calling VM Compatibility virtual rather than physical level. This is to remove the pressure of always trying to follow with the virtual hardware.

By experience, I find the upgrade virtual hardware, one of the scariest parts of any upgrade project. Ive met a lot question after her that is why it is always recommended to create a snapshot prior to an update of the virtual hardware. Its the only way to restore.

  • Compatibility of hardware/VM virtual upgrade questions

    Hi all

We are about to upgrade the virtual hardware (VM compatibility) on 800 virtual machines from 7 to 9 on our environment vSphere 5.1. I read about the problems with the hidden network adapters when the card is moved to another location on the virtual PCI bus during the upgrade. I tested the upgrade virtual hardware with multiple virtual machines, but none of them showed this behavior.

I know not how to solve the problem, but now I'm looking for real-world experiences.

    1. What percentage will I fail?
    2. Are there useful tips, tools or scripts to facilitate the research process and fixing VMs failed?
    3. What is initially a map to move to a position about the virtual PCI bus (I can "predict" which VMs will have a network card hidden, for example a combination of a specific operating system and certain type of pci device)?

    Kind regards

    Alfredj.

Last week, we upgraded the virtual equipment of hardware form 500 VMs 7 to 9 (vmx-09) version. Overall, it went well, with the exception of some Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 servers. We experienced a problem that is described in an article named "Windows 2003 virtual machine loses access to the locally stored profile after upgrading the hardware version (2009762)":

"After the upgrade to a virtual machine to Windows 2003 to version 8 material, you may encounter these problems:

    • You will lose access to locally stored profile.
    • Trying to connect will fail with the error:
    • Windows cannot find the locally stored profile: insufficient security rights or a local file damaged. Windows has connected you with a temporary profile any setting you make will not be saved. »

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalID=2009762

Power down the virtual machine and affecting the video card 4 MB memory in 'Change settings' VM has solved the problem for all virtual machines (see article).

Thank you all for contributing to this topic.

    Kind regards
