HP Envy 4 1050ca Installation of Ubuntu Linux 12.1

My urge 4 works celebrates. I tried to install Ubuntu 12.1 using windows install Ubuntu. The installation went very well, it seemed, but when the laptop rebooted and I chose Ubuntu in the start menu of Windows OS, it crashed. It seems that the Ubuntu Installer cannot see the drive 500Gbyte. I have read several posts with different solutions, including modifying the bios. I don't want to disrupt functionality of recovery on the 4 of envy, is there a simple method to allow a linux install?

I would recommend this post on a forum of Ubuntu, because most of the people on these forums do not have experience with this OS and the fact that HP does not support this OS. You would have better luck find a solution by asking around here.

I've just updated Ubuntu Linux 9.04, and when I start the VM in VM Ware Fusion on my MacBook Pro I get a message saying that VMware Tools are not installed. • no player under Linux Ubuntu - ENVY 14 1050ca SD cards

    Hello world!!

Got this HP (envy 14 1050ca) a few months ago. Apart from the difficulties to install linux due to raid configuratios (I've posted about this before, finally, I got on top of it) the computer works very well under the new OS and now I can run Win + linux. The only thing is that so far he does not my SD card reader when I'm working with my partition linux... and also he does not SD cards when it is plugged into a USB card reader, which makes me think it's not a problem on the (i.e. the missing driver) SD card reader but some inability to recognize what kind of devices without distinction of the port their plugged in. Any ideas on how to make this work?

    Thank you!!

Then it turns out that the problem was a built-in card reader is SD,.

  • Ubuntu linux driver installation for Nvidia 950 M on Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720

    Hello

I bought a Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720 Ubuntu version because I like Ubuntu linux more than Windows.

I can't find the linux drivers that will allow my Nvidia GT 950 M graphics so, basically, the card useless and no power management.
There is absolutely nothing for Ubuntu Linux on your drivers page.

I have updated to the latest BIOS A03.

The laptop's Ubuntu Logo sticker on it next to the Intel i7 so I thought it is totally compatible.

    Please advise,

    Thank you

    Andrei

Optimus system and at the present time, it is not properly supported under Linux, there is work in progress for him, but for a workaround, see Bumblebee project: wiki.ubuntu.com/Bumblebee

Description a little longer: you have two graphics - integrated (Intel) and discreet (Nvidia). Optimus systems are designed with the intention to use the GPU integrated tasks that requires no graphic heavy treatment (most of the day-to-day activities) and the use of the discrete GPU for applications requiring more powerful GPU. Integrated card is less eager for power and voltage GPU discreet when not in service allows cooler use.

Normally you use integrated card and there is no way to use the card nvidia directly if the BIOS does not switch to it. Help Optimus allows to use the Nvidia card for rendering and power down to save power when not in use. It has not been official for Optimus of Nvidia Linux support. Bumblebee is a community created project attempting to address the issue, but it is really only a workaround until the solution has been created. FIRST is such a solution, but at present it is still experimental and is not in any version of Ubuntu, more it is officially supported only in the open drivers source (new), Nvidia has not yet validated supporting in their binary driver.

I agree that Dell support for bids Linux pages are sorely lacking, in fact I was not able to locate a page describing their Linux pre-installs. Ubuntu certification pages are not really informative on Dell changes and upgrade policy.

  • I get an error when you start the process of windows 7 installation on ubuntu 9.04

I'm on ubuntu 9.04 and I do not so I wanted to install windows 7 on it, but after clicking on install on Windows 7, the installation of a temporary file stops after 10 seconds with an error message:
"Windows is unable to find a place to store temporary installation files. To install windows ensure that a partition on your startup disk has at least 685 MB of free space.   Error code 0 x 80070490

Please help me and am using ubuntu 9.04

You will need to repartition your hard disk, so that Windows does not recognize the file system that Ubuntu Linux uses by default (which is ext3). You can do within Ubuntu Linux using several different tools, or if you are more interested in the use of Ubuntu Linux you can repartition the disk in the installation of Windows.

  • How do I restart Ubuntu (Linux), if it is mounted

I use VMWare Fusion version 1.1 to run windows on my Macbook Pro to Apple, with OSX Leopard (10.5.6).  It works well, however I tried to install the OS to Ubuntu (Linux) version 6.10 recently.

At the end of the installation process a dialog box titled "Installation" arises with two radio buttons ("Continue using the live CD" and "Restart now").  I tried to click on the button "Restart now" and got no response.  The virtual machine is now suspended and the "Send Ctrl - Alt - Del" command has no effect.

Stop the virtual machine has also no effect because at startup, it restores the last State of the saved machine.

Any assistance in this regard would be appreciated.

VMware Fusion (menu bar) > help > VMware Fusion help > running VMware Fusion and Virtual Machines > Options for VMware Fusion food orders

VMware Fusion (menu bar) > help > VMware Fusion help > running VMware Fusion and Virtual Machines > orders of switching power supply from the default Options

    ==========

Note: It's like pulling the plug of the wall on a physical computer. Whatever this is not saved will be lost and there is always the possibility of corrupting the file system where preforming a hard stop! (Even if you have no choice but to do.)

VMware Fusion menu bar > VM > press the option key and select Power Off

By pressing the keys alt/option "Shutdown called" changes to "Power Off".

Note: It also changes orders of "Suspend comments" and "Restart Guest' too.

Or if this does not work then...

On the library Virtual Machine ctrl - click on the target of the Virtual Machine and select Show in Finder and delete the .vmss file, the ctrl + click the target package of Virtual Machine, and then after the merger closed. Note: All that was not justified for the suspended state will be lost by deleting the .vmss file. Note: But you will have no other choice is the Virtual Machine will not suspend/resume/stop/start correctly.

I don't really want to install windows just to upgrade the bios. I even tried to use a live cd in WinXP, but it did not work :(

No, as far as I know the BIOS on the European Toshiba driver page is based win if you need the Windows system to get the BIOS flashed.

  • Re-install XP on a Netbook after the installation of Ubuntu...

    Hello

I recently bought a netbook (Asus EEE PC) and installed Ubuntu (linux) - but I would like to go back to XP. I have a valid (from another computer) XP disc as well as the XP serial number given with my netbook. My netbook does not have a hard drive, however.

How can I go about it?

    Thanks :)

Your problem is that you have a SATA hard drive.  SATA drives did not exist when Windows XP was created and that therefore there is no SATA drivers on the install media.  The official Windows is to press "F6" key at the moment he flashes a message to load external drivers, but then you will find the driver * must be loaded from a floppy drive (which nobody can be more). ...

don't forget to install VMware Tools on Linux, you will need the linux-headers for the installed kernel package

first of all, make sure to select the option to install VMware Tools (in this way the VMware Tools iso will be mapped in the virtual machine)

    the command-line command (as root):

    mount/dev/cdrom/mnt/cdrom

    CD/tmp

    tar zxf/mnt/cdrom/VMwareTools - xversion - < xxxx >. tar.gz

    umount/dev/cdrom

    CD vmware-tools-distrib

    ./VMware-install.pl
